  1. Bought with my GMG credit, which I got from Playfire rewards, so essentially for free. I've had like 36 bucks of credit accumulated since early in the summer and every single game I've planned to use it on so far has ended up not being available on GMG. Latest example would be Wasteland 2. Officially out of early access today but still nowhere to be seen on their website. I'd been meaning to use it on a bigger purchase but fuck it, no point holding onto that credit forever. I'm kinda tempted to also get FFIV but I think I'll stick with the old school 2D version I have on my Vita for now.
  2. Lol. It looks fucking identical based on this. Wonder what they're gaining by skipping PS3. Oh well, hopefully that means a Vita version will still be possible.
  3. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. Finished it late last night. I had often heard that it was significantly better than the original so I was really looking forward to playing it. Now, I kinda feel like that was a massive exaggeration. It's certainly not inferior to the original but I'm still not sure whether I liked it more or the same. I figured letting it sink in overnight might help but I'm still not sure either way. It's clearly superior in a few key areas but it's also kinda worse in others. Some of the characters didn't seem as interesting or memorable to me. Maybe the original benefits from being my introduction to the game's world but I dunno, it just seems like its cast was more interesting overall. Then there's the class trial minigames. I started typing specifics but it quickly devolved into a long rant that probably would've made no fucking sense whatsoever to anyone that hasn't played the game. So let's leave it at: a couple of them were improved, most of them were either bad additions or existing ones made worse. It doesn't get much more ironic than calling a minigame "The (Improved) ________" only for it to be unarguably worse than the original version. All that being said, where the game really does shine is, much like the original, the story. The murders were all pretty interesting and the methods and culprits were much less predictable than in the first game. I don't think I was able to guess one outright a single time, I'd usually only figure out the killer's identity at the same time as the characters, at the very end of their deduction. That was a nice improvement compared to the original where halfway through a class trial I'd usually just go "oh, yeah okay, that's what happened" and I'd rarely be wrong. And then there's Chapter 6. Holy shit, that felt like it came out of fucking nowhere. The original had a pretty cool twist at the end but it felt more organic, a natural conclusion to the game's story. This one has a complete and utter mind fuck instead. Until the very end of Chapter 5 when the game threw all pretense out the window and was pretty blatant about it, I never could've possibly seen this coming. I'm sure there were hints throughout the game but I'd have to replay the whole thing to be sure. But what's important here is that it actually resolved everything in what I thought was a very satisfying manner. So, as someone that loves weird twists, I think the ultimate resolution here was more interesting than in the original. So yeah, overall the game was at least as good as the original. Possibly better but that will probably depend on your own preferences. Oh and Now hurry the fuck up NISA and announce that you're localizing that weird third-person survival-horror shooter spin-off. I need it ASAP. Preferably inside of me.
  4. Agreed. At the very least not in a mainline entry, yeah. I would be fine with an action-RPG spin-off like Versus XIII originally was. But now that it's become FFXV I kinda hope they reworked it to be turn-based in some way. Wouldn't feel right otherwise.
  5. FF has had active time battles since like.. FFIV? FFXIII was turn-based, don't know about the sequels but I would assume them as well. Wasn't Versus XIII initially supposed to be some kind of action-RPG similar to Kingdom Hearts, though? I wonder if that's still the case, that trailer certainly didn't look turn-based. Then again, FFXIII didn't really either when you looked at it in action. Might just be an evolution of that, making turn-based look as real-time as possible.
  6. Well how about that. Final Fantasy XIII on Steam. Better late than never, I suppose. I'll probably double dip, if only in anticipation of the sequels/to support future FF releases on Steam.

IX is pretty much the odd duck out with regards to PC ports. Makes me sad...

Also XIII for $16? That isn't bad but then again it is XIII.

Only Steam? I would much rather prefer DRM-Free.

  7. Yeah, 100$ isn't much more than I paid for my 32GB. Might have to think about upgrading soon, just not sure what I'd do with my 32GB.
  8. Last week!? Man, mine has been full for months. I keep having to delete stuff whether because of PS+ or just regular purchases. And keep in mind I always go physical when it's an option. I really need to get me one of those 64GBs. Where did you get yours Cowboy?
  9. I guess I forgot to post it when I bought it but I just "beat" Hexcells Infinite. It just showed up on Steam out of nowhere and it was a no-brainer for me because I really loved the first two games. They're really neat if you like logic puzzles. Anyway, "beat" in quotes because, although this one has the same amount of handmade puzzles as the previous games, it also has a random puzzle generator. So, that's pretty cool. I'll probably be playing this one on and off for a while.
  10. Yeah, I'm also a big RE5 fan, pretty sure I platinum'd the PS3 version. I thought it was similar enough to RE4, just nowhere near as good. Regardless of how successful it was at being Resident Evil, I'd still call RE5 a solid game. RE6 on the other hand, what little I've played of it seemed a bit shit.
  11. Capcom finally confirmed this week that they'll be patching out GFWL and moving the game to Steamworks (along with Dead Rising 2 + Off The Record!) so I was just waiting for a sale to grab it. It was a pretty short wait, I guess this was deliberate timing on the announcement. I really hope they'll take the opportunity to finally port the DLC episodes to PC while they're working on the game again. I never got the chance to play them on PS3 and I'm not sure if I even still have my copy of the game. And even if I do, I'm not really interested in buying DLC on a system I'll soon be replacing.
  12. Ugh, it's hard to concentrate on my economy readings when this is pretty much playing on a loop in my head.

Playing just a little bit couldn't possibly hurt...

  13. Well, if not cheaper then very close. I know I came close to pulling the trigger a few times and it had to have been under 15$ for me to even consider it. Yeah, according to Enhanced Steam the lowest it's been was 10.19$ a few months ago.
  14. Grabbed the Humble Bundle 12. It's a solid bundle but I already owned all the base games except for Hammerwatch (only had Luftrausers on Vita, though) but the main reason I got it was for Prison Architect at the 10$ tier. Been wanting it for a while and I'm sure it's already been on sale on Steam for cheaper but there was always something keeping me from going for it. Hopefully the bonus games won't be stuff I already own.
  15. For some reason, I thought this was confirmed to be coming out around February or March. But June? Was it delayed again or did I dream up that Feb/Mar thing?
  16. Not at all. Unlike Max Payne 2, it's not really a direct sequel. His wife and kid died. That's pretty much all you need to know going into 3.
  17. From what I understand, Persona Q is made by the Etrian Odyssey team but still has Persona team people in key lead positions such as character design, music, etc. And having recently played Nocturne, I can vouch for its quality. I haven't played SMTIV but a lot of people seem to think of Nocturne as the better game. I plan on getting the Digital Devil Saga games on PSN at some point but right now my plate is kinda full with school and new Vita releases.
  18. I'm a few hours into Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed. The first hour kinda made me go "uh oh, this might have been a mistake" because it seemed a bit shit. But I guess I was just really tired that night because once I got past the admittedly slow start, I really started enjoying it. The combat just looks so ridiculous in action that it's hard not to enjoy the sheer stupidity of it. At one point I was actually running around hitting people with a laptop, then I ripped their clothes off because that's how you kill vampires, obviously. So far, the best part of the game is how authentic it all feels. From what I read, they recreated Akihabara as accurately as possible and it really feels that way. This is pretty much the first time ever where in-game ads actually add to my immersion. It's kinda neat to walk around and see posters and huge banners for other Vita games like Mind Zero and Conception 2. Pretty sure I've also seen one for one of the recent Kiseki games (the Trails in the Sky series). The licensed music also adds a lot to the atmosphere. At one point I heard a song that was super familiar and I'm pretty sure it was the opening theme of one of the Disgaea games.
  19. Persona is very much designed with a Japanese audience in mind. It's gained a big following in the west but I don't think it has a chance of reaching FFVII levels of mainstream success quite yet. P5 will most likely be Atlus' best-selling title ever, though. I wonder what that means for the SMT line. Ever since Persona 4 Golden, they've dropped the SMT moniker from each new release, so I think they're turning Persona back into its own thing in the west. And like FMW said, I wouldn't expect mainline SMT to leave handhelds any time soon, unfortunately. It's a very niche series, more so than Persona. I really hope we get some proper console spin-offs after P5, personally. With P5 now coming out on PS4, they could re-use a lot of assets and make new HD games relatively faster. I want more weird stuff like Digital Devil Saga, damnit! I wouldn't be surprised if they just went straight to work on Persona 6, though...
  20. Fuck yeah! Got tickets for The Book of Mormon in december!

Be prepared to have to explain yourself for bursting out laughing out of nowhere. I kept recalling songs and scenes well after the show and it still cracks me up.

  21. D4 just came out on Vita less than a month ago, I wouldn't wait for it. Your cheapest options right now would be the PSP versions of D1 or D2. They're like 15-20$ on PSN.
  22. That just might be the greatest trailer for anything ever.
  23. I haven't tried Bravely Default but the answer is clearly Danganronpa 2. I finished replaying the original a few days ago but I only got my shipping notice today. So, I won't be able to play it until next week even though I've had it pre-ordered for months. Stupid Amazon.
  24. D4 is definitely the best one since the original, imho. I think I might actually like it more than D1. I still need to play D2 and DD2, though. Waiting for a sale on the former and the Vita version on the latter.
