That is weak as shit. Good rundown, you cow punching maniac. Sounds like they tried to make a TV version of Gotham Central but went with a shitty Smallville angle. Very strong, uh, retardation Edit: also, I defend Ben McKenzie because he was really good in that cop show. Southland? This'll be another example that an actor is only as good as their director/producers.

New missions and the back area of The Tower opened up for the Queen's Emissary event (apparently.) Might not be on right now but I think it is as the blog post I saw about it was from a random layman blogger (not someone with exclusive access). New level 24 missions which will bag you Awoken Queen-specific gear. And some new bounties. Not bad! I still want more combat areas, but this is great. Edit: Kotaku's review of Destiny totally killed it and I still love Kirk Hamilton. Such a good writer.

£35 for it seems a little steep, but the second hand £20-25 seems sound. Btw – I don't buy boardgames enough to know offhand – but do they depreciate in value like video games? Ie does getting a boardgame a year or two after release knock a tenner off the price? I'd be all over Assassin's Creed Arena if it cost £15.

What's your preferred death disincentive in a game?
SomTervo replied to Cinder's topic in General Gaming Chat
Very, very nice topic. I personally like the idea of Time Advancement. It looks like Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is gonna nail it with this mechanic. When you die, game-time advances a several days' worth while you are being 'reborn'. During these days, the orcs who are your targets will defeat other orc clans, get stronger, kill each other off, gain new immunities and abilities and kit, and just generally become tougher. The whole tribal-political landscape may change, leaving you with a drastically new set of objectives after death. So basically the game will procedurally/systemically get tougher every time you die. No Darks Souls-style contrived difficulty increase, just the enemies actually learning better stuff. So much potential. I'm also disappointed games like GTA don't use this. GTA already advances time 6-12 hours if you get "killed", so why not implement a Dead Rising style mission system where a mission's "ideal time" runs out after a few days, and dying will change how the mission develops, perhaps making it more difficult? (Rather than Dead Rising's "oh you missed the mission start time limit by 5 seconds? TOUGH LUCK BOZO") EDIT: Cinder, I just noticed you mentioned this! But as well as the enemies being rewarded, as you said, time also advances. Which is awesome. (Chances are in the old-gen versions, there will just be the reward- they have a stripped-back Nemesis system.) I totally agree with this - my problem is that most games which give you such an "Iron Man" option don't let you save your progress at all. I wish more games would let you save, but automatically delete the slot when you die. That would be so amazing and not enough games do it. Perfect example: Dead Space 2-3 or Max Payne 3. Both have difficulty modes where you only have one life. But quitting also counts as dying- it doesn't save your progress at all. You can't really take your time- it feels like the game is forcing you to do a speedrum, which is what the mode is really for. -
Saw Guardians of the Galaxy last night. "This but this" review: Star Wars on crack. The narrative isn't amazing, but gee golly jeepers is it a lot of fun. Chris Pratt's brilliant comic pacing and delivery, as usual... Delivers. I liked a lot of the little cameos. I think the narrative was a bit flawed because it was almost too close to being a comic. Not-that-spoilery example: It's literally the only real complaint I have about the film and I think I forgive it because it's so true to comics' roots.

I haven't even tried it yet but I had a friend who's a skeptic. At first he was like "it's okay" over chat, but within an hour he was like "this is totes great." I actually played it at Eurogamer, so I know what it's all about. Seems okay. SportsFriends MMXIV is actually amazing though. Especially with 2-4 friends.

CoD Ghosts Dog eat your fucking heart out. I goddamn love all dogs but seriously, I would throw tons of money at an illegal backyard dog fight between DD and the CoD Ghosts Dog. DD would tear it to shreds. I don't even care that this is basically fan fiction on a forum thread. Fuck y'all. I'm out. DD all the way. @MH: Yeah, Kojima confirmed the other day (during the dog presentation I think) that the rock climbing is a non-standard shortcut. It'll be in a number of locations, hopefully including buildings, but not everywhere. Would be a really nice alternative to crawling through air vents. The level design is just so obviously going to be unreal. Like Thief: Deadly Shadows/Splinter Cell Chaos Theory unreal.

Theyve only been in power for, what, three years?

Yeah public events are some of the best, especially when it's your fire team of 3 and 4-5 other randoms. Such badass battles.

Half the country didn't want it. It wont happen again anytime soon. I was hoping for a Yes showing, but the union is definitely not a bad thing.

Your Vault is shared between all chars on your account right? That does soften the blow. I dont think i regret purchasing Destiny either, but i definitely feel bitter not having the freedom to trade it in. Never taking the plunge on a big purchase digitally again. If i have to, ill buy retail and once i know its worth it trade it in and get it digital. But aside from that, never digital first time. Except perhaps for MGSV TPP. Wooh nelly.

I was going to say: don't get too excited about Bioshock Infinite. To each his own, obviously. But it seemed like the game was on track for 'masterpiece' status until the last 1-2 hours. Imho it totally fucks everything up at that point; pacing, gameplay, story. All go out the window in the last act. The story/gameplay depth/pace has got nothing on the original Bioshock (notwithstanding Bioshock's end boss). Visually, though, it's still a masterwork. Like I think Bioshock Infinite is one of the greatest games ever just because it's designed so masterfully. I was so disappointed there wasn't any deeply explored thematic/metaphorical aspect to Columbia.

I really like Destiny, but the amount of little things like this which are so backwards can be really, really irritating. I saw a guy on Destructoid put it really well. He said something like 'Destiny seems incapable of having any really great aspects that don't have "but"s.'
-
Pre-rendered, clearly not much actually to do with what Silent Hills will be like. (Still stylistically excellent.) No thanks.

Yeah, the PvP is really good. I prefer it over Halo's because it feels quicker, more balanced. In Halo when someone would overpower you with a good weapon combo, it always felt unfair. But in Destiny it never really feels unfair. It just feels like you haven't quite nailed it yet. I much prefer the game modes as well, and the maps are a nice middle size.

Holy actual nutballs Snake can climb surfaces in The Phantom Pain just like you can in Assassin's Creed
-
Inspired isn't it. EDIT: Holy balls balls balls Snake climbs up a wall, rock climbing Assassin's Creed style. Can we do this on any surface?! You can have buddies who are in the game world. Rainbow Six style you can command them to wait, strike targets (people or objects eg explosives) on your command, or scout ahead (they will tag enemies along the way). There are many versions of Snake's prosthetic arm, which can all do different things. The only one we know of is one which can electrocute people, stunning them. Whoooo mama.
-
Wish I knew about Cryptarch rank sooner. Thanks for the info guys. I'd been hoarding encrypted items for ages, cos they scale to your level. After finding out about cryptarch rankI was like "screw it" and just decrypted everything. About to break Level 2 cryptarch.

What the heck is cryptarch rank

Im Warlock. It's toootallyyy siiiick When does your PS4 arrive man? Wait so is the raid around forever now? It just resets every tuesday? If so thats significantly better than the impression i was getting.

I did the Moon strike last night and didn't die- though there were a couple of close moments. Really badass Strike, tho not as long as the Earth one. Soooo you can only start the Venus Raid if you're level 26 or higher? And apparently even at that level it will be too tough? Wtf, man. I read a tiny anecdote in a comment section - a guy saying himself and 5 other level 27's were trying to do the first bit, holding four buttons down or something, but that they were getting so overwhelmed by insanely tough enemies they had to give up after a couple of hours. Didn't even progress past the first stage...
-
yess Hottie I went for the £55 version, and it's good but I think the DLC will make a big difference. And if your PS4 was 'free', then hell yeah, go for the all-inclusive option! I very much agree with that in principle, though in Destiny's case, truly I'm with Ethan. Destiny definitely isn't bad, and while it's not technically MMO in terms of player numbers, it's very MMO in terms of structure. Like, they ripped mission and upgrade structure straight out of WoW. And it really works for the most part. And also I couldn't possibly say it was boring getting to where I am now. I'm level 13-14, and while the "real game" apparently starts at level 20, I'm having a whale of a time. Pretty fun from level 1, but great craic from L8-9 onwards. I know a bunch of people who are level 20 and I'm beginning to see the mechanics which come into it then- and they are really nice. Really deep, good RPG and kit mechanics. Story's starting to pick up pleasantly, too. Literally my only complaint is that the worlds aren't big enough/ there aren't enough of them. They're still large and, despite the size, incredibly fun to explore. I really didn't expect the worlds to be this good for exploration.
-
What's people's thoughts on this "the game begins at level 20" line? I've almost never played an MMO, certainly not to end-game, so I have literally no idea how exactly a game can give so much after you've actually completed all the forward-movement content in it.
-
Hah, I meant like lukewarm. Reviews have mostly been 6-8 out of 10, which are good scores really. There have been a few scattered stinkers and high. I'd call 6-7 "warm". Like, "not bad".

From what I've heard all the devs are super obsessed with the lore and know The Silmarillion back to back. Apparently the game's as in-canon as they could make it without resurrecting Tolks himself and checking in. I reckon I'm gonna hunt for a good deal and pre-order it, too. Oh yeah.
