  1. Who you choose to go into certain situations during the final battle will dictate who gets killed. Simply put, there are a specific few character choices for each situation; choosing any character other than those specific few will result in their death.
  2. So I started my 4th playthrough today after the new patch supposedly fixed most of the stuttering. It did, which is pretty nice as most of the gameplay is now silky smooth. However, this time, I decided to be more gung-ho and forego a bit of hacking skill early on to get improvements towards combat capabilities. Worst. Freaking. Choice. Ever.
  3. It's region-free (supposedly). https://twitter.com/#!/yosp/status/114813147948384258
  4. Well, the game's levels automatically follow whoever is the host. So if you're low-leveled and the host, and I'm high-leveled and I join, the game will still continue as normal revolving around your level. It's just that you get some extra firepower with higher-leveled players. Unfortunately, it is still quite possible to die, if you're not careful. As for joining, usually I just sit around on the Game Lobby screen and wait until friends' games show up.
  5. I have it on Steam! I'm QWOP-GIRP, if you've not added me yet, though from what I can see on my Friends list, I've already added you. I've also beaten the game already so I'm available with some pretty decent equipment from the get-go.
  6. That sounds like the polar opposite of what was given to us in the game. I'd imagine that they had to change the whole thing to make it more appealing to a wider demographic in order to get more sales or something. Either that, or the PR team is made up of compulsive liars.
  7. It does. The combat isn't that bad; I heard the console versions had a special "analog" system that allowed you to choose where to hit the zombie. We don't have that on the PC, so we just swing and hit. I never really noticed the discrepancies in the UI, so I guess it wasn't high on my list of pet peeves. I'm not really sure what to think of that. For what it was intended for, the squiggly lines did a good job guiding me to my objective. I usually just resorted to looking at the actual map if I needed to know something. Sometimes it didn't work though (like giving me the long route instead of the obvious one), but it never was really much of a problem to me. This was never that much of a huge problem to me, as I'd been playing co-op the whole time (so the weapon durability cost was spread among the whole group), but I do find it irksome that swinging my purple-named Bladed Weapon of Awesome twice at something automatically smacks it down to 90% durability. I realize that there are skills to increase durability but I don't believe it should have been designed to be so, especially as a game with a focus on melee combat. Or at least they should have made guns insanely powerful, but ammunition more scarce. I think I actually turned a blind eye to this. Now that I look back on it, I do realize that some of the quests are actually insanely stupid. Much like what DukeOfPwn said, it wasn't really that much of a surprise that the game would have ended up like that. The trailer did lie, but I stopped relying on CG trailers to tell me what to expect in a game and waited on previews and gameplay videos instead. Much like how I developed my thoughts on TOR; the CG trailer looks great, but, come on, no way is the game going to be explosively awesome like that in the whole time you'd be playing it. Bad release dates don't help anyone, unfortunately.
  8. I have a fanatical love for the Command and Conquer series (the latest in the Tiberium series doesn't count because that was a travesty; let's hope Victory Games doesn't screw up the next CnC) and the rather old Battlezone FPS/RTS hybrid franchise owned by Activision. The latter I feel sad for because it literally has no chance of continuing its series because Activision owns it. And if it won't turn a profit, they won't make it.
  9. I played on the PC version. I have to agree on this. Before that trailer alone, Dead Island was supposed to be in development hell since, well, a long time. They only released a single, short teaser trailer before that showcased almost nothing of the game save the fancy title, and then it disappeared for several years.
  10. TL;DR of my post: It's not bad and I don't know what everyone's complaining about because nothing's broken for me and I had a lot of fun with it playing with friends and enjoyed it more thoroughly than I did with Space Marine. Though I seem to have digressed from Vargras's original status update post, so I think I'll just drop my two cents on that: Space Marine getting better reviews than Dead Island was to be expected since it didn't have a launch that had to walk across hot coals and the curse of bugs. Mostly the bugs. EDIT: Spelling.
  11. Syphon Filter 1 has not aged well. At all. Tazer is still fun, though.

damn I played that with my brother years back. He used to be retarded at it. Never figured out I was shooting the cars he stood on.

  12. It would seem that on Minecraft servers, I'm a spectator. I join a server, go around looking at the cool things that people have made, then move on to another server. Rinse and repeat. I rarely, if ever, build anything. Just small chat and a lot of tourism.

  13. I second this. Oni's melee combat was actually quite fun. The gunplay itself was also pretty great, too. And the story... well, I thought it was good. The twist really confused me for a bit. It's like it pulled a Deus Ex: the good guys aren't the good guys, but the bad guys aren't the good guys, either. Some of the levels were pretty damn hard, though, playing through it as a kid. Freaking Mercury rifles.
  14. I'm actually looking forward to this game, despite all the nay-sayers. Combat fits my fancy, the aesthetics aren't too bad, and the story is perfectly fine with me so long as it isn't of comparable quality to Stephanie Meyer. On top of that, I feel that they are definitely trying hard and not half-assing it. I noticed that a lot of people say that it looks like World of Warcraft. Well, that's fine and dandy to me so long as the armor that I'm wearing looks like it actually belongs to a damn set (like those cool armors that people get in those raids) instead of a visual abomination of various put-together armors.
  15. In the defense of the small inventory space, it's not as if you're going to be using each and every one of them in every situation. There's a breaking point where eventually the extra stuff you bring along becomes luggage instead of weaponry. Anyways, the only complaint I have with things so far now... is that the guns seem to be severely underpowered. I understand that it's a rare resource and the game is focused on melee combat, but these things should be able to flatten any normal infected with no problem whatsoever; ammunition at the point where I am is still so scarce that guns should still be used mostly for extreme purposes, so it does keep the balance between weapon types. As it is, the only way to get them to insta-kill is to pull off a critical headshot.
  16. Yeah, they did it so well, you can't even see the foliage anymore! Talk about optimizing to the extreme! It's like the strain it puts on the system doesn't even exist!
  17. I picked this game up for my little brother just a few days back. As with all shooters, he seems to excel at them far too well. He prefers playing as Assault; he gets a minimum 3 kills per spawn as them. He loves using the jump pack. He's also quite the Black Templars fan.
  18. Crysis 1 is coming to consoles. Neat.

      Can it run Crysis?* /banned

      *At its best.

I'm really surprised it's going to be a download XBLA/PSN release. How is this thing not 8GB?

  19. So, I decided to pick it up and try it out today. Don't know where all the hubbub about it being bad is coming from. Looks great, plays great, not much in the way of problems; hell, it even alt-tabs and exits cleanly. It's also a blast to play with friends. Only gripe is the tooltip pictures for actions like smashing doors in having the console version (right thumbstick) instead of the PC. But that's minor; it's just a tooltip picture, it's not as if the action itself was beyond broken for the PC version.
  20. I've always wondered. Is it possible to install a second HDD in my computer and have it run identically to the first one? Being able to install and play games from it and stuff.

Once done, boot up your PC. Go to My Computer, right-click the new, empty drive and format it to NTSC. You should now have the space you're looking for ready to use.

Some precautions: Make sure to discharge static before handling the HDD and working in your case. You can do this simply by laying your hands flat on unpainted steel like the side panel of your PC for a couple of seconds. It's also safe to not have long sleeves - just roll them up.

Hold the HDD by the sides or...

placed flat on the side of the label. Avoid touching the circuit board. That's basically it. You may need a phillips screwdriver to secure the HDD or open the case but no other tools.

Oh yes! I forgot the power cables. Sata power cables look like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SATA_power_cable.jpg Make sure you have them if you're getting a SATA drive. PATA/IDE cables use these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Molex_female_connector.jpg They're a standard connection and you should have at least one spare one, if not multiple spare ones.

That's all what I know, anyways. It's not like they started flaming each other, though, so I don't think it's all that bad.

Yeah, just I don't know how to feel about James. Though now I'm watching the Game Addiction episode on YouTube and I'm glad he's showing his face to talk about a serious issue. Maybe that's why I was suspicious of him; that he was the unseen force behind the show. While he does the writing, Dan speaks it while Allison illustrates it all.

Thanks for the heads up, love the show.

  21. Aye, for me, Mirror's Edge, as well. It's a fantastic game. Anyways, on to my list: 1. DEFCON - I wish they would just make the rolling demo into a damn screensaver already. The game, coupled with the music, always leaves me in awe. It's like a post-apocalyptic symphony of death. Almost eerily so. 2. Supreme Commander - I always have to get my commander on with this game. Nothing like controlling armies of killer robots who wage war with other armies of killer robots. 3. Battlezone (1998) - The setting and the gameplay always have me coming back for more. I just wish there was another sequel that could live up to the reputation of the series. 4. Deus Ex - I mean, come on, it's Deus Ex. It doesn't need an explanation. Seeing Liberty Island is like visiting an old friend.
  22. So, just watched the latest episode of Hanasaku. Ko is a loser. I mean, he literally confesses to the girl he likes, and then runs away. What kind of message is he trying to get across? "I like you, but I don't have the guts to date you."? He is a literal chicken-sh*t. And I hate his effing guts because now he tries to play off his relationship with Ohana as something that "couldn't be helped" because she moved to Kissuiso. And to think this guy has an admirer at the place where he works. I think he reminds me of a certain someone... oh, yeah, this guy:
