  1. I'm 99.9% sure there is no god (from any of the religions*), which I'd wager is maybe more than you are sure there is a god. It's a bit of a cop-out that there's this loophole that says god doesn't have to prove his existence. If Atheists were omniscient, well most scientist are atheists, you'd think they wouldn't need to carry on if they knew everything. On a scale of 1 to a 100 on things I believe in "We are in the matrix" ranks slightly higher than "there is a god". It's a concept that just doesn't fit with everything I know. For me to change my mind on the matter I'd need a guy to come down from the sky in a beam of light shake my hand declaring himself to be god, then yank one of my ribs out and turn it into a woman before my eyes. You don't have to be Christian to have those values though. Though from what I've gathered of how atheism is viewed in US it does seem like it's assumed if you're atheism you're all up for a life of sin and wrong doing. @WTF: Yeah I think an issue is extremists on both sides. I'm certainly more atheist than anti-theist(religion does have it's place) but I am anti-religion when it's used as a tool for oppression or to rationalize inhuman acts. e.g "God hates fags" (which I'm pretty sure the..6/7th commandment says you're not allowed to say that). Though I'm sure many other christians are against that kind of stuff too. But that goes to the interpretation stuff. And why even when following the same book you have multiple segments of Christianity. People just kind of adapt it to what suits them. It's why I'm non-religious. I can just go my own route, not having to stick to either some denominations interpretation of the bible or explain why I have my own particular viewpoints on it. *I wish the greek religions were still around. They had some kick ass gods.
  2. And I think we have a winner. The Homefront Multiplayer code thing to let you level past lvl5 is on the PS Store as of, I assume*, a couple weeks back. Homefront isn't out for another week. *is it me or is the store no longer in reverse chronological order?
  3. Well that explains a bit. I thought it was some pun. Like Lanoire meant something, or there was something to do with LA or whatever. I was like "nobody seems to have brought up the spelling, I guess it means something. I'll stay quite for now. 'open your mouth n remove all doubt' kinda thing". Because what it actually means is: The Black Angels (If you smash your French and Spanish together) Or Black L.A (If you don't) Which I guess kind of works. But I bet that wasn't what they were going for since it seems like it is most definitely rooting itself in the Film Noir genre.
  4. Some PC's can pump out enough juice. When I use my drive on my main PC, runs okay, PS3 needs both cables. (though putting in both cables on PC does improve things too. More power to get spinning)
  5. I remember on Kotaku a while back Gamers Gate was mentioned and it was pretty much blank faces from everyone on who the hell they were. And there's like some guy who is all "You've heard of Steam but not Gamers Gate? What crazy world are you living in?" Supposedly they're the second largest after steam, bt I'd of gone Steam>>>(for way too long)>>>D2D>GFW>Impulse>(Greenmangaming/GoG/Gamersgate) At a guess.
  6. Does the blowing stuff up blow? Oh and I'll kinda agree with you on the shooting, it's got the most obvious assisted aiming of any game I've played. But since I was using a 360 pad on the PC version I left it be. As I said, it's a game you play in bursts of a couple hours, dossing about and terrorizing the locals and military.

I doubt it. As it stands Do Not Track is pretty much just a ..placebo is the wrong word... Dummy button. Mozilla went "It'd be neat if this feature existed". They need all the guys reliant on tracking your data to agree it's a neat idea too. that's not my word that their's: https://wiki.mozilla..._DoNotTrack_FAQ Google have a similar solution, but since they not only make the browser but the tracking cookies too they have the edge for now with a system that actually works. http://www.networkad...ing/opt_out.asp (It uses that list there basically) And since the Chrome/NIA version is up and running and more than just hopes and dreams I have a feeling that'd be the path EU would most likely take. From a government viewpoint it's certainly the much easier route. If companies are already self-complying with the NIA opt-out list, then it makes sense to let them continue with that then force then to sign up to Mozillas list too.
  8. What did you assume the 2nd cable was for?
  9. Yeah I know our laws are based on the original 10 commandments, but it's nothing much special. Every religion and general common sense is well aware murder, theft and rape are wrong. We could of been a pagan nation still and still have laws that are pretty similar. What's important though is that we've changed the laws and gone with the times regardless of what the bible says. The National Curriculum teaches the bible as one of the holy books of the many global religions, and that the universe started billions of years ago in a big bang and millions of years ago some fish swam out the ocean. (and then the one eyed monkey...) Our laws do not absolutely prohibit the union of gay couples, they allow for abortion, they even seem kind of okay on euthanasia as long as you do it somewhere else (and give it...~two decades, we'll be okay with it here too). It's late and I can't think of much where the two have clashed much on recent stuff but those would be the big ones where christian values and English law collide a bit. And having the Queen as head of CofE is a nice bonus I think. Henry VIII making CofE to divorce his wife was kind of the start to going "you know what, we don't have to follow this to the letter in regards to the law". And even if Elizabeth II was hugely relgiious and disagreed with stuff on the basis of her religious views she can't do much. She's a figure head. As you said she's the one "who must ratify every law passed". Her political power is about zilch. It's pretty much just by tradition these days. We had a civil war to make it that way.
  10. It's essentially a marriage. Just a small civil ceremony, dunno where the term comes from but it's at a "reception". Normally a smaller (and certainly cheaper) affair, held in some council building or similar. Civil Partnership (at the moment) is for same sex couples only. As I said we've discussed this before: http://tay.gappoi.or...the-gay-thread/ edit: but in the old place I now notice

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12668552 Supposedly an EU Directive is coming into force in a few months that will dictate cookie use. Not sure if it will be good or bad, since as the article points out many folks may soon be getting an increase in pop-ups n such asking if a site can track them or store cookies and such. Facebooks reaction will be interesting since many folks use it as their gateway to the internet, but they also have their fingers in many pies across the net tracking your likes and visits across the net.
  12. Although they have been revised somewhat, our laws are in fact very much dictated by The Bible and Christian law. Thanks to the good book, for example, same-sex marriage is still not legal in the UK. But marriage is a religious act, so that would be the gov't stepping out of it's jurisdiction a bit to force vicars to marry gay couples against their religions teachings. Civil Partnership, as we've discussed in the past, is the same laws and rights as regular old marriage, just with the difference that they can't do it in a church and it's not called marriage.
  13. Oh yeah the new UDK 2011 is out today isn't it?

      I have 4 sisters. She's the eldest.

  15. Not always just that. I have a portable drive where the HDD has a mini-USB on it, but the cable splits off to 2 USB plugs with the second dummy plug used for additional power.
  16. It's the voting that's generally the more public bit though. You find it bad, I find the outcomes acceptable. We'll agree to disagree Ooh Pascal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4AXOmPZ6fo
  17. And now for the interlude @TFG: For where it mostly matters though religion is generally kept out of it. So I'm happy with that.
  18. http://www.pcauthori...ut-of-date.aspx I may be biased, but I somewhat agree. In the past year or so I've seen quite a few more folks taking an eye in PC gaming, and with motion controls and such folks kind of losing interest in consoles. Personally I think the article may be leaning a bit too much on the assumption that the technical capability of engines on PC would be enough to draw developers over. But there's definitely something there. He also missed out id tech 5 which I believe is due this year too. Oh yeah this too: http://www.gamasutra...he_PC_Space.php
  19. See I'm all for happiness and such in life. I don't think that religion is the be all and end all to acquiring that. Just one amongst many ways. Folks just kind of find something that works for them. And it's not like being religious guarantees happiness either. You just have to find that balance in yourself on what makes you happy and strive for that. If the prospect of eternal life in heaven makes you happy, then go for it. Unrelated: one pet peeve of mine is folks who don't know the three Abrahamic religions. I don't know if it's crappy RE teaching, ignorance or wilfully choosing to ignore it. But yeah, it's kinda crappy when folks dig on Islam and not realise Christianty, Judaism and Islam are sister religions and all follow the same dude in the sky.
  20. Ethan I think you're maybe bolding that because you're reading that the wrong way around. It's saying folks outside the US are pretty well aware the bible is a metaphorical allegory on how to live your life n such, not something that goes in the library with a "900" sticker on the spine. He's not saying that all folks in the US regard it as such, just that pretty much all folks out the US don't. Personally I'm an Atheist CofE Christian. That's mostly cos as far as my mum is concerned not believing in god and been a Christian aren't mutually exclusive things. I'm not really up for arguing with her on the matter. I can see her point of view. (I was christened, I'm down on many forms as christian, I've been to chruch etc. I even own a bible...somewhere). It's not like she's much religious herself. I reckon if questioned on the matter she's probably agnostic. Religion has certainly never been a huge part of my life. I think my gran on my dads side is the only one who goes to church semi-regularly. For the rest of us it's weddings, christenings and funerals (never been to a funeral myself though). Religion is just a thing going on in the background. I'd imagine it's similar for hot heart n the rest too. I'd say most folks don't follow the bible as fact, more as something that starts genesis with "once upon a time...". I just don't know if UK Christians are not doing it right, or the 80% of folks who tick the Christian box are illiterate. Or if it's the reverse and US Christians are a bit OTT. Just cos they seems so different to be in the same religion. Wikipedia says it best: "According to the 2001 UK census, Christianity is the major religion, followed by Islam, Hinduism, Jediism, Sikhism, Judaism and Buddhism in terms of number of adherents. Though each country that makes up the UK has a long tradition of Christianity that pre-dates the UK itself, in practice all have relatively low levels of religious observance and today are secular societies." Basically we just go through the motions of Christianity. Like Shrove Tuesday yesterday, Ash Wednesday today. We have Easter weekend, we go to weddings, we do christenings, etc. But folks don't really follow the religion itself or much give a rats arse about it. You're Christian? Good for you. Jew? well done. Muslim? How'd you do. If you have faith, if you've found a way of life that works for you, then that's great. I think we all kind of look for a guide book to life, some write our own and others go through the pre-made ones. I certainly respect that people can have blind faith, especially in this day and age. Though I'll never respect people preaching their religion of choice. And that includes atheism (as mason found out...) I'm rather happy with out current level of Christianity in the UK. Folks generally follow through with the morals n stuff, and we get nice festivals each year n weddings and such to go to. But it's not too big that the contents of the thousand+ year old bible dictates our laws n such. Oh and my dad loves me very much. Just so we've got that clear. edit: and it turns out folks posted some more. @Hotchops That "In god we trust" and "One Nation under God" stuff still amuses me to this day. That we're the nation who made our own christian chruch, and you're the nation with the specific bit in the constitution saying church n gov't shouldn't cross. Yet we're the nation with Darwin on our money and you guys have "In God We Trust". As for the rest of your post. One of those green tickers is me.
  21. I've only played the demo. Didn't seem like it was up to much to me. I'd wager it's good for £5, but only if you're itching for something to fill in some hours.

  23. I guess that before you even open your mouth it's assumed that you have a stick up your butt and your father didn't love you doesn't really help smooth things along. Anywho I'm at the moment about to head out for a bit so I'll just leave with this since it's pretty close to how I feel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0123R6vjIoE edit: Also people who've been with TAY for a while will also know that me heading out isn't entirely coincidental....
  24. It's not coming to UK either.
