From what I've played of the game so far I'd say walking away and leaving it to it's own devices isn't really something you'd want it to do. Though I would guess it's only pausing when alt-tabbing? (which is a pretty standard game feature and I'm usually bummed when a game doesn't do it). I'm on dual screens and if I move my mouse from the game it still runs so I can chat or what not in the other screen. They're pretty hungry at first, but on my second game I made sure to have enough variety started up. So far based upon TotalBiscuits video I've not yet adventured in the realm of building a Market, but I do have about ~4000 units of food easy enough (and limited amounts of everything else except herbs). It could be down to better management or maybe just the map. Though my second game has been in a bit of a weird valley meaning a chunk of bridges needing to be built to expand, or tunnelling. I think it's best to get a steady pace going then start building homes. Building homes within the first year is going to kill you off fast, farms and orchards won't be bearing fruit and you'll have your labour focused on building other buildings instead of harvesting at that time. The firewood has definitely been an issue for me. Wish there was a way of prioritizing wood between construction and firewood, since firewoood is pretty much 1 log = 1 firewood. I can see my issue in this current game being old age. I am working on expanding a fair chunk in population now that I'm sorted with farms and building up my first spin-off village (due to aforementioned terrain issues). Just got a trade post built. My first trade amounted to nothing, you can't just do straight trades of all your stuff for their stuff. They'll only trade off you want they want and need. So while I had enough stored to buy sheep, they only wanted three items that I had very little of (and worth very little). So for next trade I've put much more items into the trading post. Hoping to get some bigger livestock. I should probably set-up wells now I come to think of it. Gotta say I like that it's flat development. There's no tech tree, you build whatever when you want. But you might not be wise to do so. My first game failed due to lack of buidlings. I made a mine and quarry way too early on, and forgot to toggle my woodcutter so the quarry and mine used up a huge amount of resources and woodcutter took the rest. The dev in his blogs has sounded like he's going to be launching the game and beyond bugs not doing much work on it, but there's certain tweaks I wouldn't mind seeing. Domestication of animals for one would be good since you only have what you're given. Trackers would be cool to have as well, map out deer paths, good herb spots etc. Custom starting options too, instead of just the hard, medium and easy. Pick specific items to start with, mix up the adult/child ratio, etc.
  2. http://www.google.com/atap/projecttango/ Project Tango. Google have made a prototype phone to detect the three dimensional space around it. Currently looking for developers so it's likely more than a gimmick. I think in general day to day use for the average person it likely won't do much use. But for sight impaired then it could be quite the boon if their phone could tell them they're about to walk into a wall, or if something around them has moved from last time. edit: TechCrunch have some videos of it in action: http://techcrunch.com/2014/02/21/heres-an-actual-3d-indoor-map-of-a-room-captured-with-googles-project-tango-phone/
  3. Guardians is going to be interesting. If it does well then it's going to make DC/Warner look like absolute morons with the whole Wonderwoman snafu. For Marvel to take practically unknown comic book characters that include a raccoon and a tree and make it popular and then for Warner try and cram Wonderwoman, an actual known charachter, into a Superman-Batman film instead of having her stand on her own, is going to make em look pretty dumb. Not that every move they make on their self-planted minefield towards Justice League isn't making them look dumb.
  4. Have they got past Safari Zone yet? I had some friends speculating the other day that given the nature of Safari Zone that Twitch might not get passed it. Still it's certainly an interesting thing happening. Wonder if anyone might try it with other games, it'd need to be something relatively basic mind. Also fun that it's so popular Twitch have had to shift it's chat onto it's own server.
  5. My grandma got a large plastic storage box (like the ones put up in the attic kinda size) full of Lego for a fiver from a carboot. But other than that, yeah they're pretty pricey to buy straight from shops. The movie was pretty damn good though, and I'd say despite being a kids film it was definitely targeted towards the parents and such. The twist you could see coming given things that appeared in the film earlier on. Here's an album of photos taken from the set of the film that's up at LegoLand:
  6. Yeah I'm not talking about things like the Widget being cheaper than the Humble Store atm, I'm talking about the fact that in shifting the Humble Store over to giving Europe "simpler" £/€ pricing they've popped on a few bucks to most games meaning they're costing more than we should be paying.
  7. It's probably worth noting that the Humble Store (though not yet rolled out to the widgets) recently moved to the "simpler" system of using £/€ which means they've jacked up prices across the board. I don't particularilly care on "DRM-free" versions since sweden supplies those anyway, and for the most part primary concern is cost to me. I'm aware the Widget gives more money to dev, but end of the day I ain't a charity.
  8. Not quite a "death" but Irrational Games is laying off 90% of it's staff to Ken Levine can focus on smaller gamers. http://irrationalgames.com/ Which imo is fucking retarded as hell. If he wants to make smaller games with a smaller team then what the hell was wrong with him spinning off another studio with him and 14 buddies instead of making a 140 people unemployed and having to look for work? Currently it comes across as hugely selfish on Levine's part. He misses the good old days so 140 folks have to bite the bullet while he continues to sit at the top safe and sound. There's more than likely plenty Take-Two and money and all that lot sitting behind this all, though why would be a great reason since in general Infinite seems to have been a pretty solid success and nothing in the past year has cropped up to suggest otherwise. If it had been a stinker it would have been much much sooner to launch that folks would have been laid off. Hopefully this is going to be pulled apart by folks and there's more to it than what Levine has put up on the site. It just doesn't hold water so far.
  9. I made about half an aztec themed level. The problem was LBP level building tools were an absolute PITA. Whereas within a day of owning Mod Nation Racers I'd make and published 3 tracks, it was an absolute breeze and just shat all over what Mm had attempted with LBP.
  10. Oh god, I bought a game at launch. (I also bought it off their site cos it's cheaper and you get both the DRM free and Steam versions)
  11. If anything this hugely highlights the difference in recording quality between languages.

Said I would do well on all my midterms except for one. That one I am not planning to even take because I am dropping the class. Checks out.

  12. Maybe it actually is just an Xbox 1?

I'm gonna get it. I've been following it, haven't bought a game new in a while. And £12 is a fine price. Though deciding between whether I'll get it either from dev site and see what the Steam key dealio is or just whack it straight through Steam.
  14. Thief is doing that thing where the PS4 is 1080p and the Xbox One isn't. What makes it a bit worse is this is a 7th gen game.
  15. 24" monitor. I've never gone with Acer for monitors before but this has got pretty good reviews Housemates say I'm crazy with 24" but I did use a 27" TV-monitor as a monitor for a fair while and I figure I might as well have a decent upgrade on my current 19"-ers.
  16. Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, updates through Windows Update and runs smoith as silk. It's also pretty simple to temporarily disable the real time scan for when you're doing things that might activate it. As for BitDefender I think that's another free one, hence not seeing it on shelves.
  17. http://imgur.com/a/t7ig3 R-rated (though not all of them) movies in the style of children's picture books. The artist is a Pixar dude, which explains why the style seems somewhat familiar. I like the words for the Psycho one.
  18. Step 1: https://lastpass.com/ Step 2: Come up with a system. like [domain]pwd123 That way one password hack won't bring down everything because you used password123 for every log in. If someone goes through manually and has multiple password tables with your stuff on they might work out your system, but for the casual hacker type they'll just be blasting your email and password against a bunch of services, so kickstarterpwd123 won't work on gmail or paypal or what not.
  19. You said it's not economical for the dev to build that kind of infrastructure, which is true and once upon a time it's how you'd have had to do it. No studio is going to build twice the amount of needed servers to fit initial capacity then not use them for the rest of the games time. But with the many cloud server services around many businesses offload their surge in traffic to other servers. It's true of any business, it's why the hire sector exists. Though in EA's case given they're a large company with a fair chunk of online games and services you'd think they'd have bulked up their servers somewhat to cope without the need for on-the-fly outsourcing. However given their frequent turn around on closing MP for games, I think they're purposefully keeping their server capacity as slim as humanly possible and suffering all the shit storms that comes with it (SimCity being the major one)
  20. Well the original is set in the UK and was made in the early 90's so I imagine quite a lot is different given the differences between UK and US political structure, as well as the 20+ years that have passed and changes political landscapes (and technology too, from what bits I've seen he uses Twitter and such a fair bit). I think it's mostly a case of using the main themes and overall plot than taking it page by page. Series 2 of UK House of Cards is "To Play The King", so I imagine at this point the US version is either largely unique or going to get very interesting with the introduction of a US monarch. I imagine it's a decent watch, and given the time span unlikely to be an almost carbon copy like early Office and IT Crowd. It's also on Netflix (at least here in the UK)
  21. Ehhh... I'd have fully agreed with that statement some years back, but with the amount of bulk-buy-server-capacity companies popping up, of which Amazon is king of the hill and recently specifically targeting games, it shouldn't be that hard to outsource some of the initial capacity to keep things smooth for the first week or so.

    Help!

It should theoretically have only been an issue on Friday, if you've had it before then I'm not sure what it would be. But basically as mentioned earlier with the Apache thing, on Friday the forum (well, everything) got shifted over. This changed the DNS which should only take 4 hours to propagate, it's likely if you visited the forum in that time your browser has cached the "bad_httpd_conf" version, in which case a hard refresh/clearing cache should sort it out. Especially if it's only happening in a particular browser but loads fine elsewhere, since the initial error is caused by your ISP refreshing their DNS. If it happens across multiple browsers for you still at this point then you'll maybe want to get in touch with your ISP since they apparently really slow at refreshing their DNS records.
  23. Maybe Castle Crashers? I wasn't around for the start though, so not sure if it counts since I didn't do a "whole" play through. This was on PS3, I actually own it on PC but never had the chance to play it.
