Yeah, this whole "impending graduation" thing kind of has me distracted from writing for PXOD... Me too

Writing skills not really required. As long as it's comprehensible you're a-okay. Ability to commit: not much of an issue either( just ask Ethan ) Just so as to not put hopes up too high: Due to the time requirements on registration for things like PAX and E3 you're pretty much shit out of luck on this years stuff. For that I'm kinda sorry. Also as we generate no cash it would be on your own funds, all we can do in the deal is get you permission to poke developers n access non-public areas. Oh and I guess depending on what mood E3 is in that year: actually get you in in the first place. Edit: SL just reminded me: We're looking into maybe heading into video pieces. Like video reviews. So if you've got a decent voice, the equipment and ability to cut up video we'd be looking for that too. But that's kind of a "not too soon" sort of thing. Still figuring the whole video thing out.
  5. - Eurgh - my hands are tied - because I know something you don't. (well you do) - it makes me sad inside - and all a bit "rraarrgh" that I can't say. - ditto - so I'm kinda reading the DLC stuff popping up on sites - margle pargle aeighafslaas fblasuw (kinda translated from an earlier tweet)
  6. I SO hope that was an accident. You're going to be left pretty disappointed.

    Press X or Die

wow, we were looking at only 30,000 overall last time I posted? Holy shit that's a leap since. Anywho main reason I'm here: As some of you may know, alongside this place I run a gaming blog Press X or Die I've been kind of lax on it the past few months with uni work, as have a few others. I've mostly kept myself busy on the side with the TAY newsfeed. I finish in less than 3 weeks. At that point I'm going to be looking into working on it a fair bit more. I'm putting out an open invitation on folks who'd be up for signing up and writing with us. It's all pretty laid back, as it stand no intention of becoming a full blown news site. Also means no income or stuff like that. It would be a "on the side" hobby kind of thing. At the moment we've got a few guys on this forum already writing for the site in varying degrees. Dave is kind of on reviews duty to Hot heart with his monthly columns, and several guys in-between. (so any questions, they'd be worth asking) We mostly cover the smaller news. Pretty much anyone can read the top 10 games blogs and they're all generally facsimiles of each other on info. There's not much point copying that. We do cover "big news" now n then. Occasionally we're even breaking it. But for the most part, it's indie games, lesser covered aspects of games industry, original writing, etc. Always looking to expand in new ways though. Perks of writing on PXOD: - Press privileges. For the most part that means we get press release n screenshots but also means - Press access to events like PAX, E3, Gamescom, EG etc. Already got a couple guys signed up for Eurogamer. The time frame means pretty much everything but Gamescom this year is written off though. (normally need 6 months) - Review codes for games. This isn't "woot free games", we'd expect you to actually do half decent reviews. And as we're small this is mostly indie titles or stuff for XBLA/PSN/DSware. Looking to expand this summer though. - Potential opening on getting a job in games press if you're interested in going further with it. - You get a cool @pressxordie.com email address and decrpyter ring. Well you get the email address at least. So if you're at all interested shoot an email my way. I guess to keep it "professional" send em to deanbmmv@pressxordie.com If you just want write a single article now or then, you can also toss them our way. I'll try n get back ASAP, but for the most part not intending to start the ball rolling until about mid-may.
  9. On the lighter side of things: http://www.computerw...ci_researchers/ Innuendo identifying AI. Turns out it's pretty hard.
  10. I think it should definitely be up in time for the DLC

According to that website my old battle.net password would take 47 trillion years to crack

I win. One of my passwords (Haven't checked them all, though) will take 4 sextillion years.

Didn't help them much when someone got hold of their Twitter accounts.

  11. You never followed all that. They pretty much became DeadlyPremonitionoid.com for a while. Sterling was all over it. Considering the game is meant to be pretty crappy I think it was an experiment on his part to see how much a game site could sway the sales of a game.
  12. That's cos HL2 was made with the Source Engine. Portal 2 was made with the Source 2011 Engine. TF2 with the Source 2007 engine. And so on and so on. (most notable non-game update was Source 2010, released alongside Steam 2010. Added Mac OSX compatibility for both) They all get the updates(you ever noticed how once you have one Source engine game, the rest all seem to start their download at about 40% complete?), just it'll improve minor things like speed n such on older titles, whereas with titles actually made with the new engine in mind they can add things like the improved lighting, particle effects, and primarily in Portal 2's case, fluid simulation.
  13. Uplink because of recent events inspired me too. It's not bad, just got to know what tools do what.
  14. Oh. Yeah you don't miss too much. The 2005 series makes a few small references to the old, but with the time gap between the old n new it's its own beast. I'm a fan and I've only see a handful of the old stuff. Some of it is a bit too old. (well that and the BBC re-used the film on some of the really old ones so they're kinda gone forever. Huge bounty if you have copies of the reels)
  15. Not too much (though River Song would be even more of a mystery) But if you're wanting to get into it in as short as time as possible start with series 5( it's just started series 6) the one with Matt Smith starting and the new head writer/head honcho (Steven Moffat) It's a UK series, so they're only like 12-13 episodes a pop. About 2.5 American Series for all the new Doctor Who.
  16. Oh I'm aware of, and bored by, the trope. I just don't think "we were once protheans" is what will cut it here. Something will pop up though.
  17. They're shown in the game several times to be gangly with tentacle things for jaw/torsos. The ones on Ilos are therefore most likely "realistic" depictions not fertility statues. There's retcons, and then there's shitting all over the franchise with a really bad cliche and hack job retcons.
  18. Weren't Protheans like 8 foot tall, gangly, tentacle like features for a face/torso? In fact: It would take a fair bit for them to start to resemble us.
  19. Yeah a Prothean cache and eezo deposit. Developed the mass effect engines, found out charon was a relay and the rest as they say is history.
  20. All the Mount n Blade games are on sale. 80% off on older titles, 10% off on pre-order of the new one, or buy em as a bundle. Warband is meant to be perfectly fine on it's own stand alone so picked that one up. If I like it I might get Fire n Sword later on in another sale. Who knows.
  21. Closer to 10%, if it was as high as 25% there would be much more accommodation of left handed people. tbh the only reason I picked up new weapons was so I could sell them. When I go to a blacksmiths I'd sell my weapon in the spare slot. Never actually used them. Could just pay closer attention . My only dislike of potions is I wanted to make a bunch, but that'd mean taking up space on other stuff. Also I'd forget to use them sometimes. I've got enough that I probably can just go through the game constantly toxed up. Should start doing that.
