  1. Yeah launched today. Seems weirdly hush hush though. Apart from iPlayer updating with Chromecast support and a bunch of leaked PC World inventory screens there wasn't much sign it'd be coming out. I guess maybe low initial stock levels and didn't want to create too much initial hype?
  2. Getting back into DXHRDC cos I want to restore my faith in Eidos Montreal. Cos man ...Thief.
  3. Got £5 off it through a mothers day promo on Amazon. Figured it'll relieve some stress from my PS3 since it covers pretty much everything it does, except for the PS3 games.
  4. They don't use one for further way and one for near to the screen. In FFX (and pretty much every 3D FF actually) they have battle models, field models and cutscene models. My understanding with the HD remake is the cut scene model is now also the field and battle model too. It's pretty much a processing thing, with battles you tend to have a lot of flashy effects: processor intensive, and in field you tend to have a bunch of other NPCs. But with a cut scene you can set up performance exactly how you want it (and with FMVs you can obviously pre-render it too). Though I should note with FFVII this is the other way around: Field model: Battle model: Though it's their first 3D FF so priorities might have been different. Ethan is right for how it's done with other games though. Here's a write up I did about LoD and TF2 for PXOD some years back: http://pressxordie.com/2011/01/24/team-fortress-2-is-too-detailed/
  5. The EU one has UK listed as "most fascism groups", which it turns out is pretty legitimate claim of the UK.
  6. Speed read shit, like FlyingGerbils ridiculously long Pocket list: http://www.squirt.io/ Weird and Wonderful is my middle name. (mine was almost Dean) It's a WIP sort of morph ball come "the thing that will kill you all if you made it like 100 times larger and equipped it with a laser cannon"

    Banished

My Banished review: http://pressxordie.com/2014/03/18/review-banished/ And a few pictures (might add more to the album in time), mainly for the snow gltich stuff: http://imgur.com/a/WWDAO#1
  9. Ender's Game Kinda surprised, though most of the past things I'd heard about the film was about Orson Scott Card being a homophobe and not of that really plays out in the film itself. Considering the game itself mostly has kids in it apart from a couple most of them are pretty good, and obviously Ford and Kingsley there to help prop them up. I'd say I only have three major beefs with it: 1) the ending falls a bit flat/anticlimatic. But it would be due to seemingly setting it up for a sequel (There's quite a few books it'd seem) 2) there's a bit at the end where 3) I feel it might actually have worked as a really good TV series. Expanding upon parts of it some more, spending more time on the morality of using kids in games, bit more time to spend on character building for everyone else.
  10. So because of the way the Titanfall campaign is made you can play through it all without firing a shot. As Tony has done here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL23pr4pMnexygNzUhS6xVi_hllGuIltv5 He found out though you do at least have to walk, or it kicks you for "inaction". Just kind of strikes me as a bit weird/sloppy in designing an FPS game that you can "beat" without actually shooting anything. Obviously MP elements means an aspect of unpredictability, but it's surely not too hard to try and force the players hand somewhat to actually participate and shoot stuff, or at least not reward them with "beating" the level for doing nothing? For one it must be surely infuriating to other team members that someone on your team can do nothing and the game doesn't do anything against them for it. Anywho, videos are only a bit over an hour all told, so if you're wanting to see what the Titanfall campaign is then here's a movie to watch.

Hooray. It's slow again. So it's a Sunday night (for me) so I'm gonna hold off til tomorrow to send support email through. Mixture of: cos I want to go to bed in the next half hour, don't want to get angry at this time of night (though not doing well at the moment) and cos not likely to get response til tomorrow anyway. I've done everything within my technical grasp that their support articles suggest, most of them before I got their support emails and a couple things years ago. For the most part this forum is running as light as it can without not running at all. I've even asked at work, but we don't deal with this kind of hosting. Also means they can't trouble shoot it in usual way since all the admin level tools are on Dreamhosts side and apart from to show me a log of their server bot killing one of the sites (it doesn't list which) I haven't been given me any actual useful info to further troubleshoot it myself, nor do they seem to want to lift a finger to try and resolve it on their end except "rest the apache server", which I not notice they've just responded to me on Twitter offering to do the same again (I'm not submitting a support request atm, but I'm open to a quick bitch about them in 140 characters or less). I'd think after nearly two months it'd be obvious to them that it's something deeper than "turn it on and off again" would resolve.

Figured as such. So now super annoyed cos I got a template email response. (The same part of the support reply also mentioned "USERNAME", which I've a feeling the responder was meant to swap out with my name maybe)
  15. Second hand kindle. Works well so far. Figured it'd test the water on the concept a bit and if I like the idea I'll grab a Paperwhite or something and slug this at someone in my house or whatnot. Might even get past the first page of Darrel's book.

Quick question: Anyone had a http 500 error during the site slow down period? (Last I've had on here was nearly a year back)

I'm really hoping I'm not going to have to be hitting up the host every few days to "reset the apache service". Though I sent support request on Saturday and got the support response last night, and it was fine in-between those times so doubting that's "fixing" it. Maybe something new on the server (as in another site ran by someone else) is conflicting or something? Though you'd hope if that was the case they'd be able to see and go "oh yeah, this other site is going doo-lally on the server". Updates on IPS 4.0 are coming more and more frequently, so I'd guess they're heading towards completion and maybe with a fresh install if there's anything that's bugged out in the code it'll be sorted. I literally have fuck all idea what's up or how to resolve it and both Dreamhost and Invision seem unwilling or unable to offer a hand. Submitted another request, this time pushing a bit more on the "hey can you maybe look into the underlying cause instead of just essentially a "turn it on an off again" response".
  18. Hey look, been a year since last posted in here. Lot's changed. Anywho been playing it last few days. *sucks in breath* Well, someone made a game with very little polish didn't they? Core mechanics work fine and all but for a stealth game the audio is terrible, at the start chatting with Erin it's like you're on a comms channel in Halo not two thieves in a early 20th century-ish city. Guards are all over the place for sounds too, likely to force hand in upgrading to the "see the sound" ability. You peck when stealing things too which is a rather strange animation choice. (not the only odd animation choice either, there's a sort of mini chase at the start and the sort of stalling as you hop over barriers rather than an AC-like flowing through stuff is quite jarring) Story so far is okay, though I'm slightly concerned by the general lack of concern Garret has for the fact he's been missing for a year. Also after playing Dishonored "corrupt city government ran by shadowy figure while town is infected by plague and there's a blind old woman giving a helping hand with levelling up" is certainly not super original at this stage. I'll perceive, but I think this was in the oven too long. Certainly releasing after Dishonored hasn't done it any favours. I guess I kinda like the hidden areas (though be nicer if non-climbable areas were made a bit more obvious)
  19. Not really like you need "bitchin' PC" to process audio. Having a game that's 60% audio just screams to me that someone has fucked up somewhere and audio definitely won't make the difference between 30 and 60fps. When was the last time any of you heard of sound cards providing a noticeable performance boost? Especially compared to the likes of an improved CPU or GPU. Audio processing is normally a task with minimal load on the CPU, 1-2% at worst. Most of the frame rate hits will be in the graphics and physics and with those it's normally the uncompressed textures that decrease performance.
  20. Though pretty sure most Valve games running on Source hit like a billion fps anyway without being uncompressed audio and on the core front were built for single core, cos back in the da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-day multi-core systems actually caused hiccups up until Portal 2/CS:GO updates. If they're planning on dedicating an entire core to playing the sound something is up
