  1. I'm bummed that the loading screen tips only tell you of the "well-rested" perk going after you become a werewolf.
  2. That'd generally be the crux of the debate. They eat pretty much one food type, generally live solitary lives, a re black n white on a green background. Currently the only purpose of the Panda as a species is to be the butt of a dictionary joke.
  3. I was going to comment on that. That final paragraph seemed a bit of absurd scaremongering cos it's a fucking mammoth. We've aided in their extinction once, we can do it again. It's hardly like they can hide much. We're not cloning smallpox or something. Main reason we're cloning extinct animals is because they're extinct. "oh no, a dodo broke loose, quick before they spread across the world and...oh wait dogs still exist". Fuck, you know if pushed to it, I reckon say some alien species give us the ultimatum of wipe out all other animal life on earth within 10 years or face having the earth blown up I think we could actually do it. It's keeping them all alive that's the hard part. (I hear there's debate on just giving up on the panda, for example)
  4. http://www.destructoid.com/presenting-the-new-look-destructoid-reviews-format-217322.phtml#ext So ignoring that Ben Kuchera of Ars made this joke a week or so ago (And that whatever it is they've got on D'toid, I'm thinking ads, cripples the browser upon loading), I find it kinda sad that Jim is still going with this whole attempt at tongue n cheek with regards to his reviews when it's rather clear that they could just get rid of the numbers n voila. But of course can't do that cos if they don't have numbers metacritic can't list them.
  5. http://news.discovery.com/animals/woolly-mammoth-cloned-111205.html Russians now have pretty much all they need in order to clone a mammoth. So they're going to go ahead n hope to have one in 5 years.
  6. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.328868-EA-now-issuing-permanent-Origin-bans-through-content-filter?page=1 You need to click the first link for the original post. It's all pretty bad. Long n skinny is an automated system banned one dudes EA forum account (n therefore his Origin and seemingly EA-in-general accounts) because someone else called him a "NOOB B---- C---". As I said on twitter the main solution to this is basically to either not use EA's forum, or to not purchase EA games at all until their policy with regards to forum bans is clarified.

  9. Malacath has not smiled kindly upon Ugghra. First his people stage a coup and eject me from my own tribe. I head out, wandering Skyrim alone. I am old, I have lived a warriors life, I do not care if a frost troll was to jump me in the night. But unfortunately for me it was not a frost troll but in fact the imperial legion. They bound me and put me on a wagon with other prisoners. But the fun for Ugghra did not stop there. Despite committing no crime they decide to put me to the block, this is clearly the will of malakath, what did I do to forsake him? But my ill fortune was not to stop there. As my head was in the block a great dragon of legends swooped down and preceded to tear the town down to its foundations. I escaped the burning town and dragons wrath with an imperial soldier, he suggested I join up. Perhaps this is Malakaths will. Tear me down, show me death and challenge me to become a stronger orc. Many young orc have joined the imperial legion, I shall see what I make of them. After passing through Riverwood I arrive in Whiterun, A blacksmith at the front of the town points me in the direction of the Companions. An ancient clan of warriors, perhaps here I shall show Malakath my worth.

That's brilliant. Here I thought projection-mapped breakable Minecraft blocks were cool!

  11. Actually as he's pointed out several times before as the site has no adverts (and it's run on Tumblr, so not much need since: free hosting) traffic isn't really an incentive. It's a valid criticism on his part since it's a bit silly to make an article that's specifically for people without internet and two of them require it. A bit like when making an article on games to play on a netbook, it's usually a good idea to make sure they run on a netbook. In fact I don't think there's any PC games these days that don't require internet in some shape or form, either to buy or download, or to activate it. About the only one, as Paddon suggested on his twitter, is burning GOG games to disc for friends.
  12. So for those who don't follow him it seems the @GameJournos guy has has a new burst of activity on his GJAIF blog. One of them was about an article on Kotaku of "games to play with no internet". Only two PC titles listed actually require internet activation (Skyrim n Arkham City). I responded to GameJournos over twitter saying it's pretty slim chance that totillo has touched a PC game in months. Within less than a minute I had a response off Totilo stating he'd actually played a few yesterday*. Worth noting I didn't use the proper @person twitter thing. Just his name. Which means he's either got an eagle eye on gamejournos and any responses he gets, me (unlikely) or has some sort of alert system set-up for his name. Creepy. I use google alerts sure, but not for my name but for games n such. I should probably use it some more actually, pretty handy tool. *which doesn't really do much to refute it. For example had I said same thing of.. fahey the reply would be along lines of "nope. got plenty of hours under my belt on Skyrim" or a link to his steam account or something(but I wouldn't Fahey is clearly a PC gamer kinda guy). Just playing a few yesterday doesn't really say that he's been actively PC gaming for the past few months. Certainly doesn't dispute that he's probably never touched the two games he's recommended. In other news it seems I've been unblocked by at least one Kotaku writer
  13. But Xenoblade is already over.. oh wait, talking from US standpoint. Yeah try hoping to Europe for ya games. Xenoblade I think it one of the few times where we've come out fine. Region locking can become a huge pain. I'd say that's part of why the PS3 has done pretty well in Europe. Much like Excel my Demon Souls is also a US import. I'm to understand the Wii is region locked or the whole Xenoblade thing wouldn't have been as much an issue. Personally I've not bought anything from the US PS Store (not bought much off the EU one either ) but I can see why it would be a pain for folks who want a bit of everything. Steam also has region locking, but that doesn't apply to the Gift system thankfully.
  14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QWpiedIX7U In handy video form: why the FFVII remake could be shit. AKA these guys just made an FPS with a FFVII skin.
  15. We both know CoD is aimed at wide(i.e. casual) audience, so it's natural that the game is easy on those difficulties. But that was on a harder difficulty. Why is it natural that it's easy on Hardened? If you're playing Recruit, it's natural that it'd be easy, cos that's the easy mode. You shouldn't need to whack a game on up to the absolute hardest difficulty to get any degree of difficulty added at all. Yep it should be "an", it precedes a vowel.
  16. So is this actually a thing in the show?

Main reason I ask I guess is cos he hasn't really got anyone but his dad n sisters in US. I might give him some nudges over next few months, be cool if he had folks to hang with on arrival.

  18. Depends how much the specialist stores push hardware compared to other stores like Amazon or supermarkets that don't rely on selling games.
  19. Well as an example HL2 is pretty damn linear. He's certainly not asking for something like Just Cause. It's a corridor shooter, you're certainly going to go from A to B and that is expected. Last one I played was MW2, so don't really want to be saying too much, though I've certainly seen Black Ops and that is a good example of the difference between just being linear, and being a boat ride. If the game masturbates for 15 minutes something is deeply wrong. MW series has pretty much always been about showey set pieces and scripted events. Given the levels of absurdity MW2 took it too, MW3 going further wouldn't surprise me. (They even copied Team America so..errm..yeah)
  20. Sony, the company that usually adds 40% extra on top of RRP for digital goods is thinking about making it 40% less on the Vita? I'd take that with a grain of salt. (they may discount, but 40% is quite a bit.)
  21. Not sure why they should have just left it hanging, especially when the Kotaku AU thing was both pretty absurd and seemingly not responding to the RPS review at all but some generalised COD hate. For example as the K-AU piece ranted on about critics complaints of a lack of freedom, but as RPS rebutted he never said anything at all about a lack of freedom nor would he particularly want one in a COD title. tbh I think it may have being dropped had it not being for the "you played the game wrong" complaints too. which is what he did... edit: (I've also just noticed that Duke also mentioned the "because it's a linear corridor shooter") srsly second n third paragraph: (and so on so forth, cos it's not just limited to those two articles but..well the whole thing)

    Apple

Apparently bits of the OS on that are leaking into other projects, but ultimately it came down to Allard n whoever was head of Win 8 being brought to Gates office n having a chat as Ballmer was concerned. Basically Courier wouldn't be a device that you could install Office, IE, Live Apps, etc on so it just wasn't part of Microsoft's plan. I think I posted a good article about it up here a few months back. Aha! this seems to be it http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2011/11/killing-courier-the-right-decision-maybe-not-the-right-reasons.ars

  24. My Ben got the i5 2500K in his recent PC. Seems to be enjoying it despite his original want/need of an i7 (cos it's two numbers bigger). I showed him the benchmarks, saved him about £80 iirc. SSD I feel is still an "on the fence" kind of component. From those with them I've heard wonders, but it does come down to "if you're up for the price, the realisation it'll be getting cheaper all the time, and that they're a bit limited to just OS/games". Which is an issue for me cos I'd want to put my games on it, but a 250GB SSD is really fucking expensive. Which would mean to junctioning the steam folder and it's a tad fiddly.
