  1. It would never have been an issue if it wasn't for Kotaku AU decided to have a pick at small elements of the RPS review and completely miss the point. (even funnier that they commissioned an EDGE writer to do it too )
  2. before it ruins another joke (what's the difference between a tyre and 364 condoms?): Tyre = tire = the round, usually black, rubber thing with an inner-tube that helps your car gain traction on the road. Also it's good this is English only cos that tyre joke led to discussion that led to:
  3. I've really missed out on a lot of films this year. I don't even recognise 90% of them (and a few I do I swear are 2010) http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/the-most-powerful-photos-of-2011 "Most Powerful Photos of 2011". It has not been a good year. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/arts/celebrity-photos/ Funny celeb photo captions. Unsure if I've posted this before though.
  4. heh, don't need a quadro for video editing That's for CAD work anyway. Video editing primarily relies on the CPU anyway, however you can use a GPU, a gaming one, with CUDA for boosting video rendering. It's hardly an issue these days anyway, most modern CPUs can eat through the video you toss at them. Most in this case being HD, since he's just recording the screen, not messing with footage off a full blown cinema camera. It's RAM that's an issue with video editing these days. More RAM means more video footage in play than in the cache. I'm pretty much always going to recommend Nvidia these days, especially for work and play. Whatever you get now is something that should last at least 2 years until next gen kicks in on consoles. Harddrives are currently ridiculously expensive, so that'll eat a chunk of your budget. CPU wise I'm unsure on the current market, AMD got any decent gains lately? I'll be honest Sandy Bridge still vaguely confuses me, but seemed simple enough to put together despite the built in GPU. Basically you want to pick what CPU you want first, that'll dictate your motherboard. Motherboard choice dictates how much RAM you can have, and then you pick your GPU n PSU. Oh n have Tomshardware open on the side. Oh and a case, but cases are (apart from being ATX, and I assume full tower if you're going full out) can be much of whatever you want. I'd suggest not buying the ones with built in PSUs. Video Editing I like Premiere, but not enough to pay for it Dunno where you feel with that. Microphone I just use whatever is on my headset, oh except when I use the Guitar Hero mic which is actually not bad quality for just being a random gaming peripheral we only plugged in for a joke. http://www.tomshardw...ndation-54.html - could build off something like this if you're unsure on what to get.
  5. You should try reading the one he's responding to then
  6. There's nothing yet, which is bemusing as they pretty much stated the other day that while they're restricted in frequency of patches on console due to the certifaction process, they can patch whenever they feel like on PC. That was 4 days ago.
  7. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/03/ea-online-pass-can-expire-for-new-game-purchases-but-it-should/ *sigh*
  8. mash is just shorthand. But it's contextually understood to be mashed potatoes if say..on a menu.
  9. http://pressxordie.com/2011/12/02/roundtable-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/ Boom, roundtable. Shorter than the Deus Ex one, and I think we're slowly getting the formula down to pat.
  10. Chew part of the Secret Santa thing was that we had to update our wishlists (Though it seems some only recently updated them due to the wishlist giveaway happening right now. Which is handy cos my secret santee orignalyl had semi-expensive tastes in games) btw the Steam Xmas sale starts at the end of this. 10th December (maybe 11th, depends on what Steam uses for "in 10 days"). Either way plenty of time between 10th n 20th to pick stuff up in sales.
  11. A lot of the pronunciation issues boil down to the fact that when we stole all these words we'd write them down in reports and letters back home n such but we didn't tend to send along a native speaker too. So the words picked up a bit of how it would be sounded in English, or a bit of how it would be sounded in the original native tongue (if we knew much of it). Pronunciations would be a lot different if several hundred years ago we could send along an SD card full MP3s with the native sounding along with the various writings home.
  12. British food is very much dictated by its melting pot history, much like US. But different history and different people in the melting pot lead to us having tikka masala and you guys having soul food. British food is generally functional; be it for good grub working down the mines, something that'll last on a ship voyage, or maximizing left overs due to rationing. I'd certainly agree British food is not as fancy as you'd get in France n the like. Food has never really been regarded as an artform over here. At the least it's sustenance and the most it's a social gathering. Many of our dishes are things that can easily scale up to bulk depending on how many people are coming. Faffing about is not prized. If it comes out bland that's up to the cook. Stuff like a sunday roast over-boiling the vegetables can be an issue for example (though you can steam them instead). We have access to plenty of herbs, seasonings n spices so adding a bit of a punch is rarely an issue. For example if I'm making a bolognese I'll usually add a bit of everything for an added kick. (If cooking for others I stick to the usual garlic, basil etc)
  13. You didn't watch the video did you? (also I have no idea how to make into letters the sound S makes in leisure, hence "chj")
  14. I'd strongly suggest that at the very least everyone go to the Greybeards first time around. They complete one of your shouts as well as give you a new one that's very handy for dungeons. Also as I've mentioned before much like going to Kvatch turns on all the Oblivion gates (and going to Mythic Dawn shrine turns on even more), if you don't go to Whiterun (or at least don't speak to the Jarl) then you'll never turn on the dragons.
  15. I've got a bunch of soul-tap weapons throughout my time. Been generally smithing and enchanting at the same time. Smith items, enchant with petty n lesser soul gems. Usually a mix of 2% magicka regen rings, fire daggers with 5 charges etc.. Occasionally use my black star to craft something a bit stronger (mainly making higher level smithing/alchemy fortifying gear. Dunno if there's an enchanting fortifying skill. Is a potion though, can't make that yet though) When I'm maxed out on enchants gonna burn through my grand n black soul gems on the double enchants skill. Oh in other news last night I both started a new dude. An old warrior orc, happy to smash anything to bits should he get paid. I really enjoyed making an orc cos I have no pre-conceived notion of what looks weird unlike with making human-like faces. I say smash stuff to bits, my original aim of being a two handed dude have fallen a bit to the way side since I've found having a sword n sheild much nicer. Occasionally an axe (my axe of Whiterun has soul-tap this time around). My magic use is limited to defensive spells, like healing n wards, and the occasionally fury. Oh n flames for the oil patches I guess. I am struggling a bit to break out of using magic all the time though. Got to using a bow though. Oh this time I'm also siding with the Imperials. Also came across this bug which meant having to be executed a few times: http://steamcommunity.com/id/deanbmmv/screenshot/613844102340579746
  16. You say bay-zil, we say, ba-zil, You say lee-chjure, we say lie-chjur-e-ay. You say erbs, we say herbs. .
  17. https://twitter.com/#!/steven_moffat/status/142509085982601216 Woot. Yates was talking out his ass.
  18. If we want to do recipes then here's one Ursus-Veritas shared a while back http://www.nigella.c...nness-cake-3086* I passed it on to my mum and she's made it quite a few times. Very dense and moist, but so fucking gooood. It's getting rather popular at parties. I also have the recipe for "Grandmas Smiths Curry". My step-dads side of the family spent quite a bit of time in the middle-east (step-grandad was an army engineer) so got bit's of that. I've not made it yet because it has no measurements, which is sort of the point I guess. All she knows is what goes in it, not really any specific amounts. When you're making it for several decades I guess it doesn't matter. Also her taste buds are shot so I have a sneaking suspicion it has substantial more punch to it than it did when she first started making it. It's not spicy, just very..peanuty. Translation? *For Americans this is Nigella Lawson She once caused a goose fat shortage.
  19. Yep. Nolans Batman is a great film adaptation, but because of his kinda strict rules on being slightly more realistic many of the rouges gallery never show up and never will. Lazarus pits don't even get so much as a squeak in Batman Begins despite Ra's Al Ghul being in.
  20. I've heard it pronounced as "bay-ta", but I use bee-ta. It's greek anyway so... Melee is one. I say Mel-Ee. Tom and ben say may-lay. (turns out I was right). @FSD: If my memory isn't foggy Gerbil is Welsh. They don't have a dialect, they just make it up as they go along. Case in point: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
  21. owt = anything. For Ethan (It's shorter, twitter friendly) (oh n nowt is nothing)
  22. http://news.yahoo.co...-133707949.html Unsure which to put it in, probably more fitting here. edit: nope I'll put it here.
  23. Srsly, I don't think PS2 memory cards ever dropped below £19.99. For 8MB. The Vita might offer better graphics but so did the PSP and we all know how that turned out. Yep, the PSP sold 71 million units(and counting) becoming the 3rd, and give it 9 million more units and it grabs second, best selling handheld console of all time after the GBA and NDS. The PSP is pretty much the first handheld to seriously contest Nintendos handheld dominance in 3 generations (as an example the GameGear only ever sold 11 million units). Sure it hasn't sold 150million like the NDS, but 70million is by no means something to be snuffed at. The Gamecube and Xbox combined only ever did 50million sales in the face of the PS2s 100million+. If providing a higher powered alternative handheld to Nintendos offering hadn't worked out with the PSP do you really think they'd be releasing the Vita with the same draw?
  24. Isn't barbecue cooking over an open flame and therefore one of the oldest forms of cooking there is? Or is this one of those English versus English moments and it means something totally different in the US? Also had a look at this Crown & Anchors menu (do love it when pubs have websites, and PDF menus), it looks decent grub. Not all is traditional pub grub mind, but beyond your allergies what exactly was vomit inducing (apart from the prices, but that's London for you)? edit: Unless you went for Brunch. Just noticed they do a full English, and I know black pudding can be a major turn-off for folks with weak disposition towards food.
