Yeah, most areas offer different ways to approach your objectives. It's nowhere near as open as the original's island but it's far from being a corridor shooter.
-
I got my copy yesterday and am playing through it atm. It's pretty damn good. Different from the first one but that doesn't bother me too much. The only thing that I find kinda disappointing is how so far it has very little to do with the original as far as the plot goes.
-
Yeah, I'm not too worried about that.

Can now be pre-ordered on Steam! I hesitated a bit since it seems official system requirements haven't been released yet but unless it requires Dx 11 I'm pretty sure I should be able to run it just fine.

Also watched Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last night. Thought it was fucking excellent, as most David Fincher films tend to be. But fuck waiting for Hollywood to make the sequel. I've torrented the swedish ones overnight but I'm not sure if I want to watch them or read the books instead.

Didn't know we had a non-gaming version of this thread.

Lol. Well, to be fair, I don't outright hate Origin. I registered some of my steam and physical copies of EA games to it and actually bought DAII directly from it (admittedly, a game I was only mildly interested in) and the app itself seems fine. But I don't trust EA anywhere near enough to start actively building a games library with them.

Grabbed a few more things. Played it at release but it was a pirated copy and I still felt like I should own a legitimate one. Was 5$ on Steam. Probably should've payed a bit more for it... Was like 9 bucks on Greenman Gaming yesterday. Was very tempted but decided I didn't want an Origin-only digital copy, so instead I paid 15$ more to get a physical copy from Amazon. At least now it'll go on the shelf next to my physical copies of Crysis and Warhead.

So, apparently I (drunkenly) bought this off PSN last night. I say apparently because I had no recollection of doing so until I woke up and logged into my email account just now. "Wait, why do I have new PSN notification emails?" *click* "Oh, right. I did that..." I was planning on getting it anyway, so there's no harm done. But I should probably be more careful about sharing my password and cc info with Drunk FLD...

I felt the same way but I wasn't disappointed. It's a good game. Just don't expect it to blow you away and you'll enjoy it. I still need to beat Shadow of the Colossus, though. I beat it on PS2 years ago, but I kinda skipped it when I got the HD collection... In other news, I started Killer7 today. I'll probably have to restart the first level since there was no save point when I stopped playing but I loved the first couple of hours I spent with it. The best way to describe it would be "deliciously weird". Other than that, I think I'm going to buy God Hand off PSN. It's just one of those games I keep hearing about and can't help but feel bad about not having played it.

Oh, totally. The bosses were ridiculously easy for the most part. I don't even feel like the final one was hard. I just got screwed over because I hadn't upgraded the dentist, or whatever the automatic one is called. I also wasted a lot of time figuring the damage I was dealing was cumulative when it wasn't.
-
Well, I was planning on trying to beat Shadows of the Damned over the week-end but I started playing a couple hours ago and turns out I was much closer to the final boss than I thought. Overall, it was a pretty fun action game. The final boss is fucking terrible, though. It was so incredibly frustrating but not because it was hard. It took me over 30mins to beat it and I didn't die once. It's just that the way the fight works, it can be a huge pain in the ass if for some reason you didn't upgrade a specific gun. I had not. At some point I even paused and went to gamefaqs to make sure whether I was doing something wrong or what. I wasn't, the fight is just designed so that some damage resets unless you can deal enough of it quickly enough and if you fail over and over, well... the fight can go on for fucking forever. I could probably beat the fight very quickly now that I've found a way to manage with what I had but it was an annoying way to end what was otherwise a very fun game.

Playing Shadows of the Damned made me want to play more Suda 51 games, which I'd been meaning to do for a while, so I just grabbed this on Amazon marketplace. Been a while since I've had a good reason to take out the Move. Should be fun. I also dug up my old PS2 copy of Killer7. Bought it years ago and never got around to playing it. Think I'll try to beat SotD over the week-end and get started on K7 while I wait for NMH to arrive.

50% off on PSN, so 20$. I kind of would've preferred a physical copy, but whenever I had the cash for it and shopped around they seemed kind of overpriced and I could never find conclusive evidence on whether or not they still include the soundtrack cd. Besides, I kind of warmed up to buying PSP games digitally lately. At least they'll work on that Vita I plan on buying when I won't be so broke. Anyway, I've wanted to play it for a while now so I'm glad to finally have it. I'm now in desperate need of a new memory stick, though. I had to delete a couple of PSOne classics to make room for it :/ 4GBs quickly becomes insufficient when you start buying digitally...

Oh, almost forgot. Earlier I fired up the PS3 to start Shadows of the Damned and realized I hadn't checked the PSN Store this week. So I had a look in case there was some free PS+ games or something. Turns out there's a sale on some FF stuff. Ended up buying these two: About 15$ total for both. Not a bad deal overall. Now I just need to actually start playing with my PSP again... Also a larger memory stick couldn't hurt. Dissidia is going to hurt my meager 4GBs one :/

Ha, I actually started playing that today. So far I'm really loving it as well. It kinda surprised me how well Suda 51's craziness, Shinji Mikami's RE4-style of gameplay and Akira Yamaoka's music all complement each other so perfectly. Really glad I took a chance on it when EA had a huge sale on Origin a couple of weeks ago as I think I'm really going to enjoy this one.

I actually liked that it turned out to not be so open world. I loved Borderlands but the worst parts of it for me were the constant driving from one end of the map to the other. And the sewer levels were pretty skippable. I actually had to look up a map online because I couldn't find the damn entrances at first. And then they basically turned out to be a bunch of short levels you had to clear of enemies (you could do it a second time for some cash). Not really worth making a fuss about, honestly :/ Can you elaborate? What didn't you like about it? The combat just sucked me right in. As soon as I started getting some decent guns, I just couldn't stop playing. Though I guess thinking back it kind of really picks up once you get to Wellspring. The first area you operate out of wasn't that memorable.

Rage. Can someone please explain to me why this game got so much hate when it came out? I remember hearing a lot of people saying it was bad and I understand that the PC version specifically had some issues when it came out. But seriously, what the fuck? It was awesome! It was kinda refreshing to be carrying a complete arsenal around with me. It's not an old-school shooter by any stretch of the imagination, but it was nice to have that classic FPS staple come back. I also really enjoyed the combat. The way the enemies dodge and jump all over the place makes it incredibly fun to blast them in the face with a shotgun. And the punch behind that shotgun is so very satisfying. I used it most of the time, only switching when I was forced to fight long-range. Another thing I liked is that the game just looks amazing. Not so much the graphical fidelity (textures don't look great when you look at them up close) but rather the art design. It's not that it's graphically impressive, it just looks damn good. Especially the final level. It could've been a generic sci-fi/high-tech environment but the attention to detail really made it stand out and gave it some personality. Of course there's the ending. That one kinda pissed me off. Completely anti-climatic and it resolves absolutely nothing. But I thought everything leading up to it was fucking awesome. Overall, it was well worth the 15$ I paid for it during the Steam holidays sale.

Well, had my differential calculus final this morning and once again I feel like I totally nailed it. Let's hope this time I actually did...
-
I was also thinking that what dean said didn't sound quite right but didn't comment because it's been quite a while since I played the game and I don't remember specific details. But I was playing the game on hard on my first run and I clearly remember there being a point where combat suddenly got ridiculously frustrating and impossible until I figured out there was a way to break through enemies' defenses.

Forgot to post here but I also beat Mass Effect 3 a few days ago. Ending was disappointing but nowhere near as terrible as everyone on the internet made it out to be. Overall the game was still a damn fun 30+ hours.
-
Spent the past 4 hours finishing the game. Now I'm tired and going to bed. But before, there's just something I want to say. *clears throat* FUCK YOU, INTERNET!! Ah, that felt good. Seriously. The ending was disappointing, but holy shit was this blown WAY out of proportion. I guess some people just had such a raging hate-boner for Bioware and EA that they were going to fucking despise it regardless, but what the fuck. I had fun right up until the credits rolled.

You know, it actually really feels like they wanted to just ditch the graphic novel style but felt obligated to include it somehow, so we get this half-assed crap. I don't know, I'm still not convinced that the writer of GTA and RDR can pen a Max Payne story. A good story? Probably. But his overall style just doesn't seem to fit the series. At this point I'm really just looking forward to playing a Rockstar-designed shooter. Gameplay should be pretty amazing considering the focus of the team was designing the shooting mechanics as opposed to creating an open world.

Wait, so text is actually going to pop up like that during cutscenes? That looks so fucking retarded... Ugh, I still want to play it as I'm sure it's going to be an amazing shooter. But this trailer really didn't put my mind at ease as far as the storytelling is concerned.
