  1. Ohhhh. Yeah that's not what the "leaked" games are that end up on pirate sites. There isn't a separate pirate copy and a proper copy sold in shops, the pirate copies are the versions shops get. Before launch the discs are spirited away, there's many stages for that to happen, and ripped n uploaded. If they were two distinct versions of the game then sabotage of the pirate version would be common practice.
  2. Okay something has clearly been lost in translation here. You can't leave buyers with a sabotaged game as that would run foul of consumer protection laws, your studio would be sued off the face of the earth. Which is why you can't do it in the forst place as not all folks have net connection tobe able patch their game.
  3. I'm not saying to patch the bug in, I'm saying about patching the bug out once the game is in legal payers hands. It requires everyone to have net access or many people will be left with the sabotaged game.
  4. See I first saw Nightwatch with fancy subtitles that came in different fonts n effects n places depending on who n when is speaking then got it on DVD n started to doubt my memories of first watch. Should watch Daywatch some point, Ive owned it long enough.
  5. Can't really do stuff like the cape glide stuff in a console game as there's no exe to check isn't tweaked and you can't do anything that requires patching either. Regular DRM stuff is the main line of defense.
  6. Damage Over Time. So effects like Poison and Burn.
  7. Pom Poko It's weird more than anything. And very very preachy. Which I can be fine with but this struggled to work out of it was trying to teach you to care for wildlife or if it was going to have tanookis sail off in giant scrotum ships and going all DBZ style on Tokyos ass. Current housemate only has a small selection of the Studio Ghibli collection compared to Tom though. Which at least makes avoiding Grave of Fireflies kinda easy (except she has said about actually picking that and tissues up). I might suggest Totoro next, since that seems to be one folks like. (Though that's "next..in the Ghibli stuff", cos I'll probably aim for something hollywoodish next film)
  8. On a technical level of making a game the difference between male and female isn't exactly just a case of swapping out skins, they move completely differently. Can be quite a lot of work re-rigging, especially if you've some fancy melee fighting system going on too. I am of the same boat as Ethan: It'd be nice to see a wider range of characters but they don't need to be crowbarred into everything nor do I think games need to have choice of characters. I also bring my issues over from the "LGBT in Games" thread n say that minorities can be covered rather badly within games, at least videogame "WASPs" are something game studios seem fairly comfortable and skilled with using.
  9. Doesn't that assumption put yourself in an automatic high n mighty morality? One would assume that a decent chunk of folks that are so excited for the game are huge fans who have likely had it pre-ordered from the moment Cortana first shouts "John Wake up" in that teaser trailer are the types who might jump on the chance to grab it ASAP as well (like yourself). Of course on a technical level it's worth pointing out that last I checked the way Xbox 360 piracy works is your console pretty much becomes a piracy or nothing machine as you can't go on Live anymore, kinda negating buying a huge multiplayer game like Halo 4. (That's why I tend to point out console piracy as being a tad more serious than PC piracy is because you can do it casually on PC but on console it's a dedicated effort to pirate games media)
  10. Been reading through "The Death of Superman" stuff. Been a while. It's a manual compilation too (I last read it as a properly compiled graphic novel) so spans quite a few comics, also this one I think is heading on to Reign of the Supermen too which I've never read before. City Library has a few shelves of Graphic Novels and Manga, any suggestions for what to look for? I've seen The Last Hero(Pratchett) which I might pick up when I leave (may as well actually rent something out). They've Volume 5 of Dark Empires which kinda sucks in fact I think they've only two Walking Deads as well. But not that I can complain, librarys tend to have somewhat sucky book collections (Their IT selection is terrible unless you want ot know how to use Office or OSX)
  11. My friend wants to know something about this film: Does it have anything to do with left-handedness?
  12. Actually Oblivion on PS3 ain't bad. Was my first shot at the game on the summer I first got my PS3, got about 120hrs or so in it. No issues like there is with Skyrim (though I remember back when Oblivion first hit PC there was issues with it depending on your GPU. Made grass purple iirc)
  13. Beat Costume Quest and it's DLC (can't remember the name) Neat little game, but took a while to get its hook into me. I'm not a fan of the fact the main battle strategy depends upon which "Battle Stamps" you've equipped beforehand, since within battle all attacks are pretty much the same: Either a main attack which requires twiddling the L stick or hitting ABXY when bar hits the right spot. Or a special attack which provides group damage/healing/protection. Which sucks as that takes time to charge and it can be the only way to heal. It's a pretty good game as a "my first JRPG" though (even more so than Fable is "my first WRPG"), even if it skips over explaining what a DOT is. But other than that it's highly refined, some decent puzzle elements and so on. The DLC was decent too, about 1/3 or so of the length of the main campaign just within a wintery set-up (you're now campaigning for the revolution instead of trick-or-treating).
  14. Well done, I'm from Yorkshire. A fact you could. of figured out a while back. A car is composed of many fundemental particles if you really wanted to get down to it. But it's not people. Unlike Coldplay. You would say Jim, Bob, Dick n Harry are going to play at wembley, so why do they become one being when they are called "Coldplay"? My only theory is allows it to be impersonal. "Disembodied brand is pumping chemicals" instead of "Hundreds of workers and executives are pumping chemicals". Personally I'd be annoyed that American grammar dictates I lose individuality upon joining a group. And yes you're correct on Manchester, bad example as it would be "are" in both cases.
  15. But there's four members of Coldplay, and anything above one is plural. Without the members of Coldplay there is no Coldplay so it's not like it's wholly separate. Also it helps create a distinction too; Manchester is not having a good year. Manchester are not having a good year. One of them is referring to Manchester the place, of which there is only one. And the other to the football team, which is composed of glod knows how many people cos I don't know much about football but it's above 11 thus a plural.
  16. Woot. Library Wi-Fi. Just updated the hell out of my phone. Also annoyed that I can't get a downloadable version of Wordpress Codex.

I've one in black-grey of current PXOD. I'll have to make sure to knockout pngs of other layouts to upload next time I'm on wifi.

  17. It's certainly memorable. I'd check about for more, but it's not exactly a simple task atm.
  18. 11.11.11 For skyrim would be one off the top of my head.
  19. Yup. Friday is entertainment release date, get highest initial sales(assumedly due to folks/kids being off work/school). In fact I'm pretty sure most global releases are done on Friday as opposed to a Tuesday. I don't quite understand the logistics behind not doing a same day global release but I imagine there's some old fashioned tradition thing going on.
  20. Windows also likes to have 15% of a hard drive as freespace too. But yeah it's mainly an overestimate so you have enough space. I wish steam would give a download size though so I know how much/little it'll need. Though I know it's an issue with Source games as they download different amounts depending on which you already have installed.
  21. Can someone explain this "give up employment rights, get shares in company" thing to me. I don't understand what is meant to be good about it for the employee. I also want to know if/when I'd potentially signing a contract with those terms in.
  22. Voyager has supposedly left the Solar System.

  23. My housemate has been following the Kingdom of Loathing kickatarter. They've well surpassed goals so stretch goals means rhe game's several hundred cards strong now.
  24. Prometheus. It's neat and sparkly but it's at least three films crammed into one, and I'm pretty sure one of those films is an Alien film to please studio heads. The film crammed way too much stuff in, after a fairly slow start, to such a degree no one stops to ask what is going on. Except the ginger lass, Fassbender was neat albeit he was a 2-dimensional ridley scott Alien franchise android which means his plot points were telegraphed several decades ago.
