  1. Wow, if this is all true.... that's pretty bad. http://i.imgur.com/tWKkk.png
  2. From Dust any good? I'm curious but I haven't heard much about it other than DRM complaints, which I think has been removed now.

I enjoyed it, and while the controls were kinda bad it was the same on console (I played it on PC with a 360 controller). I guess I just didn't run into any of the problems other people had. I'd say it's worth $5 if you've got a controller to play it with, but under no circumstances should you try to play it with a mouse and keyboard, that really *is* terrible.

Its ok. Didn't really get me going though.

I had a very good time with it (PS3). Killed a couple of days.

  3. Obviously, I haven't played it yet. Nor have I played Silent Hill 2 (looking forward to that HD collection!). But I can sort of see where this is coming from. The one reason that keeps coming back as to why Silent Hill 2 is so great is that it's heavily rooted in the psychology of its main character, with enemies representing elements of his psyche and whatnot. So when Alan Wake bills itself as a "Psychological Action Thriller", it's not that much of a stretch for people to draw a comparison between the two. Now whether or not the comparison is fair is arguable, but the label is right there on the box. :/ The part about the Steam sale is, well, true. If a game was on sale for a ridiculously low price, and I missed it, then yeah I'll be hesitant to pay full price for it now. Why should I when it's very likely to get another sale sooner or later? For example, ebgames.ca had StarCraft II for 30$ over the holidays. I was tempted, but ultimately decided not to get it because I'd already spent a lot on Steam games. Now I'm currently in the middle of a huge StarCraft phase, watching pro replays and finally playing through all the campaigns of the original. Needless to say, I really want to buy SCII and am kicking myself for not getting it while it was 30$. It's currently 50$ on Amazon.ca and... yeah, I would feel stupid if I bought it at that price now. It's hard to justify it when it could go back to 30$ pretty much anytime. Oh and I believe the thread has already been moved to multiplat.
  4. Sounds like co-op might be a separate mode and support up to 6 players. http://www.gamerzines.com/xbox-360/news/resident-evil-6-6-player-co-op.html I hope this is true. I have zero problem with co-op so long as it's not forced on me. I want my single-player campaign to be single-player, damnit!
  5. I really didn't get the feeling that U3 was the last one or any kind of ending to the series. Of course, I'm not assuming U4 is a sure thing either, but this is such a huge franchise for Sony that I'd be surprised if they shelved the "main" series entirely. Wouldn't mind if they gave it a break until the next gen, though. Give it some time to breathe and bring it back bigger and better in a 3-4 years.
  6. Actually, 30$ is the sweet spot for me. Any higher and I'll hesitate and probably wait until a sale. If they think they can get away with releasing it at a full 50-60$ pricepoint, though, they can fuck right off. But at 30$ I wouldn't mind supporting Remedy, especially since they're self-publishing. The original Max Payne is one of my most played game of all time. I think I actually played it more than Ocarina of Time And yeah, Waldorf, I'm coming at it with adjusted expectations considering how it was received. But I'm still expecting to enjoy it a lot despite the complaints leveled against it. There are just too many elements present that are right up my alley. For a start, I actually prefer my games to be story heavy. The game also gives off this really strong Stephen King vibe and I'm a massive King fan. Plus, I think the TV season format thing is kinda cool. So yeah, really looking forward to finally playing it
  7. So, I guess this needs to be moved to Multiplat now. Almost started a thread but figured there had to be one in here. They just released a FAQ about the PC version http://forum.alanwak...read.php?t=7667 Gist of it is: Coming out in february. Price will be announced closer to release. Remedy is self-publishing. No GFWL. Full Steamworks support including Steamcloud and achievements Both DLC will be included. No mod tools. Approximate minimum specs
  8. I didn't think it was downright bad, but it was fairly unexceptional, imo. If I recall correctly, the tier 1 levels were also ridiculously easy. I mean, I like the idea of playing as a badass tier 1 operative that can kick all kinds of ass, but at least make it challenging otherwise it doesn't make for very satisfying gameplay. I had some fun with the MP beta, though.
  9. I almost grabbed it when I saw the deal, but then I remembered the SP is very meh :/
  10. I agree with that to an extent. A game can still feel short regardless of how well-paced it is. On the other hand, a normal length game can feel too long if it has horrible pacing. But that also usually means the game has problems other than pacing. I don't really have an opinion on RE5, though. It felt neither too short or too long to me, but this is coming from someone who liked it enough to replay on all difficulties and platinum it. That's not to say it was perfectly paced, though. But personally, I find that as long as a game doesn't stretch past the 12-15 hours mark, then pacing issues are less of a problem for me.
  11. That doesn't sound right... I mean, don't get me wrong, it would be fucking awesome. But I don't recall RE5 being particularly short, and I would be very surprised if Capcom actually put what is essentially two full-length campaigns in a single release. Doesn't fit with their usual greedy business model. If both campaigns were to be that long, I would fully expect them to find a way to charge you double the regular price, with separate releases or something. But now that you mention it, the two campaigns thing is actually a bit reminiscent of the old "Scenario A/Scenario B" thing. That's actually pretty cool.
  12. Just came out on GOG yesterday. I've wanted to try it for a while since I've heard for years that it's this amazing classic, kinda like X-Com.
  13. I also liked RE5 a lot, but after having replayed RE4 a few months ago, well, it puts into perspective a lot of what made RE5 disappointing. This, though. This is looking fucking awesome. Still appears to be action heavy, but anyone still expecting a proper survival horror game from Capcom at this point is either naive or stupid. So no big surprise there. But yeah, Resident Evil is a staple of my childhood so I'm always going to get excited for a new main entry in the series. But after RE5, I honestly didn't expect to be this damn excited as soon as they revealed RE6. But I'm really liking what I just saw. Especially the Nemesis/Tyrant vibe I'm getting from that huge monster dude. Fuck that Ouroboros shit from RE5. It sucked how almost every single boss was pretty much the same mass of black gelatinous crap. Bring back proper zombies and mutated freaks with giant eyeballs in all the wrong places and I'll be happy. And yeah, I really hope they don't build it around co-op again, though. Resident Evil is a single-player experience as far as I'm concerned and 5 constantly felt like I was "playing it wrong" by insisting to play alone.
  14. Damn, I never thought I could get so into watching commentated StarCraft replays! Shit is just so damn entertaining!

Starcraft streamers, r/starcraft, more starcraft replays. I know many people who have fallen victim to "it". :D

  15. It's the other way around, imo. Kasumi was fine but a bit forgettable while Overlord got pretty damn good in the last 20mins or so. Shadow Broker is the best DLC of anything ever, though. Should probably get around to playing Arrival soon, though, considering ME3 is right around the corner. Feeling a bit dumb to have bought it full price back in october considering I haven't touched it yet and it's now on sale, but eh, it's only 2$.
  16. Yeah, I wasn't suggesting that they added it solely because of EA. As for older games still being available, it's not that far-fetched to assume that it might only apply to current (as in games that still have DLC scheduled) and new releases going forward and not to previously available games with no new content on the way. But yeah, no way to know for sure. I'm also really curious about what exactly happened there.
  17. That's true, but it's possible Valve added that requirement in the last couple of years, after they realized EA insists on selling their DLC outside of Steam. At least that would be my guess.
  18. Thing is, Valve can't put EA's content on sale if they don't want them to. I think it has more to do with them not wanting to give a cut to Valve. Also, I heard something about Valve requiring that DLC for a game be available through Steam, essentially forcing them to do so. I have no idea if the last part is bs or not, though, but it does kind of make sense when you consider that both Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2 disappeared from Steam right around the time their first DLC came out.
  19. Yeah, totally saw this coming. Pretty glad I switched to PS3 a few months back.
  20. Yay, my Razer Sphex arrived today! It's very thin and kinda feels like it wasn't really worth 20 bucks material quality-wise, but eh, at least it's very large, sticks to the desk and looks way cooler than the shit blue Dell mat I was using. Pretty much everything I wanted out of it.

  21. Currently 6$ on Greenman Gaming. Deal ends in about 8 hours, though. I passed on it when it was about 7$ a week or so ago. I honestly have no idea what changed... I think that after spending about an hour tonight shopping around for earbuds and finding nothing, I just wanted to spend money on something. Probably also helps that today I found out I don't have a single book to buy this semester. That leaves me with quite a bit of extra cash this month
  22. Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention Mantis. But I did mention The End and Ray vs Rex as being particularly good. Can't say I'm a fan of The Fury, though. Actually, now that I think of it, the Cobras always felt pretty generic and uninspired to me. Especially The Fear and The Pain. And I thought all four of the B&B from MGS4 were even worse in that regard.
  23. Been meaning to invest in a proper mouse mat for a while since my Deathadder gets all wonky when I put it straight on the desk and the shitty Dell one I'm using atm is, well... shitty. It's too small, ugly and keeps sliding and won't stay in place. Was over at my aunt's during the holidays and my cousin had this one and showed it to me. It's fairly large, which is nice. But more importantly: it sticks to whatever surface you put it on! No more pausing the game to readjust the mat! Now I just need to invest in a fancy keyboard and I'll have all the shiny gamer toys I need
  24. I see people complaining about boss fights very often, but personally I love them. They're by no means necessary, but I definitely enjoy a good boss fight. The God of War series has some great ones. They're not particularly unique and usually pretty simplistic but I think they're just crazy fun. Of course, unlike most people I have absolutely nothing against QTEs, so it's possible I'm in the minority here. Then there's the Metal Gear Solid series. I'm a huge fan of it, but most of the boss fights in it are either too easy or just annoying. Except for the sniping boss fight in MGS3. That one is just such a unique experience and I don't think any other game has come close to pulling off something so diffferent in terms of boss fights. I replayed the game last month and methodically crawling around scanning the jungle for 15mins only to finally spot the old bastard and shoot him right in his fucking head is still as satisfying as it was 8 years ago. The ones from MGS4 were just awful, though. Well, the two against Ocelot were pretty cool, especially the final one. But the Beauty and the Beast ones? Just... blergh. Whenever I replay the game I just load up on RPG ammo and one shot them. Oh and I also liked the ME2 reaper one. It had a kind of old school feel to it that I thought was really cool.
