A lot of the rope arrow-only rooms are pretty empty. In fact if it leads into a room it's pretty much sure to be empty, the only times it tends to go to an alternate route/hidden area(such as the game tells you it should) is if it's an outcrop over the street or something. As I said, the alternate paths tend to be much of a muchness(where they exist). In the city hubs there's definitely a bit of encouragement to explore with rooms with loot and such in, but it's hugely diminished by the terrible map meaning many times you end up going back on yourself or ending up in a completely wrong part of town where you're meant to be heading. I remember the side mission to collect the mechanical hand and it's meant to be just around the corner but there's a whole building where there's meant to be a passage according to the map. I ended up in some weird spots for that one (I assume weird spots, the invisible wall told me I shouldn't have been able to climb that particular rooftop). I can't even remember how I ended up there in the end. And I understand the whole limited resource stuff, hence the frustration with the water arrows. Oh and frustration with the blunt arrows, have a full stock of them only needed to fire three so far that actually did anything(and about 10 or so that did nothing). I don't even understand the rest of the arrows, full stock of fire arrows, nothing to set on fire (except braziers I guess but I want them the opposite of lit). edit: Oh and to add it seems I have some Digital Deluxe edition, so until you posted about the Bank Heist being DLC I hadn't clicked. Explains why I don't remember getting given the mission for it and why it seemed to have a really weird difficulty curve. So I might have some parts of the game that's not in the normal game. edit 2: Oh yeah talking of the bank job, what does the wire cutters do? I came across a box early on and I couldn't do stuff then I bought the wire cutters next chance and I've cut a few wires (which was jsut a rope on a weight or something) and I've no idea what it's doing. No feedback or anything of like "hey now a safe is open somewhere or a door is open or a room full of gas has cleared" or something. Lights still remain so it's not cutting the lights.

New Jupiter Rising trailer. Looks like it'll be a spectacle, though tbh still not sure what it's going for.

They should maybe make that a bit clearer.

Well it was a couple years ago, but there's definitely issues in trying to get at least one of them running or yeah I'd have at least one of the old Thief's under my belt. Probably the first one. Deadly Shadows? As I said, been gifted Thief Gold, which I imagine/hope comes with a bunch of compatibility patches included (and it's through Steam, not that it's saying much) so should run. It's not just guards, it's pretty much anyone around will relight stuff, kind of annoying to find a few seconds later you've just wasted an arrow, so tend to give up on any thiefy sneaking and just run through areas(mainly in the town). Which to me feels a bit against the point of how I reckon they'd aim for you to play the game. As for the electric light, it feels it might make sense if introduced in later part of the game to combat torches being put out, but they pop up almost immediately after you're taught to put out light sources to sneak around. It's like "here's the mechanic, now we're going to make it mostly obsolete". Somewhat broken game progression system. If there are alternate paths then they're not highlighted too well, most alternate paths I come across don't tend to have any major changes just...well an alternate path. Not sure how to explain well. It's "six and two threes". They're alternate paths that do the same job....okay to compare with Deus Ex you've the path through the gas, the path through the vent, the path through the weak wall. actually different paths rather than 3 corridors with a robot roaming down each. Oh yeah talking of alt paths, another issue is most of the fucking struts for your rope arrow just lead into a single empty room, no extra path or secret loot or nothing. Who came up with that idea? Especially since the arrows ain't free. It's one of the complete opposite of one of my fave aspects of Deus Ex with "Explorer 100". You get rewarded for exploring, looking for different ways. But with Thief it's all "Oh you thought you'd found an alt route? Well you haven't so fuck you. You've wasted an arrow and got nothing for it. Hope that makes you feel like continuing and attempting to explore with rope arrows in later levels." Just a hand grab animation would do for stealing stuff. It's one of the main animations of the game when you're thieving stuff in Thief. You'd think someone would have piped up on refining their main animation regardless of others. As I said, it just feels like the game didn't get much love. No one on the team felt strongly enough about the game to give it a mirror polish. The quick swap/weapon wheel/I dunno. The big circle accessed through d-pad(it's how I was playing it so I could cycle at same time). Doesn't actually change your weapon most times, takes a few tries until your choice sticks. Strikes me as a bug more than anything.

As in the map in general was pretty hard to decipher, but on top of that the mini-map only stuck around for a bit, so you had to keep constantly calling it down.

Sorry re-reading this might not come across right. The reason I queried about being a joke wasn't cos I'd previously answered it but the question of "tell me what's at the end but don't spoil it" seemed somewhat contradictory. Though you did clarify with what upcoming film. Though yeah, the finale of Captain America doesn't have Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver suddenly just pop up with zilch development and save the day.

Oh. Avengers 2.
-
Ah wait yeah I remember that skill. I guess that might help quite a bit. Also I never bothered much with the Jecht spheres, but it's mainly the destruction sphere and Sigil that's the main things to grab.

Did I not mention about the "make sure you sort out besaid before leaving cos you're gonna struggle to come back"? But yeah Yojimbo is pretty OP. Also: Sphere Distiller items?

I should note that I've not been able to play the originals (before my time, and then later on my OS was beyond their time. But I was gifted Thief Gold which I believe runs a bit better on modern OSes). So there's no comparisons from myself going on between old and new, I can only judge it on it's own (well, on it's own in the series, obviously it's up against other games in general). It's just got quite a lot of flaws to it, and those built-up during my time with the game to the point where I was like "fuck this". It's terrible at teaching you mechanics, and when it does teach you mechanics it then tends to ignore them or void them (the whole shadow stuff and using water arrows. Either the level is littered with electric lights with no switches, or the torches just get lit up again, both kinda making it a bit pointless). The animations are god awful. Garret must be part chicken the way his whole torso "pecks" at things. The map is terrible, and has a habit of popping away too often with no way of just making it stay permanently, and the quick launch thing doesn't properly work 80% of the time. Which is super horrible because it doesn't pause the game, it just slows down time a bit. Thankfully I've yet to come to a scenario of needing to actually quick swap my arrows/throwables yet. It's been a few weeks since I played so probably some other specific elements of the game too. It just had a large feeling like no one gave it any love. And given external happenings of the game I've a feeling that largely was the case, calls from on high said "you've spent too long making this game, finish it and get it out the door".

Ehh. Gaymer as a community is nice. Things are getting better but it's still a bit of a scary world for young folk coming out so having a community with a common interest to mingle in can be quite helpful.

How are yanks finding the new stuff?
-
Errr.... Joke, right?
-
I'd kind of be disappointed if they are saying it's a new character and then it turns out to be Jason Todd or some other existing character in a suit.

There was times where I was like "you know this looks worse than the original, but maybe it's just me". It has been over a year or two since I last played DXHR so not going to remember much between them, and a new PC which means runnign stuff on full. It was always about aesthetics with the game over raw graphical prowess so not really been ripping much apart on graphical issues and glitches. Definitely a vsync issue for Nvidia users. I had followed suggested fix of disabling the ATI stuff in registry but it still remained. That was definitely my main graphical annoyance with the game. Though overall it's a game I rather enjoy so I still played through to the end. Unlike some other games that stole my time!

They've released a proper look at the Joker in the new game:
-
Much better than Thief. Main changes are the boss battles have extra floors, computers etc and such. Other than that not many tweaks. I guess it has DirectX11 support but never really noticed anything particularly stand out in that regard. Oh I did notice there's a part which I never got to play and I'm not sure why, involving the semi-renegade augmented spec-ops team you can talk down. Oh yeah Missing Link is laughably joined in. Obviously you now don't have to leave the main game mid way through and play Missing Link, but it pretty much just stops the main game, loads up then kicks into Missing Link, cutscene "previously on Deus Ex" and all (that was relevant previously due to it's standalone nature and launching some time after).

Oh yeah sorry. Just come from the cinema watching it. I shall edit to make that clearer (not that mentioning Wanda and Petrof should drop hints)
-
Wow. You know I don't think I've ever seen the BBC servers even flinch.
-
Right. End of Captain America 2 answers the question of Wanda and Petrof: Black Widow's past isn't covered (though hinted at) and it's strongly implied that Also for not much been bothered to watch Captain America 2 I'd say it's actually pretty good. Action was kept going and it actually fills in a lot of plot holes from past films and for future films stuff is going to change a little bit. And while there's a really obvious twist in the film you can see 9 realms away, there's a rather nice twist that they've kept hidden well (though maybe if I was to be following everything I'd know it was coming).

She ages slower than normal due to being Russian Captain America with the super soldier serum. Which in the marvel movie universe they've already said Hulk is a a case of it's redevelopment going wrong so Black Widow also been a recipient of a SSS equivalent doesn't seem too far fetched than just "she's pretty skilled". They could work Scarlet Witch's powers into being Cosmic Cube related, similar powers and such. But might not stretch far for Quicksilver. it's a fair while off, we'll see. I'm reckoning they're going to just be all "because" with upcoming powers. Especially as they've got Doctor Strange to include in there somewhere. As Empire noted they already turned Asgardian "magic" into quantum science, so then turning around and going "oh well actually this guy is magic" might be a bit off key. Though...Guardians of the Galaxy implies they're not playing to one tune.

It was a re-telling of the tale we already had with Mcguire but now with different actors. Garfield is alright and all but it just feels all kind of lazy.It is as you say way too soon. I felt as a film it was pretty bad too, lot of very convenient plot elements, and they're trying this whole "oooh, what conspiracy involves the Parker family and Oscorp?". I can't even remember how it ends, my memory of the film stops with The Lizard picking up Spidermans camera with "Peter Parker" written in big letters on the back. Also who looks at Sally Fields and goes "yeah, Aunt May". And I can't see it going too well given the new film already has three villains and strong hints and the full Sinister Six.

She's Russian equivalent of Captain America. She's also not much younger than he is.

I don't understand why people carry on bringing up WhatsApp given they barely announced they buy out a few weeks ago. Facebook would have to be pretty driven to run a $19billion purchase (That I think hasn't gone through yet) into the ground in a few weeks. As for Instagram they're bored with it. The entire point of Instagram purchase was so it wouldn't become a Twitter purchase (much like it gained video powers after Twitter made Vine). Which is why I think the Oculus deal is going to go south. Facebook are a follower, and in this case they have no one to follow and are trying to be head of the pack. They fucked up on Mobile and way missed the boat with it, still struggling to recoup ground there. But here they see a tech they think is going to be "the future" and are staking thier claim on it. But it's just so out of their comfort zone. Look at all their past acquisitions. Pretty much all of them are related to Facebook in some way; communications technologies, photo tech, mobile firms etc. Then suddenly a VR firm that's full of gaming types with gaming support. The venn diagram of Facebook and Oculus barely brushes near each other. But Facebook will likely force the venn diagram to converge. They're not just throwing $700million+ shares at Oculus for them to continue making stuff that'll support video games. They're going to want to see return on it. And I can't see Oculus providing that, which is likely going to mean it being shuttered or spun off with hopes of another company picking them up, but few have $2billion+ lying around to buy (not that buying FB shares will be worth much. The Oculus purchase is already worth nearly $100million less than when announced). Even with all thier money Facebook hasn't the power to push hardware. Give it a year or so, they'll buy a wearable firm instead. Folks already speculating that this purchase is to compete with Glass, but I don't really see it in Oculus. I can see Facebooks urge to break into Wearables, Oculus just ain't it though. It's opaque as hell. Wearables is AR, Oculus is VR. Google is pushing Wearables hard, and Google knows what everyone wants.
