  1. This is correct. The Let's Play I was watching had this plaguing the first 5 videos until someone pointed out to him that the 1.1 patch fixed that problem. From video 6 onwards, lo and behold, everything doesn't look like the quality of the lowest settings anymore.
  2. Copy of Skyrim shipped earlier than expected. Maybe there's a chance I'll get my hands on it before the weekend is over.

FDS, I've pre-ordered a few games on Amazon, all have arrived early. BUT it didn't have the "release day delivery" thing that it does now. It just said "expecting to arrive on X/X/XX" I'm hoping for a day early, but I dont know how it will work.

Where are you in relation to CA? Newegg can be quite fast if you're on the west coast.

Im in LA, but it seems my copy isn't arriving until 330 the 11th. which sucks.

  3. And now I have unlocked a military shotgun (looks like a SPAS-12) and a .50 caliber sniper rifle weapon style for my commando. My life is complete, because the shotgun is totally badass.
  4. It's an Acrobatic skill (I think). When you climb up a wall, holding down space bar will have you use a grappling hook that takes you up to the top of the building extremely quickly, and DAMN, is it useful. I also have Rocket Gliding in Acrobatics, which is also insanely useful.
  5. I have Gadgets and my Taser Pull always ends up freezing like that. Sometimes it clears up pretty quickly, other times I stand there in the animation for a good minute or a half before it wears off. Thankfully, the rifle never has a lack of means to bring down the hammer on the enemy. On another note, grappling hook + walls = BLOODY FREAKING AWESOME.
  6. It seems that the F2P rush has stabilized itself. Granted, there are still login queues, but it's not as bad. On another note, does anyone else receive some pretty bad lag when inside an instance? It's so strange. My rifle dude is so awesome. He went from generic commando spec-ops guy into totally-badass sniper rifle-swinging mortar-firing police shock trooper. Now if only I can get the armor that the Metropolis Science Police are using, and am currently in the process of trying to collect the Contemporary Tech style set (I currently only have the helmet). I'll post up a screenshot of my character later.
  7. DCUO is really, really good. Using a rifle just makes me feel so badass.

      I don't think it's thirty GB, but it's sizable. 17? 18? Something like that.

It's a 14 GB download (if I recall correctly), but installed, it's 17 GBs (99% of it is the Unreal Engine assets the game runs on).

Steam really needs a "download bandwidth required" as well as the "HDD required".

  8. Dovahkiin/beef combo for the dragons. I think they'll be pretty happy at your choice of mount.
  9. DCUO sure is odd. Site says servers are up. Try to log in and it says servers are down. Sometimes I can't even connect to the login servers.

Well, I mean, I think they were unprepared, but there are two things to consider. 1) What if you go F2P, and get a bunch of stuff ready, and then not too many people come? Then you've spent a ton of money and not gotten much more income. 2) How many games going F2P have gotten people this interested? LotRO went F2P, a few people I knew checked it out. Same with WAR. DCUO goes F2P, almost ALL the PC gamers I know head to check it out. Small sample size, but food for thought.

    3. Vargras

      Vargras

Yeah, basically what SixTwoSixFour said. MMOs get a HUGE surge in traffic and revenue when they go F2P (Age of Conan quadrupled its revenue or something when it went F2P).

      Pirandello

Yes, but what I'm saying is that out of all the games I've played that were P2P-gone-F2P, DCUO is the only game I've seen that seems to have these problems.

I played LOTRO and Warhammer when they went F2P and the amount of server problems they had were small compared to DCUO.

  10. I tried it yesterday, and I must say that it's actually very good. I played Champions Online for a large amount of time and tried CoH a bit, but I have to say that DCUO's combat and graphics are amazing. The game itself is huge, though. Was kind of a pain to download, but I think it was worth it. My character is a generic spec-ops commando dude with a rifle. Because I wanted a generic spec-ops commando dude with a rifle.
  11. Might be Breton or Imperial. Though, most likely going by my playstyle in Oblivion, I'll be Imperial. Stats be damned, it just means I have to work a little bit harder to get it.
  12. Now that is tight. The shotgun sounds like it can drop a Krogan on steroids. Nice to see DICE's sound team working their magic. Also: tiered health! Nice. Far Cry 2 all over again!
  13. Wow, nice screenshots. I think I like what they're doing with the system, especially with the more in-depth skill customization. On top of that, it looks like they changed the HUD a little bit so the shield/health/companion areas are more prominent. On another note, did anyone else just leave their Shepard named "John"? I changed my Shepard's name to Adrian (as a homage to Adrian Shepard from Half-Life: Opposing Force). Kept his looks the same, though. Contemplating changing up the looks this time around.
  14. Boom, there it is, lads. Rainbow 6: Patriots.

That's what bothers me though. Why not make a new franchise rather than killing the old one? I have Vegas and it's decent for what it is I suppose.

    3. Pirandello

      Pirandello

Psh. Make a new one? And have to do WORK? And use CREATIVITY? And make a game with ORIGINALITY?

Why bother with that when there's already something there perfectly ready to use?

      O_O

Meh. It's the marketing power of the brand, nothing more.

    Steam

Mine's roughly about $680. Which is odd, because I certainly don't remember spending that much. Steam deals are awesome. If I recall correctly, the only game I paid full price for on my list is Bad Company 2. Which went on sale a week after I bought it. Grr.
  16. I just realized that Skyrim releases on Veterans' Day. Which means that I probably won't be able to play it until the Wednesday after the release. Damn.
  17. That was my default choice, anyways (blowing up the station). In my experience, reverse-engineering any type of technology from your enemies' arsenal will only have bad results. Boom goes the station. Better safe than sorry. You want tech? Advance our own. Build bigger guns. Better shields. Cooler ships. We don't need no stinkin' Reaper tech to get things done.
  18. And yet, even if you did agree with most of IM's decisions in ME2, I wonder what could have caused him to put you on his blacklist and send his army of henchmen to kill you in ME3.
  19. News on the Mechwarrior reboot to be dropped today. Among the many rumors, it's supposedly PC exclusive.

I remember playing Battlefield Play4Free for about a weekend a few month ago. Never gonna do that again. They managed to not only take BF2 maps and make them infantry dominated, but also made bought guns do much more damage than the exact same, non paid-for guns.

      Johnny

... What are you guys on about?

F2P games does not in general have a worse community than the pay variants. I get yelled at more in WoW than in free MMOs like Allods.

    4. Pirandello

      Pirandello

My experience would like to say otherwise. Just simply go to any game with a booming F2P community (like, say, Dragon Nest), read the main chat for 2 minutes (really, two) and judge for yourself.

Of course, that's assuming the spambots don't crowd up chat, because F2P games also seem to be full of those, too.

  20. I shall abstain from watching. I want to surprise myself when I'm actually playing the game.
  21. It was a flashbang? From what I understand, he was shot at point-blank in the head by a half-pound less-than-lethal rubber projectile (which, at point-blank, is more than enough to be lethal). And then the Oakland police had the nerve to throw grenades into the crowd that were attempting to retrieve him. The numbers at Occupy Oakland have swelled since then. As for my opinion on the movement itself: I stand with him, but unfortunately have far too much invested into the current system, so I cannot join them. It's a rather touchy situation.
  22. I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't, but at least they look cooler this time. Though from what I understand, there is a special Dragon armorset, so at the very least, that's +1 armor option than there was in Oblivion.
  23. I'm partially glad it's a port. I don't upgrade my rig on a constant-enough basis so I think it's great if consoles can "dumb" down the requirements enough that so that even my ol' rig can run it. Probably sounds dumb, but it works for me. Controls and UI, on the other hand, better not be like a port. Knowing Bethesda, they'll probably do fine on the PC control scheme, but you never know...
