  1. Monster Hunter Rise demo is out on the Switch. It's pretty good. As far as I can tell it's carried over the QoL stuff from MHW. We're not going back to the clunky old mechanics anymore.

Is it as grindy as MHW?

The demo was just a tutorial and two hunts so I really can't say how grindy it ultimately ends up being.

  2. I don't care what the calendar says. 2021 doesn't start until Biden is sworn in.
  3. Schumer will take over as majority leader. Since Harris is the tiebreaking vote that effectively means Schumer now controls the Senate. About fucking time McConnell went down.
  4. I only downloaded Shadow of War to test out the HDR on my tv but I forgot how much fun that game is, especially now with all the pay2win bullcrap removed.
  5. I tried to boot up Cyberpunk again to test the HDR on my new TV and it looked like crap. At first I was afraid that maybe my settings were messed up somehow or I had a bad cable or something but then I tried playing Shadow of War and that looks much better so it seems even the HDR is broken in this game. Good lord.
  6. RIP Doom. 2020 just had to take one more thing away.
  7. Now if only I could find one of the damn things.
  8. Soul I wasn't originally that interested in this movie but they put it up on Disney+ for no extra charge and I figured what the hell, I'm stuck inside anyway so why not check it out? This one really took me by surprise and it wasn't at all what I expected. It's funny, it's touching, it's imaginative, and it's surprisingly deep and thought provoking for a family film. I might not put it on the S tier with the likes of Wall-E and Toy Story 3 but it's a very solid A-tier movie with a good message that I think will honestly resonate more with adult viewers than with kids. I think it's a film that everyone should see at least once, especially after this shit year that was 2020. Who knows, it might even give you some fresh perspective. Also, the short that was supposed to precede this movie in theaters, Burrow, was uploaded separately so I watched that too so I could have the full experience. It's downright adorable and beautifully drawn and animated. It's become one of my favorites from the studio.
  9. It's worth mentioning that the TV I was using before was made in 2013. Even if there are diminishing returns, it's still such a massive upgrade that I'm more than happy with what I've got.
  10. Wonder Woman 1984 This one was a mixed bag. I read somewhere that it's become the lowest rated DC movie with audience members but I don't think that's fair. This movie has some big problems but it's nowhere near being the absolute pile of shit that Batman v Superman or Justice League is. There are things in here that I enjoyed. Pedro Pascal as Max Lord was a pretty interesting villain to watch and so was Kristen Wiig as Cheetah, but I might be biased because I already love Pascal and Wiig, not to mention I'm a sucker for the Faustian Deal trope. They both do a good job, though. I have to say that Diana was by far the worst part of her own movie, and I'm pretty sure I felt this way about the first one too. I don't know what they can do to salvage her character but it's a problem when the main character is what drags everything down. A huge chunk of the film's runtime is devoted to Diana's love life, and even though it ties into the main plot I JUST DON'T GIVE A FUCK. This movie is too long and they should have cut off at least 20 minutes. The special effects are definitely not on Marvel's level either and for a superhero movie there is not a lot of action. The villains are what salvaged this film for me which feels weird because Diana herself is kind of a selfish, unlikable bitch who spends way too much time whining about how she isn't happy without her man. Does that sound like Wonder Woman to you? It also doesn't help that Gal Gadot has all the charisma of a brick in pretty much every movie she's in. Plus, there's one really unfortunate implication that the film never even acknowledges... If you have HBO Max or a free trial like I did then it's worth watching once, I suppose, but don't pay to see it in a theater. Oh, and despite what people say Maxwell Lord is not a Trump expy. Max actually has an ounce of humanity in his character so he can't be.
  11. I've wanted a 4K TV for a while but I don't have a lot of space and until now nobody has ever made one in a 32-in size, which is nuts. I've heard people claim that you can't tell the difference with a screen that size but I am telling you now that's a load of crap. The picture on this thing is amazing.
  12. Friendship ended with Cyberpunk 2077. Now Crash Bandicoot 4 is my best friend.

  13. Three crashes in my last session, which was only about two hours long. I hate to have to do it but I think I'm gonna have to put this down until 1.07 comes out. The only reason I don't return it is because the PS5 upgrade will be free.
  14. Geez, even on PS5? CDPR better put out some free DLC or something to make up for this shitshow. There's a good game buried under this mess but this whole thing has severely tarnished their reputation in my eyes.
  15. I was in Act 1 when I made the post before. Act 2 now.
  16. Aaaand it's also broken the console version even more somehow. Allegedly it's suppose to fix the crashing, and I admit I have not crashed yet, but it seems to have come at the cost of...well, everything else. My performance in the last session was noticeably worse than the one before it. Edit: Never mind, I just crashed. Way to suck, CDPR.
  17. Got the remaster at a discount because I bought the original version.
  18. Yeah I had a Best Buy thing for $10 that expired in a month which was why I decided to just go ahead and do it now but that's a good idea.
  19. Played roughly 4 hours so far. I turned off all that motion blur and film grain and other shit I never liked to begin with and at least so far the performance is...adequate. There is still some texture pop-in, mostly with cars, and I had one crash at the end of my session. I haven't had any significant frame drops so far, although I can tell this is a game that really begs to be played in 60 FPS. I can't explain it but it just feels like it's designed around that extra smoothness. The biggest issue I'm having is that the camera change while driving takes several seconds to take effect. More patches are definitely needed, but for the moment I can say that it is playable.
  20. So, uh, KFC wants to make a console. Yes, as in the fried chicken joint. They even want a spot in it to heat up your chicken. This is apparently not a joke.
  21. Nope. Not gonna be able to get a PS5 until they're back in stock. I could wait, in theory, but fuck it. I'm gonna give it a chance and see if patch 1.05 made it tolerable. If not I'll just hold on to it until I can get a PS5. I can always replay it on another route. I'll probably be posting my experiences in this thread since, if I'm not mistaken, I'm the only person here playing the PS4 version on a base PS4 console. Worst case scenario, maybe my rage will be amusing. But I'm hoping it's at least playable now.
  22. My PS4 copy is supposed to finally arrive today. TWELVE DAYS LATE. Pray for me.
  23. Yeah fuck the shareholders too.
  24. Here's one article about how publishers will wine and dine reviewers before they review their game. https://www.cinemablend.com/games/Publisher-Admits-Game-Review-Scores-Heavily-Influenced-By-Trips-Parties-Swag-48395.html There was also the Jeff Gerstmann scandal if you remember that, where he got fired from Gamespot for giving a bad review to Kane and Lynch and Sony threatened to pull their advertising over it. Eidos may not have been directly responsible but it was still a huge controversy back in the day. I don't really remember which specific videos he says it on because there are so many but Angry Joe has repeatedly mentioned being blacklisted by certain companies after he shat on their game or made videos calling out their anti-consumer practices. Jim Sterling did a video on the topic at least once.
  25. They absolutely deserve to be sued but it always pisses me off to be reminded that shareholders are the only ones who can ever actually force these companies to do anything.
