I'm doing the same. The original was incredibly fun to replay so I imagine this will be even better. I never saw that alternate ending myself and with Diablo 3 coming out a mere two weeks before Max Payne 3, I really don't think I'll be able to play it on normal and again on the harder difficulty. I'll probably just watch it on youtube or something, although honestly I don't really expect MP3 to build upon the existing story or use already existing characters.

So I've finally started playing Dragon Age II the past few days. About 6-7 hours in so far. It's... actually a fun game, in its own right. But once you realize that it's the sequel to one of the best RPGs I've ever played, then yeah... It starts to feel like a piece of shit. At least I knew what I was getting into so my expectations were quite low and I'm able to actually enjoy it. But whenever I pause the action to issue specific orders and realize that it really makes no difference because the combat has been dumbed down so much... it gives me a sad In Origins, I remember having to pause and micro-manage each characters' actions and positions to a point where it might as well have been turn-based. I fucking loved how every other hour I'd run into a fight where the game would basically tell me "hey, get smarter about this or get raped!". Oh and in those 6 hours I've visited the same cave about 5 times so far. Well, not the same cave, but their insides were all identical. So fucking lazy lol

I figured a PC version of American Nightmare was a sure thing but it's awesome to hear about it so soon after the original's PC release. I fucking loved Alan Wake so I can't wait for an official confirmation on this!

I only just got around to playing Crysis 2 last week, so I'm not exactly foaming at the mouth for this one. It's a long way to go until 2013, though, so by the time it actually comes out I'll probably be good for another go. I had fun with Crysis 2 but it was kind of a big step down from the original. Hopefully this one will be more like the first one. All that talk about DX11 graphics on console, though? Yeah, I'm calling bullshit right away. I'll believe it when I see it.

So, out of boredom, I ended up visiting Kotaku just now. Tried to log in and apparently they changed their system and now require you to link your account with either your twitter, facebook or google account. I'm going to have to go with "fuck you".

Max Payne. It's very likely the game I've replayed the most in my life but playing Alan Wake two months ago made me want to revisit it and I've been playing it on and off the past few weeks. The game has aged remarkably well. The gunplay and bullet-time feel as tight as they did back in the days and I had a blast replaying it. Now to replay the second one slowly over the next few weeks in preparation for Max Payne 3's release. Having the first two fresh in memory probably means I'll be more critical of any change in tone in the third one's writing, though.

Beat Crysis 2 last night. It was a lot of fun but I'm glad I ended up cancelling my Steam pre-order when the demo came out. I can see how it would've pissed me off if I'd played it when my hype was at it's highest. Overall I'd say it was better than most generic (single-player) shooters out there but a big step down from the original.
-
I'm liking the look of it and yeah and I'm actually glad to see it looks nothing like HL2. Gameplay would've been preferable, obviously, but I'm loving the art style and general feel of the world shown so far so I'm looking forward to seeing more. Also, I hadn't really made the connection while watching the trailer but I agree Kenshi. Now that you mention it, it looks a lot like a more technologically advanced version of the Thief universe.

Yeah, most areas offer different ways to approach your objectives. It's nowhere near as open as the original's island but it's far from being a corridor shooter.

I got my copy yesterday and am playing through it atm. It's pretty damn good. Different from the first one but that doesn't bother me too much. The only thing that I find kinda disappointing is how so far it has very little to do with the original as far as the plot goes.
-
Yeah, I'm not too worried about that.
-
Can now be pre-ordered on Steam! I hesitated a bit since it seems official system requirements haven't been released yet but unless it requires Dx 11 I'm pretty sure I should be able to run it just fine.

Also watched Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last night. Thought it was fucking excellent, as most David Fincher films tend to be. But fuck waiting for Hollywood to make the sequel. I've torrented the swedish ones overnight but I'm not sure if I want to watch them or read the books instead.

Didn't know we had a non-gaming version of this thread.

Lol. Well, to be fair, I don't outright hate Origin. I registered some of my steam and physical copies of EA games to it and actually bought DAII directly from it (admittedly, a game I was only mildly interested in) and the app itself seems fine. But I don't trust EA anywhere near enough to start actively building a games library with them.

Grabbed a few more things. Played it at release but it was a pirated copy and I still felt like I should own a legitimate one. Was 5$ on Steam. Probably should've payed a bit more for it... Was like 9 bucks on Greenman Gaming yesterday. Was very tempted but decided I didn't want an Origin-only digital copy, so instead I paid 15$ more to get a physical copy from Amazon. At least now it'll go on the shelf next to my physical copies of Crysis and Warhead.

So, apparently I (drunkenly) bought this off PSN last night. I say apparently because I had no recollection of doing so until I woke up and logged into my email account just now. "Wait, why do I have new PSN notification emails?" *click* "Oh, right. I did that..." I was planning on getting it anyway, so there's no harm done. But I should probably be more careful about sharing my password and cc info with Drunk FLD...

I felt the same way but I wasn't disappointed. It's a good game. Just don't expect it to blow you away and you'll enjoy it. I still need to beat Shadow of the Colossus, though. I beat it on PS2 years ago, but I kinda skipped it when I got the HD collection... In other news, I started Killer7 today. I'll probably have to restart the first level since there was no save point when I stopped playing but I loved the first couple of hours I spent with it. The best way to describe it would be "deliciously weird". Other than that, I think I'm going to buy God Hand off PSN. It's just one of those games I keep hearing about and can't help but feel bad about not having played it.

Oh, totally. The bosses were ridiculously easy for the most part. I don't even feel like the final one was hard. I just got screwed over because I hadn't upgraded the dentist, or whatever the automatic one is called. I also wasted a lot of time figuring the damage I was dealing was cumulative when it wasn't.
-
Well, I was planning on trying to beat Shadows of the Damned over the week-end but I started playing a couple hours ago and turns out I was much closer to the final boss than I thought. Overall, it was a pretty fun action game. The final boss is fucking terrible, though. It was so incredibly frustrating but not because it was hard. It took me over 30mins to beat it and I didn't die once. It's just that the way the fight works, it can be a huge pain in the ass if for some reason you didn't upgrade a specific gun. I had not. At some point I even paused and went to gamefaqs to make sure whether I was doing something wrong or what. I wasn't, the fight is just designed so that some damage resets unless you can deal enough of it quickly enough and if you fail over and over, well... the fight can go on for fucking forever. I could probably beat the fight very quickly now that I've found a way to manage with what I had but it was an annoying way to end what was otherwise a very fun game.

Playing Shadows of the Damned made me want to play more Suda 51 games, which I'd been meaning to do for a while, so I just grabbed this on Amazon marketplace. Been a while since I've had a good reason to take out the Move. Should be fun. I also dug up my old PS2 copy of Killer7. Bought it years ago and never got around to playing it. Think I'll try to beat SotD over the week-end and get started on K7 while I wait for NMH to arrive.

50% off on PSN, so 20$. I kind of would've preferred a physical copy, but whenever I had the cash for it and shopped around they seemed kind of overpriced and I could never find conclusive evidence on whether or not they still include the soundtrack cd. Besides, I kind of warmed up to buying PSP games digitally lately. At least they'll work on that Vita I plan on buying when I won't be so broke. Anyway, I've wanted to play it for a while now so I'm glad to finally have it. I'm now in desperate need of a new memory stick, though. I had to delete a couple of PSOne classics to make room for it :/ 4GBs quickly becomes insufficient when you start buying digitally...
-
Oh, almost forgot. Earlier I fired up the PS3 to start Shadows of the Damned and realized I hadn't checked the PSN Store this week. So I had a look in case there was some free PS+ games or something. Turns out there's a sale on some FF stuff. Ended up buying these two: About 15$ total for both. Not a bad deal overall. Now I just need to actually start playing with my PSP again... Also a larger memory stick couldn't hurt. Dissidia is going to hurt my meager 4GBs one :/
-
Ha, I actually started playing that today. So far I'm really loving it as well. It kinda surprised me how well Suda 51's craziness, Shinji Mikami's RE4-style of gameplay and Akira Yamaoka's music all complement each other so perfectly. Really glad I took a chance on it when EA had a huge sale on Origin a couple of weeks ago as I think I'm really going to enjoy this one.

I actually liked that it turned out to not be so open world. I loved Borderlands but the worst parts of it for me were the constant driving from one end of the map to the other. And the sewer levels were pretty skippable. I actually had to look up a map online because I couldn't find the damn entrances at first. And then they basically turned out to be a bunch of short levels you had to clear of enemies (you could do it a second time for some cash). Not really worth making a fuss about, honestly :/ Can you elaborate? What didn't you like about it? The combat just sucked me right in. As soon as I started getting some decent guns, I just couldn't stop playing. Though I guess thinking back it kind of really picks up once you get to Wellspring. The first area you operate out of wasn't that memorable.
