  1. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I paid slightly more for it during the holiday sale and I wasn't. It's shallow but very, very fun action game.
  2. Yeah, they're definitely doing right by the PC platform. It's good to see that some devs still know how to properly port to PC. This is also really reinforcing the idea that the initial "cancellation" of the PC version was out of their hands. Considering how long the game's development cycle was and that they're actually a rather small studio, they probably really needed the financial support Microsoft was offering to finish, market and release the game. And it's no secret that Microsoft can be a bunch of dicks about stuff like that.
  3. Steam release date confirmed to be february 16th! Price: 29,99$ for regular version including DLC, 34,99$ for LCE, which I assume is Limited Collector's Edition. No idea what's in it, only skimmed the post as I must leave for class in like 5 mins. But yeah, pretty happy about this. Definitely pre-ordering or buying day 1, whichever is the first available option. http://www.alanwake.com/alan-wake-is-coming-home/
  4. Kinda bored, goes on battle.net to browse the forums or whatever. Logs in and... wait, that wasn't there before! http://i.imgur.com/Kg6jM.png

I know, right?! And I haven't even finished my first run of Diablo II! :D

I got in as well so they've definitely added a bunch more people to the beta.

  5. So I just started playing Diablo 2 for the first time yesterday and I've been enjoying it a lot so I decided to look up what the expansion added. Turns out that in addition to a fifth act and a bunch of items, it also doubles your storage space and adds the option to bump the resolution up to 800x600 from the original's 640x480 (it actually blows my mind that this and the original StarCraft run at a fixed - and very low - resolution and don't allow you to change it or even have any graphical settings whatsoever). That seems like something that would improve the experience quite a bit so Blizzard gets yet another 10$ from me. Actually, I'm just now realizing that I've spent almost 100$ this month on Blizzard games alone. Also, I am now totally buying Diablo 3 at launch. Yeah...
  6. Started playing Diablo 2 for the first time today. Man, I was not prepared for how addictive that damn game is! The "click-click-click-click-click" combat had always seemed kinda boring to me, so I didn't bother with it when it first came out. But I recently got quite curious about Diablo 3, so I decided to give D2 a shot to see whether or not D3 is for me. At first it was kind of okay. Came out of the starting camp and started killing shit and picking up gold. Meh. But the first time I ran into a large mob of 30 or so enemies, went "Oh shit!" as I started clicking like a mad man and quickly found myself surrounded by a few dozen corpses and piles of gold... I was almost laughing maniacally. The game had its hooks into me before I cleared the first dungeon. I finished Act 1 when I stopped playing earlier and I fully intend to clear Act 2 tomorrow
  7. So.. anyone with a knowledge of, I'm assuming, japanese, can tell if this looks legit? http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/452/452047/

  8. I'm more than a decade late on this one but I finally beat StarCraft! Man, that last Protoss mission was a pain in the ass. Think I'll take a break with another game before getting started on Brood War, though. Maybe Diablo II.
  9. This one is just awesome And this is probably my favorite glitch in any game. Ever. It manages to be both hilarious and creepy. I was sad that it had been patched when I finally played the game
  10. I don't remember hearing anything about it until the reviews came out. I don't feel like I was deceived, though. I really loved how different and unique it made the game feel. But I can't blame people for being annoyed by it. The people it really bothered might not have actually bought or played the game at all had they known it about it simply because they weren't interested in playing a game like that.
  11. Probably because it's 2D, because most PS2 games I tried on my PS3 looked like shit when upscaled.
  12. Brutal Legend's a great game. I fucking love the metal-themed world Double Fine created. The only reason it failed is because it was marketed by absolute fucking morons. The demo gave the impression of a standard linear third-person action game while it's actually more of a semi open-world affair. And then, it fucking turns into an RTS halfway through, but for some reason that is beyond me they figured nobody needed to know that prior to launch. So most people got to that part, went "wtf is this shit?!" and just tossed it aside. I bought it at launch and unfortunately never finished it Got stuck on one of the latter RTS sections (I think I was literally a single chapter away from finishing it), and then Demon's Souls and Uncharted 2 came out and I just never looked back. I've been meaning to get back to it for a long time now, but I can never bring myself to start it over... :/
  13. Yeah, it really shows that the multiplayer part was developed by DICE while the sp was done by uh.... some other guys... I could be wrong, but I think they also run on different engines, with the MP being on Frostbite. Anyway, didn't think to post it but I finally caved and bought this earlier this week. Won't be playing the campaign yet since I'm still playing through the original (almost done with the original Protoss campaign and then it's on to Brood War), but I played a few AI matches and will probably be giving the online a shot over the week-end. Hopefully the tiering system works and I'll be able to play against people who have a non-asian skill level. Also, I've been having such a blast with the original StarCraft that I decided to give a shot to the other Blizzard series I've somehow managed to ignore up until now. Only 10$ on the Blizzard store. Going to use it to decide whether or not I want to buy Diablo III. Would've started with the first one but for some reason they're not selling it on their website. But yeah, at this rate I should be buying WarCraft III any time now...
  14. Seems Humble Indie Bundle 5 is happening in the near future. Entries supposedly added to Steam registry. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=28796273#post28796273 http://marlamin.com/cdr/view.php?type=sub (fifth from the top at the time I'm writing this)
  15. This is not what "psychological" means. This is a bit like saying "oh, it says action, so why isn't it like Devil May Cry?" Psychological Thriller is actually a genre. Silent Hill is Psychological Horror. The thriller has more action. The horror is slower and more mental. The term "action" is way too broad and encompassing to be used as a genre. Could be anything from a fighting game to a brawler or a shooter. Hell, even some racing games could be classified as action games. So that comparison really doesn't work. The distinction between horror and thriller is valid, though. But to say that anything has a psychological element to it means the same thing regardless of genre. I wouldn't expect Alan Wake to play or feel anything like Silent Hill 2 based on what I know of both games, but if the psychological element is done better in one game than in the other, then there is grounds to draw a parallel and critically compare the two. While I understand this, I'd just say that if you're willing to buy a game new... then you should probably buy Alan Wake new. We could apply that mentality to absolutely anything. "Oh, well, it'll get cheaper, so I won't buy this game." Yeah, I can say that of absolutely any game on the market out there. Alan Wake is one of the few games that I'd say shouldn't be waited for. Of course you can say that of any game. I don't mind buying games new or even at launch if I feel like it's worth it. But Alan Wake is almost two years old at this point, so yeah, I feel like a full price wouldn't be justified. Any premium associated with paying more to play a game early is long irrelevant here. Of course, I say that now and in my last post I used StarCraft 2 as an example. And literally the same day I wrote that last post I broke down and ordered SC2 for 50$. So, eh, we'll see.
  16. Yeah the 20 FPS thing seemed a bit odd. But everything else? I wasn't going to get this at launch anyway (haven't even downloaded the demo yet) and I actually liked XIII despite all its flaws. But I really don't think SE are above screwing up even further at this point. A large segment of the japanese games industry has felt very out of touch this gen, and SE have definitely been among the worsts so far.
  17. Wow, if this is all true.... that's pretty bad. http://i.imgur.com/tWKkk.png
  18. From Dust any good? I'm curious but I haven't heard much about it other than DRM complaints, which I think has been removed now.

I enjoyed it, and while the controls were kinda bad it was the same on console (I played it on PC with a 360 controller). I guess I just didn't run into any of the problems other people had. I'd say it's worth $5 if you've got a controller to play it with, but under no circumstances should you try to play it with a mouse and keyboard, that really *is* terrible.

I had a very good time with it (PS3). Killed a couple of days.

  19. Obviously, I haven't played it yet. Nor have I played Silent Hill 2 (looking forward to that HD collection!). But I can sort of see where this is coming from. The one reason that keeps coming back as to why Silent Hill 2 is so great is that it's heavily rooted in the psychology of its main character, with enemies representing elements of his psyche and whatnot. So when Alan Wake bills itself as a "Psychological Action Thriller", it's not that much of a stretch for people to draw a comparison between the two. Now whether or not the comparison is fair is arguable, but the label is right there on the box. :/ The part about the Steam sale is, well, true. If a game was on sale for a ridiculously low price, and I missed it, then yeah I'll be hesitant to pay full price for it now. Why should I when it's very likely to get another sale sooner or later? For example, ebgames.ca had StarCraft II for 30$ over the holidays. I was tempted, but ultimately decided not to get it because I'd already spent a lot on Steam games. Now I'm currently in the middle of a huge StarCraft phase, watching pro replays and finally playing through all the campaigns of the original. Needless to say, I really want to buy SCII and am kicking myself for not getting it while it was 30$. It's currently 50$ on Amazon.ca and... yeah, I would feel stupid if I bought it at that price now. It's hard to justify it when it could go back to 30$ pretty much anytime. Oh and I believe the thread has already been moved to multiplat.
  20. Sounds like co-op might be a separate mode and support up to 6 players. http://www.gamerzines.com/xbox-360/news/resident-evil-6-6-player-co-op.html I hope this is true. I have zero problem with co-op so long as it's not forced on me. I want my single-player campaign to be single-player, damnit!
  21. I really didn't get the feeling that U3 was the last one or any kind of ending to the series. Of course, I'm not assuming U4 is a sure thing either, but this is such a huge franchise for Sony that I'd be surprised if they shelved the "main" series entirely. Wouldn't mind if they gave it a break until the next gen, though. Give it some time to breathe and bring it back bigger and better in a 3-4 years.
  22. Actually, 30$ is the sweet spot for me. Any higher and I'll hesitate and probably wait until a sale. If they think they can get away with releasing it at a full 50-60$ pricepoint, though, they can fuck right off. But at 30$ I wouldn't mind supporting Remedy, especially since they're self-publishing. The original Max Payne is one of my most played game of all time. I think I actually played it more than Ocarina of Time And yeah, Waldorf, I'm coming at it with adjusted expectations considering how it was received. But I'm still expecting to enjoy it a lot despite the complaints leveled against it. There are just too many elements present that are right up my alley. For a start, I actually prefer my games to be story heavy. The game also gives off this really strong Stephen King vibe and I'm a massive King fan. Plus, I think the TV season format thing is kinda cool. So yeah, really looking forward to finally playing it
  23. So, I guess this needs to be moved to Multiplat now. Almost started a thread but figured there had to be one in here. They just released a FAQ about the PC version http://forum.alanwak...read.php?t=7667 Gist of it is: Coming out in february. Price will be announced closer to release. Remedy is self-publishing. No GFWL. Full Steamworks support including Steamcloud and achievements Both DLC will be included. No mod tools. Approximate minimum specs
  24. I didn't think it was downright bad, but it was fairly unexceptional, imo. If I recall correctly, the tier 1 levels were also ridiculously easy. I mean, I like the idea of playing as a badass tier 1 operative that can kick all kinds of ass, but at least make it challenging otherwise it doesn't make for very satisfying gameplay. I had some fun with the MP beta, though.
