  1. Rank these console generations: NES/SMS, SNES/Genesis, N64/PS1, PS2/GCN/Xbox, 360/PS3/Wii

The Wii had a strong library? It was arguably no stronger than Gamecube's or the XBox. The PS2 carried that entire generation by having a bazillion and a half good games in every genre.

The Wii's library is the weakest for sure, but I'd say it had a stronger library than GCN or Xbox.

I definitely owned more games for Xbox than I did for Wii. GCN is about on par.

    Wii U

I haven't yet but apparently the little camera on top of the tablet functions as as the IR reader. I did use the Wii remote to browse the menu, but i'd have to move the tablet back a couple feet to get it to read. The annoying thing, and I don't know if this is because it was my first time using Wii mode since updating, but I had to turn the TV on, point at the TV and confirm going into the Wii mode, which means I'd have been out of luck if I didn't have access to the TV. Hopefully you don't have to do that every time. I can understand not being able to use the tablet's buttons/thumbsticks for games like Skyward Sword, but there's no reason classic controller games or games like New Super Mario Bros where you play with the Wii remote sideways can't work. Same with Virtual Console games, clearly they just want us to "upgrade" to the Wii U versions, which I'd be interested in doing if they put more than crappy NES games on the store.

    Wii U

A new Wii U update lets you play Wii games on your tablet controller. I tried it out last night... the good news is some of these Wii games look a lot better on the tablet screen than blown up on an HDTV. I tried out Xenoblade and actually didn't make me want to vomit. Though the unfortunate news is that even though games like Xenoblade use the classic controller, you can't play the game with the tablet controller. So if you're like me and you do your Vita/Wii U gaming in bed, you still have to have a Wii Remote, and in the case, a classic controller plugged into it. Virtual Console games also work, Majora's Mask looked pretty good, but again, I had the screen propped up so I could see it while laying down and had to use a separate controller. Oh Nintendo!
  5. Would you rather have single player DLC featuring Joel and Ellie or completely new The Last of Us characters?

      New characters, for sure.

I don't care, but my preference would be Joel and Ellie.

  6. Yeah monster of the week formula is my biggest concern. If they want to capture some of the crowd ABC had with shows like LOST, they need a strong season-long story arc, plus stand alone episodes. But for now, I felt as an establishing episode, it did a good job introducing all the characters.
  7. How long did it take you guys to get to the end of GTAV?
  8. ......A fate worse than death.
  9. That's so incredibly awesome. Only Square!!!
  10. Yeah I've been lurking NeoGAF lately because Kotaku has been unreadable for ages now and you dudes don't post enough here, but it's a real mixed bag.
  11. People were doing it today on NeoGAF. I would like to get some sort of PC gaming. This gen I had a 360/PS3/Wii but I feel like my basis could be better covered with a PS4/Wii U/PC. Most of the Xbone games I'm interested in, like Titanfall are also coming to PC.
  12. Yeah maybe, I still here a ton of people complaining about updating drivers and what not. I don't know, I'll hold off on purchasing anything until after these Steam Machines hit the market. This could be an affordable way to get into PC gaming, then if all I need to is figure out how to install Windows while not overwriting SteamOS...
  13. A little disappointing, I was hoping to get pictures, specs, and all those juicy details. A beta that, like Dean said, we all pretty much have no chance of getting into, is a bit underwhelming... but I'm excited about this technology. EDIT: This title should be changed to Steam Machine ... or Steam Machines?
  14. You can sign up for the Steam Machine beta now.
  15. Great first episode! Hopefully we see J. August Richards again as I'm a big fan of Angel and thought he did a good job in this episode. Good balance between tying things into the Marvel universe and having the show stand on it's own, the connection to Iron Man 3 was a good way of making it feel part of a larger universe but if you'd never seen IM3 before it wasn't like you' done confused. An interesting thing to note that is besides Maria Hill (and Coulson who's now in the comics) every character was original. I can see they might not want to use up a Luke Cage, She Hulk, or Daredevil on an unproven TV show but if this thing becomes popular enough maybe we'll see someone like Carol Danvers or Jessica Drew pop up. Another thing I know I've mentioned before, but I'd really love to see Thor/Captain America/Peter Quill/etc for just one episode around the time those movies open, could be a great way to promote the new films. But for now I'm happy with original characters.
  16. Wasn't it our good friend FLD who couldn't get Ass Creed 3 running on his computer? That guys like 3x smarter than me, so if he can't figure it out, I'm totally doomed.
  17. As someone who isn't a PC gamer what is appealing about this to you so far? Basically at this point it is: 1) An OS you install on a HTPC to play some games natively and stream the rest from your current gaming PC 2) An OS you install onto a gaming worthy PC and give up anything released for Windows with the incentive that AAA support is coming. 3) An OS you dual-boot alongside Windows. To put things into perspective there's under 200 native-Linux games on Steam with AAAs apparently coming next year. But obviously you won't see many (if any) devs porting their old games over unless this gets huge. That would also not apply to DirectX-powered games. Honestly, unless they get some sort of crazy built-in WINE solution I don't think this is enough to appeal widely just yet. It's a start but once you actually sit down and imagine how you would use it you see that it's limited (or really expensive.) I definitely see this appealing to the crowd who have a computer in one room and don't want to run a 50 foot HDMI cord into another. I'm not in that crowd currently but I would have considered it in my previous apartment. Like I said.. if this catches on. I don't like the Windows OS, I haven't used one I like since XP, and I'm not a fan of the direction Windows is heading as a platform. So if in the next few years, most PC games are being brought to the SteamOS, I'm open to the idea of having a computer solely running SteamOS, as gaming is all I'd ever end up doing on a PC since I have an iPad and a MacBook to due all my websurfing, music downloading, recording, video editing on. Or if nothing else, because it's free, I could install it on my MacBook, nothing to lose. Still doesn't fix some of my major issues with PC gaming in general; compatibility issues with hardware, controller support, etc... but we'll see what Valve has to offer tomorrow.
  18. I hereby declare: if SteamOS catches on, I will get into PC gaming!! But only if most major games and high profile indie titles (looking at you, Cube World) make it to the platform.
  19. Wait, so I'm confused. Can the SteamOS actually run games itself or is the thing useless if you don't have a gaming PC? I just want to enjoy PC gaming without the Windows aspect EDIT: Ah Kotaku had it written up better than IGN. I really hope Skyrim is one of those games being built for SteamOS. I'd seriously to try that game on PC.
  20. A no-brainer but nice to see officially confirmed!
  21. I too picked up GTA V. I tried to hold out but I got sucked in by the hype train why? Because I'm a goddamn sucker, that's why. That said it deserves of all the accolades, it's a great game. I'd love to see this on PC/PS4, it'd look great I'm sure.
