  1. GameInformer mentioned it in their preview a few days ago, but yeah, if they announced this way back in June/July when everyone was really in panic mode over the DRM, they'd have won a few people over rather than quietly slipping it in the back door like this. Always-Online should be just for the network regions and global economy, but you're limited to classic SimCity/Sandbox mode offline. Anyone with half a brain cell would see this as the ideal solution. Granting access to new features by gating them behind a network connection rather than restricting core elements by locking them in would certainly be more encouraging to an "on the fence" customer such as yourself and Ethan.
  2. Yeah, the winter events basically had a bunch of fun stuff scattered around the game world, but the main "story" of the event was told via dungeon-like instances. I'd imagine they're sticking to the same formula with this.
  3. Deus Ex Human Revolution. Since apparently I'm a horrible human being for not having it.
  4. I played it in September and wasn't a fan of the camera moving too fast if you're running towards someone and you hold (I think) R1 to go into the precision mode. Felt the camera should have been grounded, or at least had the sensitivity turned down a bit for situations like that. It was a pretty fun game, but I can't see myself paying full-retail for it. Will wait patiently for Ground Zeroes instead.
  5. I wouldn't mind taking it off your hands. Sent, check your DMs.
  6. Got my first character (human thief) to level 80 a few days ago, not finished the "story" quests yet, but have been doing some WvW skirmishes. ... that is, until a clan of ~1200 Russians joined an opposition server (I'm on Whiteside Ridge (EU) ) and we've been steamrolled ever since.
  7. I signed up for the beta ages ago. Found out from their Facebook page that the beta is basically the same first hour of the game over and over again just to stress-test the DRM servers. So, I guess if any of you wants a beta key still, if I get invited I'll give you mine. Because after finding that out, being allowed in would only bum me out that the gameplay time is that short, and I'd likely have to download the same 10GB worth of game again when the final version comes out.
  8. Specific rule servers are the WORST. I remember not long after buying Battlefield 3 I wound up on an Operation Metro Conquest 24/7 server that banned explosives. No grenades, grenade launchers, RPGs or claymores. It made the escalators between B and C an incredibly obvious choke point and nobody was moving anywhere. The only redeeming thing about it was sitting behind a wall at the bottom of some stairs constantly planting down medkits and ammo boxes and racking up 15000+ scores without so much as firing a single bullet myself. Certainly not my idea of fun, I can tell you that.
  9. FLD's right, you can just not advance the main story at all by not doing prioritized research mandates and not building stuff that it says you should. That being said however, I'd try to do as much of it as you can in the early stages, and try to get satellites over a small 2-3 country continent to exploit their group bonuses. You'd be surprised how fast you can skim through a bunch of research just by having instant interrogations and autopsies active from South America. Last time I played it, I stalled but I'm hoping when I get back to playing it that I can get it done ASAP because I'd really rather not do that mission with a bunch of Cyberdisks and Muton Bezerkers around.
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Brx_TFccNu0 How have I not heard about this until tonight? BRB, looking for an English dub.
  11. PC Competitive Burnout Paradise Just Cause 2 (when the JC-MP servers are up) Battlefield 3 Europa Universalis 3 Civilization 5 (+ Gods & Kings) XCOM Frozen Synapse GTA IV Co-Op Saints Row The Third Magicka Borderlands 1 Terraria Minecraft Guild Wars 2 Jamestown I also have CS:S and TF2, but don't very much fancy reinstalling either of these, since they update far more often than I actually play them. PS3 Gran Turismo 5 Uncharteds 2 and 3 Mortal Kombat Red Dead Redemption Max Payne 3 NHL 12 Modern Warfare 2 SSX Rock Band (2, 3, Blitz and The Beatles) WWE 13 and some PSN stuff that I don't know/remember off the top of my head
  12. FTL suffers from the exact same problem that XCOM suffers from: if you name your characters/ship after people you know and love, you're gonna have a bad time. That being said, my best run was done with a ship named after Devolver Digital, with the starting crew named for Fork parker and the Hotline Miami devs. Still never finished it though, even on Easy. Brilliant game though, losing be damned.
  13. If the PC installation is anything to go on, it'll be a lot more than 12GB. I just looked at my Battlefield 3 folder in Program Files, and the whole lot's just shy of 30GB. That's astounding, when you think about it.
  14. I already have my SimCity 4 DVD and someone gifted me it on Steam. Whoever wants it can have it.
  15. Looking at it, I'm getting a strange "Metal Gear Rising" vibe from it. It looks like it might have menus, but the way the commands are laid out, it could be that if you get close enough to engage an enemy in battle mode, they correspond to the four face buttons. You can probably use the shoulder buttons to hot-swap in new commands on the fly as well, I'd imagine. I'm still not totally convinced, but at this early stage, the game mechanics look interesting enough that I'd want to at least give it a go.
  16. Yeah, maybe I shouldn't be too harsh on it, seeing as I didn't play XIII-2 at all, which according to many, is a considerable improvement over the first. It'd be like me wading into an Assassin's Creed thread, saying I've only played the first one and thought it was pretty meh, while failing to acknowledge that it indeed has gotten better over time. (I've played 3 briefly at Eurogamer Expo and liked it) So this video, is it actually still on the internet anywhere at all then?
  17. I found it to be the least captivating Final Fantasy universe, so their persistence in making something out of it, while admirable, is still rather futile. Did many people buy XIII-2 in comparison to the first one at all?
  18. Seconded. I've been waiting maybe 10 years for this game, I'm not backing out now, even if it could very well be the Duke Nukem Forever of the series.
  19. I'm hoping Premium goes on sale for Christmas, might finally pick it up. I know that even at €45 it's still gonna be worth its price, but that's an entire new game though. If I can get it down to €30 anywhere I'll be pretty happy with that. Edit: picked it up for €32 with GreenManGaming's 30% discount code.
  20. I'm a guitar noob too, and Rocksmith piqued my interest as a sorta "learning tool+" investment. I learned how to read tabs and stuff long before I ever got a guitar, so kinda taught myself how to go from there to actually playing the music. I'm not terrible, but I'm still below average, I'd guess. Might pick it up next year if there's a lull window for quality games coming out (unlikely with the phenomenal Q1 coming up next year). EDIT: I just finished Pokémon Conquest on the DS. It's gone from rank outsider to damn-near-if-not GOTY for me. I shit you not, it's awesome. Only finished the main story, but there's a megaton of New Game+ content to keep me going for a long time yet.
  21. Doesn't ship to Europe Anyone want to buy it for me and mail it over? PS3 version. I don't know how I can pay it back, but I guess I could gift a Steam game of similar value. EDIT: Good call, was £25 again today. Didn't miss it this time!
  22. If anyone wants to grab it, Darksiders 2 is on Amazon UK's Black Friday upcoming list, TONIGHT at 7:44pm GMT. Just missed WWE 13 by a few hours. Gutted I didn't remember about this starting earlier.
  23. Has Lewie actually contacted Nintendo UK to verify that this guy actually does represent them? Because having SEO in his signature just looks like someone desperate to get people to sign up for whatever dodgy adclick scheme he's got going, and getting his spiel published would certainly grant them a foothold. And you know that SEO people never actually read the sites that they randomly target. I'm surprised they got Lewie that far to be honest, I'd have expected him to just laugh in their face and tell them to take a hike. As for MCV, oh boy, seems they can't do anything right these days. Thing is, since they're industry-centric instead of consumer-based, they've got all the PR people on their side, so they've had people from different companies taking their side and attacking John Walker and the like for (rightfully) calling them out on their bullshit. In other MCV news, I heard they quietly let Lauren Wainwright go. Unsurprising after "Doritosgate" really, but for MCV to step from one hot mess right into another, doesn't bode well for them at all.
  24. I never knew The Iron Sheik was a PC gamer.
  25. XCOM Enemy Unknown for PC, £14.95/€19.29, PC-DVD Delivered (Zavvi - not the best of reps recently but worth a risk at that price) Dishonored for PC for £18.98 (Amazon - SavyGamer had noted it was £10 earlier today, but that's still a bargain)
