http://uk.wii.ign.co.../1217360p1.html "Nintendo Network" coming for Wii U and 3DS
-
He was pointing out that they didn't show anything with "oomph" when games with "oomph" exist already. And BF3 and Crysis 2 would show off oomph other consoles games don't have how? Yes I'm well aware the PC counterparts of these games are considered quite nice looking with their Direct X 11 effects and all that but just to get back to a previous point: The Wii U doesn't have Direct X anything, let alone DX11. Showing that it runs a game that also can be ran across 6 screens with tessellation out the eye balls doesn't really say anything about the Wii U any other multi-plat game would. Ethan said showing off footage from high end PC games. Then named two PS3/360 multi-plats. The Wii U third party segment was already full of plenty of console multi-plats. Having Crysis 2 and BF3 (Crysis 2 would be nearly 2 years old by the Wii U's release btw) wouldn't really show anything no other multi-plat would. Okay how about this one: Does it make PS3 and 360 look any awesome knowing that BF3 looks shit tons better on PC? It's a really stupid idea to try and market your console around the fact that you can get it looking a crap ton better (And earlier n cheaper) on PC.

Satirical/parodying type stuff. Taking the piss out of the games press, PR, marketing, games industry, gamers etc. But if you can manage it on a scale of The Onion where it can fool the casual passerby, all the better.
-
But which high end PC games? Witcher 2 is the only one that comes to mind of around that time, but as I said I don't see that coming to the Wii U. Pretty much any other games they'll be getting will be 360/PS3 multi-plat. e.g Darksiders, Ninja Gaiden, Metro:Last Light, Assasins Creed 3 etc. The only PC game they showed off was Ghost Recon Online and it's not exactly high end.
-
They're still PS3 and 360 games though. Wouldn't matter what they look like on PC or if they're DX11 or not (especially since Wii U doesn't run Direct X at all). In fact I can't really think of many high end PC games coming out the next year, and certainly not any that'd make the leap to Wii U. The only multi-plats that's gonna get for a while is PS3 and 360 ones.

So while sorting out my bookmarks I came across an old gem. Basically back in the early days we made a purposefully crappy spin-off of PXOD with the aim of sort of making a "The Onion" of gaming. http://thegoodbadgame.wordpress.com/ Since we were also doing PXOD at the time it never quite took off and only ever had a handful of posts. Since rediscovering it I've spruced it up a bit and wiped the old posts. I feel the new Mac theme is adequately tacky (as well as "lol macs have no games") So is anyone at all interested? It's all a bit of silliness, the more the merrier. As long as you can write and have a minor modicum of gaming knowledge it's all good.

@TME: That's my next Lovefilm game

http://pressxordie.com/2012/01/27/a-tour-of-steam-mobile-beta/ So I'm in, I did a screenshot tour of the thing and a few impressions and issues.

Which games would you suggest? I can't really see Witcher 2 heading towards the Wii U.

Not always, hence the need to highlight that segment of the forum post in blue.

We humans not being able to use those signals is why computers beat humans at driving cars safely. If we had the telepathic ability to know of each cars/drivers intentions there would be a lot less accidents. They'll also be running off GPS, which is a military system, bit harder to mess with. And no there's no meshnet in place, but when you've got automated cars with wireless communications up the wazoo, it'd be stupid not to place some kind of 999 type system in place for when say there's a car crash (accidents will happen) or the car has broken down or something. Yes I'm making some assumptions, but you're making just as many. Especially the one about there being no driver at all, as has been stated the cars still need a person behind the wheel, even if a computer is doing most of the driving.
-
But only the internal PC would be encrypted, the signals the car sends out to every other passing car won't be. And if it tries to fuck about with the signals it sends or uses an encrypted none authorised system the other cars in the vicinity would tattle tale on it and then you'd definitely draw attention to your car.

http://forums.steamgames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=28770251 just linking this. Also seems they realised people were confused on how you get in on the beta (they never really mentioned that part so well) cos it's now in bright blue n bold.
-
http://store.steampowered.com/mobile Requires you to be part of a closed beta (which from asking around it seems no one knows how you can put your name down to be in the beta which is a bit silly, but Valve have always sucked at press releases n shit like that)

Just make it so vehicles require a passenger. Also you'd have a vehicle with your location, or at least drop off point, included in it. Oh and you lose your stash too.

Yeah that's internet, like any kind. If you check the chart only 85million have broadband (which iirc is classed as 512kbps in the US), which is actually 27%(though this is 2010). Also it works on the basis that US=blueprint of rest of the world. By Microsofts own figures there's 66million 360s, and 40million XBL accounts http://uk.xbox360.ig.../1216177p1.html Which puts it at 2/3rds are net connected. And that's on the assumption all those XBL accounts are for Xbox(GFWL and Windows Phone use XBL accounts too), and one per console. And before you suggest not all net connected 360s might have a XBL account; what does one do with an Xbox online that doesn't have even a basic XBL account?
-
They'd need to make up for the loss of 20million or so people, and that works on the assumption that people that are offline are buying only used games, and people online are buying new.

I'm currently playing FFXIII with an eye in to complete it by the weekend. Unsure how much of a possibility that is (I'm off home on Friday evening for sisters 21st). I'm currently on Gran Pulse, I've done as many of the Ceith Stones as possible at the moment so heading off to Atmos and that Tower place (Then I'll be back to where I was on my first playthrough when I first bought it two years ago . Stupid university getting in the way of my game time )

I don't see it happening. 1. The current "Project $10" stuff has already had a few glitches for the relatively few games that use it. (mis-printed codes etc) 2. I reckon Online Pass stuff probably make a fair amount of cash as it is. 3. It's going to be a damn hard idea to sell on to customers. Kinect is a hard sell, but it's optional. This would be required. (And a hard sell to folks like Gamestop who you'd want ot stock and sell your H/W n games) How the hell do you stand up on stage and tell people in your "this is awesome" voice: "Your games will not be able to be traded in for extra cash, you will only be able to buy games at a fixed $60 cap, also we know there's not many demos these days, there will probbaly be less nextgen so you won't know if you've boughta dud. But hey, you can read the reviews to work that out. Right guys?" There's absolutely no way to sugar coat it for the customer unless you can also say "and because of this, it'll only cost you $30 RRP for new Xbox titles". Which we know won't happen, there's a few publishers already trying to push the PC RRP up to £40/$60 despite being no used market or console-like royalties to pay. And as has been pointed out with all the other negatives Xbox consoles come laden with, they don't want another one on top that gives Sony something to brag about the next day. Fuck they could just go "here's the PS4 prototype, and it lets you play used games!!" and then have Tretton dance around on stage for half an hour and it would still be the better console reveal. I know plenty who aren't getting an Xbox next gen anyway, this would just be a final nail in the coffin (especially for ben, he does tons of trading, enough so I go "can I borrow game X" and he's traded it in months ago for Gears3 or something :/. Which in case anyone is wondering is why I don't own a 360 but do own a few 360 games) 4. It's probably hit chasing with this kind of shock news.
-
They were showing off PS3 and 360 games in their "Third party support" because the PS4 and NeXbox aren't out yet. It has been stated to be a fair bit more oomph than the current gen stuff though, just no quantifiable amount atm.
