  1. Locking out people of certain rank levels doesn't really work. It may with BF3 with its, if I remember correctly, one profile per account but before that, on say COD4. A total crap player can eventually rank up enough to play on higher ranked servers. It also works the other way with say me starting a new profile and I wipe the floor with the other team with just the basic gear. I honestly want to see that concept realized. It already in one form in MW2 Spec Ops. Very basic in the sense of MasterDex's concept but it can be fleshed out more. Also, on a different note... folks I know on campus are getting BF3 and its making me slip... I must hold on. Its way too soon to get this game even when I'm somewhat okay with the Origin crap.
  2. A bit more: I wonder how much the Move is going to be used. Edit: Fixing the media links.
  3. My PC is going to be a year old in December. So its not that old but computer hardware runs on a whole different scale.
  4. The PS4 thread got me thinking. Graphics, as we know them today (No 3D and shit), bottleneck in five years? Y/N? Surely in ten years?

Well, textures yes. But things like effects, lighting, animations and such can all still be very much improved and certainly optimized. There's plenty of room left to grow.

Now we just need to hire artists who know how to make something more interesting than dirt and explosions. =)

I think the bottleneck will only come if the industry wants it. Graphics aren't the only reason that development costs are going up and with the improving tools of the trade, I think the cost of graphics is going to go down in the next few years.

  5. If what dean said of about 8GBs of RAM, being 6GB of RAM and 2GB of VRAM, for a 2013/14 PS4 is correct then yeah, we certainly can see that. Hell, during that time a $400-500 (If its under $400, it'll be at $395 or $399. How they jerk us so...) console surely can cram that in. Be odd to see a console having roughly the same specs as my current PC though, of which I plan to have around in 2013/14, not sure if I will add in more RAM and new GPUs though.. --- A console, say the PS4, with 6GB of RAM and 2GB of VRAM should be able to do more with that than say my current PC, I would think. Reason being it has less stuff to run in the background. So improved AIs should show up too.
  6. Seems like most people are firm that the PS4 should be at most $499. And I'm realizing how silly it is to discuss what's the hardware is going to be like since I really can't think of anything new the PS4 can bring to the table. Hardware improvements are expected. It almost sounds like talking about the new hardware of an iPhone...
  7. I would quote Yant and his PS4 going for bluray and Xbox3 (calling it that for now) going for DD but its a bitch to quote on my phone. Anyways, going off what someone said, I forget who and its a pain to go back to read on my phone. If Microsoft goes DD for their next console, won't that put them at a disadvantage? A good chuck of folks don't seem ready for a pure DD console. Hell, I may be fine with it on the PC but on consoles... not so much. So I am with those folks. I got to have disks if it remains at $60 (Be nice if it went back to $50) a pop for a brand new game before any discounts*. If Microsoft sees this and are not willing to take the DD gamble, surely they could go the route of licensing one of those other high capacity disk formats? The PS4 for sure will have a an upgraded bluray drive so it can read all those improved bluray disks that will be coming out. With the no physical media problem of DD, among others issues like bandwidth. I don't think DD will be what the Xbox3 mains with. It seems foolish. (These issues can apply to streaming services as well) Both consoles will/should have an improved capacity for the DD model but they won't go all out on it.
  8. +++During typing this, I came onto how much each part (GPU) is and how it relates to the total cost of making each console then I quickly realize that I'm not sure at all how console makers budget for each part from its total budget for the whole console. So if any of you have a good source on it, shoot it up. I'm going to leave my original guesstimates (Guesstimate is a real word?) up. Also, I am talking out of my ass about something I am not knowledgeable about, that is why I lurk more often than post. +++ So yeah, the PS4 and this PS4 thread... I don't see it sporting anything like today's mid-range $200 GPU inside of it. First off it will not be a HD 6870 or whatever inside of it. It will be something made precisely for the PS4 and only Sony and whoever they are going with will know how much it will cost. It can't be a $200 PC GPU inside. It maybe a $200 piece of GPU hardware in the PS4 (Doubt it*) but with all the special things going into it, I don't think it can compare in performance to one of today's mid-range $200 GPU. Besides, if the rumors are to be believed about devs starting to make games for the PS4... then perhaps they have an idea/know about the specs of the PS4. Either way, the specs got to be old, months old even. I really want the PS4 to be a powerful machine that will wow me but eh, I don't see it. *I know most consoles initially sell at a lost so if I assume the PS4 is going to be $499 (I doubt they will go back to $599) and it takes, I don't know, $650 to make. I don't think the GPU is going to be nearly a 1/3 of the cost to build the system. --- Also, when it comes to money... $200 is $200. When it affect my rather stagnate pool of money, it will be felt the same way if I spent it 5 years ago on a GPU or today when I spent it on a GPU today. It doesn't matter if the modern day card is over 1000% better than the card 5 years ago. $200 is $200. Bleh, inflation and stuff like that hurts my head. BACK TO THE PS4 PLEASE.
  9. Eh, the way I see it, consoles will slowly turn into non-customizable PCs. The PS2 doubled as a DVD player and then the PS3 doubled as a bluray player and so much more. It almost seems natural. Just need people to start seeing consoles as not just gaming machines. Hell, with graphics plateauing it they will have to bump up the other areas like MasterDex said but along the way they will have to add something more. And Strangelove, consoles are lacking in hardware for which they are suffering from now. Its really limiting them. Sure the devs do some pretty damn creative stuff to work with the hardware but they can only do so much. I hope for $300 to (lets face it) $500, we can see at least 1GB of RAM and 1GB of VRAM. Be great if its 2GB of RAM but yeah, not sure how the cost of that will be and I have to work with your 300-400 bucks price range. I would love to compare computer hardware with console hardware prices but that wouldn't be too accurate.
  10. I think I'm scaring my roommates with listening to Blind Guardian... a Chinese guy and metal. Odd combo.
  11. This might be bad... my bronie side is showing again.

    Fucking Kotaku

That would be a funny and sad thing to see. Imagine him going all ranty and shit.
  13. Imagination(fun) is bad and you should feel bad for having it. That what I think the article implies... if I can't imagine awesome situations like a T-rex roaming campus while I listen to the Jurassic Park theme or imagine how awesome a Banshee from Halo would be for traveling... then life isn't worth living. Eh. Damn these baiting articles.

  16. Should I be worried that somebody in China got into my personal email account? Gmail by the way so its even more funny...

    Scrolls

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/10/13/the-name-game-inside-the-scrolls-case/ Thus both sides more or less spoke out. I dunno, from reading the comments, how much is riding on this case? Some people are making a big fuss while others, like me, are going "Meh. since we don't see it as a big deal if Mojang wins.
  18. Damn this is close. You know... he could just make it an option.
  19. Steam Red Faction franchise sale, part of the THQ week. 75% off every Red Faction game. I'm personally going to grab everything but Armageddon.
  20. With Atomsk's status post, I am remembering the days of Creative where I played for a few months... then the day I bought Minecraft for Indev with no concept of that it will morph to Infdev then onto Alpha. What a ride.* Also, it is great to see dragons finally making an appearance after teases of making them from over a year ago. I think I recall the first mention of them from Notch was back in Indev/Infdev. Now this: *Doesn't mean I don't have this problem and that problem, like how out of place a dragon's movement looks like but it sure have been worth my money.

    UK Politics Thread

    8. Guess I will never be admitted into the UK. And is this Jeopardy with me having to know all these historical facts, some of which I wouldn't ever think of?
  22. So, after all these years and watching people play it all the time, I finally played a game of the DotA genre. Sure I sucked ass but I got team (club) support. After looking into it more, I think I know what to do know, instead of getting killed ten times without a kill of my own.

  23. Play this before proceeding. We should of acted... they are already here! The Scrolls told of their return... their defeat was merely a delay. But the time after Nether opened... when the sons of Minecraft spill their own blood. But no one wanted to believe. Believe that they can exist. But when the truth finally dawned. It dawned in FIRE.
