  1. Turns out some apps return wrong fps counts for the game. I was getting around 200 on EVGA Precision and people have reported the same using MSI Afterburner. But I tested with Fraps just now and I'm getting a much more realistic sub-60 number. It never goes above 60, which makes much more sense since I've got v-sync on. While I was playing, there were actually a few times during cutscenes where it felt like the fps dipped for a second or two. But with the numbers Precision was reporting, I figured it was just my imagination. Guess it wasn't. The game still runs extremely well, just not as insanely well as Precision led me to believe.
  2. Count me in, just gotta fire up the game quick to get my username. ... Shocker, it's FLD.
  3. Had a shot at New York Minute and Score Attack. Both are really fun, though it sucks that leaderboards are already full of cheaters. High score on the first level is like 9999999982899 for score attack and literally thousands of minutes for NYM :/ Wonder if Rockstar are going to do anything about it...
  4. Max Payne 3. Took me about 10 hours. Decent length, I guess. I already posted my impressions in the MP3 thread so all I'll say is it's a great game but my worries about the story turned out to be spot on. They've also made some pretty weird/stupid design decisions, though. A good example is how the game automatically defaults you back to your handgun after every cutscene. This is especially annoying for mid-level ones. Numerous times I cleared a room, went into a cutscene only for more enemies to appear and going out of the cutscene I died because I reacted based on my previously equipped weapon, say a shotgun. Most of the time it was annoying more than anything, but I did die a few times because of it. Just such an unintuitive design choice. The worst was when it reverted to the handgun when I was out of ammo for the damn thing. So fucking stupid. Oh and I don't remember who it was that said the game was too hard (and that they'd bumped down the difficulty) but... I have no idea what the hell they were on about. I played on medium and it seemed pretty standard to me. Some sections posed a challenge but nothing unfair or anything. The way you can recover from a fatal wound by shooting whoever dealt you the damage actually made some situations a bit easy, imho. I dunno, overall the difficulty felt pretty balanced, even maybe leaning on the easy side a bit at times. Maybe people are too used to regenerating health?
  5. Oh fuck yes http://ca.ign.com/ar...t-new-alan-wake I knew Remedy weren't done with the series, but I honestly did not expect anything so soon. Hopefully something more concrete during E3 I'm currently reading through the blog posts and it's pretty obviously tied into the mythology of the game. Fun read if you're into the Alan Wake story. http://thishouseofdreams.blogspot.ca/
  6. That nuns trailer was a bit stupid but yeah, it's in line with what they did before and I think as usual people are blowing it way out of proportion. So basically, business as usual in the gaming community. Anyway, as a huge fan of the series, I'd so far been worried about what I'd seen. I was afraid they were "streamlining" it or makinge it too action-oriented or whatever else dumb things devs do with games nowadays. This walkthrough really put my mind at ease and actually makes me quite happy Can't wait!
  7. Just grabbed the new Humble Bundle. Didn't think they could beat the 4th one's line-up but they actually managed to. Mostly grabbed it for Superbrothers: Sword and Sorcery EP (wanted to try it for a while, I just love Capybara Games) since I already owned everything else. Though it's nice to have a copy of Limbo on Steam, I guess.
  8. Oh, absolutely. Forgot to mention it but the game runs unbelievably well on my rig. I was fully expecting to have to drop some serious settings to get a decent framerate but I get a solid 200 fps with every setting maxed out including FXAA, Dx10 enabled and 4X anisatropic filtering. What's weird is I enabled v-sync, so I guess that doesn't work. Not much of an issue, though. And my card was one of the early ones to support Dx10, so those games normally don't run anywhere near that well for me. Oh and SLI works flawlessly day one. That one really surprised me. I've long since gotten used to only getting half of my card's power when buying games day one, so that's pretty fucking awesome. Honestly, I got seriously skeptical after getting my free L.A. Noire, trying it and seeing it just suddenly drop to 20fps for no apparent reason but I'm amazed at how well this runs.
  9. So, now that the PC version is finally out, I've sunk a few hours into the campaign. So far, it's exactly what I expected. The new setting was a terrible idea and the writing and characters feel like they were lifted straight out of GTA. It just doesn't feel like a Max Payne game at all as far as narrative and atmosphere go. And a very strong argument could be made that those two things were key as they were defining traits of the original games. Really disappointed about that but honestly I expected as much and was prepared for it so it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game too much. Some areas actually do kind of give off a vibe that's vaguely reminiscent of the first two games but most of them just feel wrong. That being said, the gameplay is fucking tight. I was confident that Rockstar would craft a quality shooter and they did not disappoint in that area, imho. The physics and animations of how Max moves and reacts to contact with objects or when he leaps over obstacles are just amazing. Basically, the only thing working against the game is that it's supposed to be a Max Payne sequel. Change the title and main character and all my complaints just vanish into thin air.
  10. Gods & Kings is up for pre-order on Steam with 10% off. http://store.steampo....com/app/16870/ Can't get it right away but I'll probably be able to in a week or so. Summer sale is very likely right around the corner, though, but I'm not sure I'll be able to wait. :/ Woke up at 6 am this morning and having fuck all to do I decided to start a game. Ended up playing until noon and won a cultural victory in a little over 400 turns. I think it's time to bump the difficulty up a notch. I kinda feel like starting another game later tonight but at the same time I don't really want to get burnt out on it again right before the expansion comes out.
  11. Forgot to post, but I grabbed the Bundle in a Box Adventure thing a few days ago. Got it mostly for Gemini Rue. It had popped on my radar a few days before the bundle went live and while I don't hate the genre by any stretch, point-and-clicks rarely intrigue me this much, so I went for it. Started playing yesterday and so far I like it. Also, I grabbed the last few DLC maps I was missing for Civ V.
  12. Looks like a Steam pre-load for Max Payne 3 has been confirmed. Thank fucking God, because a day one 30GB download would've been so fucking annoying, especially after that last minute push of the release date.

  13. Alan Wake's American Nightmare. Was a bit shorter than I expected (about 5 hours) but it was awesome, especially for the price. The combat is a lot more fun than in the original with all the new weapons and enemy types. I really wouldn't mind playing another one like this while we wait for a proper Alan Wake 2.
  14. 27$ used a week after release? That's surprisingly low.
  15. Technically not a purchase, though. Some guy on reddit traded me his pre-order in exchange for my extra CS:GO beta along with my bonus copies of Max Payne 1 and 2 I got from pre-ordering Max Payne 3. Also, once I redeemed it, I got a bonus copy of the original which I intend to try and trade for something else. I fucking love the trading system
  16. Hahaha, nice. Yeah, the physics and animations looked pretty damn good in the tech videos they released. Have you tried multiplayer yet? I hear it's actually pretty good.
  17. I already bought Thief Gold when it came out on GoG a few months back but now it's on Steam. And Steam is where I must own all my games. ...sigh Seriously, though, I fucking love those games and have no problem buying them repeatedly. I pirated them back in the days, anyway, and I'm more than happy to make up for it now.
  18. blergh.... NA release date pushed to friday june 1 so it now has a "worldwide release" Whyyyyyyyyyy?!? What's the fucking point?! What benefit does this bring?! I mean, it's only 3 days, but a last minute push like this feels like such a kick in the fucking balls... http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/22/max-payne-3-ships-3-million-units-pc-launch-pushed-worldwide-ju/
  19. There's been lots of reports about account getting hacked the past week. Seems the common trend is people hacked didn't have an authenticator.
  20. Just logged on Steam and I received a CS:GO invite. I want to try it but I'm also wondering what kind of value it might have? How's the demand? Is it tradeable for something good?

How do you guys get the invites?

Well I'm pretty sure I opted in for the beta at one point, like filled out a survey or something from Valve. But other than that, I just received it without really doing anything special.

Uh, okay. So, I got a steam pop-up that basically said "CS:GO" is more fun with friends, so we gave you a new invite!". I checked my inventory and there was still only one of them. Then I checked my games library and there was CS:GO among my uninstalled games. Not sure how the game added itself to my library on its own, but I'm not complaining! Now I can have my cake and eat it too :D

  21. Been holding off on watching all year long and tonight the time has finally come! Fringe Season 4, let us begin!

Season 4 gets better as it goes, don't worry.

      So, it starts out weak?

    3. TCP

      TCP

Yes. Let's just say there's not much Peter and a lot of Lincoln Lee. That's not good for anyone. But the end of the season is really strong.

  22. Yeah, they mailed it, no shipping charge. As for the games I'm thinking of selling, here's the list I have so far:
  23. Cool, thanks. That actually sounds pretty good. I'll give the demo a shot later. I always forget that just because there's no demo on Steam doesn't mean there isn't one. :/
  24. Yeah, I dislike auto-aiming in games but in RDR it felt appropriate.
  25. Yeah, I get that it's supposed to be similar to Civ. But I guess I just have difficulty wrapping my head around a space 4X. Would you mind breaking down a bit how a game works?
