  1. I've never understood the whys of region locking in general. Could someone please explain this in a way that makes sense?
  2. Every dollar that goes into used games sales are dollars that could have gone to game developers and publishers. Do note that I'm not agreeing with online pass, project ten dollar or anything like that though. I think it affects devs and publishers negatively, but it's not like I think the devs/publishers should have a right to a part of the cash every time their product changes hands. I think Valve/Steam has the right idea about what to do about customers willing to buy the game but not at full price... =)

    DOTA 2

Nothing that sounds particularly surprising. Not sure I expected that many maps, but hey, like in HoN I'm sure most of them will end up hardly being played. @Dean: the trailer is up on steam's video section now. I think it's supposed to be out.
  4. Someone who is apparently willing to spend money on game X is buying it and none of it is going to the developers. Compared to piracy where someone who may or may not be willing to spend money on game X is getting it for free and the developers get nothing. Mathematically and logically, the former would have a bigger impact.
  5. Game developers are saying that used games sales "hurt" them more than piracy. Which is probably true. I don't think they are in general making a moral judgement against people who buy second-hand in those statements though.
  6. I'd give more of a shit about the game if it didn't seem to be "just another battlefield without any changes I care about." As it is, without origin BF3 would have been a "eh, might get it on a steam sale sometime in the future." With Origin and all the crap surrounding it, it's not likely I'll ever pick it up.
  7. Duke: it's not supposed to be an intelligent discussion, it's supposed to be "hurr durr christians are dumb." Not having seen the movie, but that's what I got from interviews with the people who made the film. Then, of course, if you're a christian you probably won't like that. I wouldn't expect any christians to.

    DOTA 2

I am pretty sure it's supposed to be a 2011 release currently. Edit: two more! This is probably Slardar. Some people have suggested Naga Siren, but that looks much more like Slardar's staff than Naga's weapon

I absolutely adore that art style. Holy fuck it's the perfect mix between WC3, LoL and HoN. And the interface is sexy as hell as well. I was interested. Consider me HYPED. Can't wait for the exhibition tournament! Edit: one more
  10. I kinda sympathize with both sides about the "punishing second-hand buyers/offering incentive for new buyers" thing. If you're not supporting the developer you might as well pirate it and put the saved money towards buying another game new. Or are we supposed to feel bad about not supporting GameStop as well?
  11. @The race comparison shots: I like the increase in detail. I don't like the lack of colour.
  12. Oh? I remember not hating the original Last EXILE. Which makes it > most stuff. =P
  13. Judging by the latest WoW expansions and StarCraft 2, pretty much. I keep being amazed at how little issues there are at Blizzard launches nowadays. Putting aside that Diablo I (1996) is still playable on the classic battle.net today, I do agree that I'd much rather be able to KNOW that I could - barring hardware/OS compatibility issues - always play the game... But to be honest, if I'm still playing Diablo III 10 years from release, I will have gotten my money's worth several times over.
  14. I can't really take any argument that Diablo III is likely to have unstable servers seriously. Blizzard is pretty much the world leader in "stable game server technology" right now. I think I've been unable to log into SC2 a SINGLE time outside of scheduled maintenance.
  15. *raises hand* I do this. A lot. Even when I decide a game I've pirated to try isn't for me, I will usually talk to friends about it and if they like what they hear, it is likely one or more of them will buy it.
  16. Why, do you know any? Not currently. Used to know a few.
  17. Seeing you two fight over which one is the bigger douchebag...
  18. I love australians bitching about game prices Full price console game in sweden is 600-700 sek. That's around 90-105 us dollars.
  19. If you were actually keeping check you'd know their response to the fan response is "We didn't expect this to be a big deal for a lot of people." I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually added an offline mode.

    Rainmeter

So much time and system resources used to pretty up (clutter up) a portion of your computer you hardly look at.
  21. Because if they can cater to Market Y without alienating Market X, then that's just more customers for them. It'd be stupid not to.
