  1. Oh btw Witcher 2 is kinda semi planned for consoles. At the moment it seems mostly a "we've thought of it" rather than a "by end of 2011" kind of deal.
  2. Looks good. It is the "Battle of Hogwarts" so I'd expect it to be a bit action packed. I'm wanting to see the Bellatrix vs Molly battle. While I've told my little sister Harry dies I've kept it from her why them two fight. Should be some good popcorn flick stuff. And as it's post-conversion I probably won't go n see it in 3D. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyaIpjLMEd4 New trailer*. Probably worth making an X-Men thread actually. *Yes it's a new trailer. Just the same effing start that meant when linked to a new trailer the other day I closed it not long after it started.
  3. What, you kidding me right? Sony were gagging for this or they wouldn't have sued Geohot. (eurgh wish I could punch anyone with that stupid theory) As for the onslaught of "news" on this, hey guess who has to swim through em all to update the TAY newsfeed srsly about 1/5+ of all articles yesterday was PSN related. CC is encrypted, so that's cool. Everything else doesn't really matter since different passwords and it's not like my home address is completely unknown.
  4. X64? I assume you meant X86? Which I strongly doubt. The wrong kind of architecture for consoles. They'll be on PowerPC n the like for a while. OpenGL still working well for them and everyone else who isn't MS. Free too. I also doubt MS will even license that one out. Means they have to support another platform. Even if they get paid for it, it's not worth it. And the tactic of keeping out blu-ray in favour of zune movies is if the market for zune movies is big enough to cover the devs hating on you forever for sticking with DVD(cos I strongly doubt MS will go the propriety route.)
  5. I think he's meaning about using keyboard hot keys. The wheel isn't a terribly horribly interface o PC, but keyboard shortcuts are king
  6. Wait, whatnow? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_(film)
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMUjrlYwE70 Oh on the numbers it supposedly did really well in America. It's kinda the same with Primaeval I guess.
  8. #imadeaQIthreadonoldplaceithoughtitmightbeobviousifollowhim, #darling In other news if you're not following (2.5million can't be wrong) http://twitter.com/stephenfry
  9. About 10-15 years after their DVD patent expiring n about 30 years after their CD patent expiring. I never understood why it took until this gen for it to become a sticking point that it was Sony* who owned the tech used for the discs. I'd guess the HD-DVD. But that was a rivalry with Toshiba, nothing at all with MS** n Nintendo. Not like MS don't license part of it out so that their OS can work with blu-ray discs. p.s did no one raise an eyebrow this week to "Father of the CD, ex Sony CEO passes away" headlines? *Sony n Phillips to be more accurate. **MS did have thier hands in the DVD format though. They and other tech companies boycotted the multiple proto-DVD formats.
  10. So some more detailed info is heading out, also via the scene. Still relating it to the Rebug thing. (Oh yeah this threads newsih, catch up here: http://pressxordie.com/2011/04/25/rumour-sony-psn-downtime-a-reaction-to-cfw/) So apparently what it allowed was, apart from the whole piracy thing by crediting accounts with infinite cash, you could use it to log in as anyone else. Just needed to know their PSN ID. Which means the amount of compromised accounts is probably much much much lower than the full 70million. And apparently while they could spend your cash on the PS Store, they can only see a small part of your CC, same as when you go to other places that store your CC then display as: 42** **** **** **69. Which kinda fits. As I've said many times, if you had a file with 70million accounts on it downloaded off your servers you wouldn't be all "we believe" n "may". You'd fucking know. But if a few hundred, thousand at tops, accounts were compromised then they'd be kinda doubtful on which accounts those were.
  11. Well consoles are at 50million each, Steam is 30million+ on it's own. It's not massively behind just taking steam into account. New Vegas is only full price title I've picked up at launch on a digital service btw. Everything else is either £20 or less (normally less than £10) or/and on sale. I'd be just as wary of a download only console. Especially as I have no idea how safe that would be. At least with PC I know I can usually rip titles, easily pirate and back up my games. With a console unless it comes with a blu-ray burner and is easily hacked to allow pirated copies after it's time has passed, how do I have any assurances? So even as someone pretty happy to download most titles on PC and pretty pro-streaming games, I'm wary of console downloads. That's something they need to fix next gen.
  12. Err dunno on that one.
  13. Yeah. You're no longer needed, but not really done anything bad enough to be fired. So you're redundant instead.
  14. A TB drive at the moment (3.5" mind) is about £40, so I think 1TB isn't out of the question.
  15. If they went for a cart it's be laptop HDD sized. Same as the older carts. Or it would be insanely expensive but smaller. A 32GB SDHC card, to be on par with a basic blu-ray in capacity, costs £40 a pop. So does a brand new game. The expense of the medium pretty much writes off the idea. Especially when £1 or so nets you a blu-ray disc. Flash would be faster, but not fast enough to justify 40X the cost.
  16. Oh yeah if a single 8th gen consoles comes out with a DVD drive.... Blu-Ray or bust.
  17. No it's the 360 that runs 512MB of system RAM shared with the GPU. The PS3 has 256MB of System RAM n 256MB of VRAM. Next gen will need at least 1GB to the GPU alone to match current PC. That's also when you'll get to see the bigger textures. 1GB for the GPU, 4-8GB for the system.
  18. Aye, I doubt it's greed or anything. I just think it was completely retarded.
  19. As if to do the complete opposite of Sony every step of the way, MS have unbanned banned consoles.

But timed alongside a letting a bunch of banned consoles back online is kinda showing why they banned em in the first place.

There's been more info released on that: the consoles were only "unbanned" for like half an hour, and during that time though they could connect to XBL they couldn't get anything from the marketplace, download game updates, or play online. Then they were rebanned.

So just terribad coincidence on the phishing thing.

  20. tbh as far as I'm concerned I'm feeling pretty safe. At the moment it's all just "maybe" and "we believe" if it was absolutely guaranteed that someone had nabbed the stuff they'd be required to say "your info has been taken" or something along those lines. It just reads like they're giving a heads up just in case. We're talking 70million accounts, you'd generally know for sure if that much info had been grabbed. Even if it's a small amount that's gabbed I reckon only a few will be tied to CCs. And if your bank is halfway decent it'll have some kind of fraud protection. In which case a dodgy charge gets flagged, you get called. And if it's not you a new card gets issued. As for getting stuff out of it, yeah I reckon PSN+ will get a free month. But everyone else will get zilch and shouldn't really expect much from this either. edit: Well here in the UK the ICO (Information Commissioners Office, not the studio ) are looking into it for breach of the DPA. I'm going to assume, but tbh I'm slightly doubtful, that the US has similar stuff in place? The final principle pretty much requires you do mind.

Yeah the Challange maps (apart from the Vietnam n caverns/marsh thing which I think should be under campaign instead) are wave style in an arena. Fight off as many waves as you can. It's pretty fun.
  22. Well I've never played the others 'cept one so not much comparison I guess. I know one of them looked crap....Vice City I think.
  23. How would they know who you are and what games you've bought? As for "accessible" it's not like they just left them on the back of a taxi or something. Required running CFW to get it to think your PS3 was a dev console, then using proxies n shiz to get onto the dev PSN, then grabbing the details through that. It's a pretty shitty situation all around (though as I pointed out on twitter if folks were uber serious on keeping their CC info safe it's not like Sony don't sell PSN cards) but tbh I don't think much will come of it. It's not even a sure fire thing that the info has been leaked. Or who to. Just that they were compromised so it's a possibility. If you're not 100% sure that in a breach none of the data has been accessed then it's just to standard procedure to inform your users.
