  1. Read these earlier, and I'm actually really looking forward to this hotshotting between characters business. I bet they're gonna come up with some swish picture-in-picture transition cinematics for when you do it during the missions, to give it a more movie-like presentation, akin to Max Payne 3 without the painkillers'n'alcohol blur effects of course.
  2. Surprising he didn't bring up the day 1 firmware update, something which while I'm not surprised that it is happening, still astounds me. Software I can get the gist of, but needing a firmware update for unreleased hardware? Nintendo really did just scrape this thing to squeak over the Christmas finish line, huh.
  3. Bad news if you're an FTL player holding out for native netbook resolutions. Justin Ma (one of the devs) just replied to an e-mail I sent asking them about it, and they said it won't happen, as 1280x720 as a minimum resolution is hard-coded into the core of the game and can't be changed.

...that is, without making a big event of it or unduly burdening yourself to carry it around.

Yeah I got a desktop for my desktop shit and a netbook for my portable shit. Sure I can't photoshop worth a damn on my netbook, but I can sit in the living room n watch tele n browse the net.

Yeah, when my old laptop crapped out I just got an android tablet to replace it (which isn't a netbook, but I got it for the same reason). It lets me browse the internet and check e-mail and stuff from the couch, and if I want to do anything serious I can go get on my desktop.

  4. I'm kind-of in a bad place when it comes to "Games from 2012 that I've finished2, but I have finished a few games this year. LIST SO FAR: Cave Story+ Hotline Miami Magicka Saints Row: The Third (not done DLC yet, but main story's a wrap) SSX Max Payne 3
  5. I don't mind the game, it's my first MMORPG, but my friends are way ahead of me in terms of levels (they're 50-something and I'm 35), but so far, despite them being on the same server as myself, it's just felt like a singleplayer game with everyone else in the same instance. Perhaps it's because I haven't tackled any of the dungeons yet, but there's no real sense of party co-ordination about the game at all. I'll probably persist and trudge on through it, but I don't know if I'll be bothered rolling a new character once I hit Level 80 or finish the main story. I'm on Whiteside Ridge (EU server), if anyone else is on there.
  6. I think you goofed Dean, that left screenshot's from GTA Advance, not GTA1. That HUD is from the "3-series".
  7. It's funny you should be talking about this, Ben (DukeOfPwn here, iirc) tweeted this from LazyGamer about Dishonored having at least one obviously-easy solution per level because the playtesters hadn't the brains or the sense to push the boundaries to look for different ways of reaching the same end-goal. He also linked this from Hitman Absolution director Tore Blystad who also bemoans people's unwillingness to stray from the beaten path to find new solutions, simply because they're conditioned to not find anything or get a fail-state if they do. I remember way back in the original Grand Theft Auto 1, one of the earliest missions had you being the bag-man dropping a briefcase of money off for a drug deal. What the game didn't tell you, was that you could kill the guy who was coming to collect the money and pocket it all yourself instead of letting him just walk away and get a score multiplier for completing the mission. You had to choose between a substantial points boost, or the score multiplier, but it never actively stated that, you had to figure it out for yourself. Considering back then, you had to get high scores with limited lives to unlock new cities and missions, it was a tough decision to make.
  8. My forum signature's really making me miss the NHL all over again. God damn it.

I've tried watching a few games, and while playing NHL Be A GM modes means I'm familiar enough with the minor leagues, I just can't seem to get into it at all, really. And I don't have ESPN America. :/

  9. No? Don't know what gave you that impression, but PSVita's a completely separate beast from Android. Completely different UIs and firmware.
  10. Review is up. I highly doubt they'll be bringing it anywhere outside PC/Mac just yet. It was made entirely with Game Maker, so if they do console versions, they're going to have to start from scratch because GameMaker only supports home computers, iOS and Android. They already have someone separate as it is working on tidying up the Mac version for release. It wouldn't make financial sense. Unless someone (Devolver?) were to sponsor and gifts them a PlayStation SDK, because they sure don't grow on trees.
  11. GTA4 already had the iFruit Phone.
  12. The thing is though, how profitable and popular are game franchises that are exclusively on mobile and tablet platforms, either as franchises that stand on their own, or extensions of existing console/PC franchises that offer up unique experiences? Probably not many. Angry Birds would be the obvious answer to the first one, and perhaps Real Racing, Temple Run (and its many reskinned iterations), or Infinity Blade would get honourable mentions, but take those out of the equation and what have you? Not many games that give you a true AAA-esque experience while being totally comfortable with the fact that it isn't on a console. Need For Speed Most Wanted seems like it's getting good reaction on handhelds and phones atm, and Borderlands Legends looks pretty good so far, so there's clearly a market for this stuff, but in no way does that detract from consoles at all. Both can co-exist, and perhaps be better off for it. The game console is far from dead yet, but if it does die, it won't be tablets that land the fatal blow. On that note, I just had a thought that aside from it being about 13GB or so, an iPad or Windows Surface or equivalent should be perfectly capable of running XCOM with Unreal Engine 3. 2K needs to make this happen yesterday. Strip cutscenes and just give me straight-up boardgame mechanics. I'd buy five.
  13. I think they learned their lesson with Max Payne 3: Get it out on PC early and people will still buy it. If it's not a simultaneous PC release, it'll be at most within 2 months, I'd bet. Either way, it's the usual April/May Rockstar release that's been par for the course this generation (GTA4 was April, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire and Max Payne 3 were all May, iirc). Game Informer announcing an 18-page feature bonanza this coming issue pretty much confirmed it before the pre-order posters even needed to.
  14. Probably not that well, since they're trying to sell 3 (4? I dunno which "Trilogy" this is, but i assume it's not including Rio) 89c games from a phone for €34.99. I tweeted that on the 14th. Can't imagine it's changed since. Activision: says it all really.
  15. Most of the bugs are fixed now, gamepad support's coming in the next update, but no word on when the Steam overlay's gonna be working though. But oh man - what an awesome game. Anyone here finished it? Because I'm finding the post-game threads and theories to be fascinating. PXOD review (from yours truly) is coming real soon. Won't go into detail, but I'll say this: I'm probably going to regurgitate most of it once the Game Of The Year talk starts happening in December. That's not even an exaggeration.
  16. I know they do, I just decided to not post them at all, because it's both not really a plot detail but it's an important part of a scene that I don't want to get into too much detail with.
  17. You'll blaze through it in about 3 or 4 hours. Bloody tremendous game. Literally, bloody. I know a lot of people are starting to call out the hyperbole surrounding it, and if you follow me on Twitter at all, you'll know I've barely shut up about it over the last week or so, but it's well worth it. It's hardly ground-breaking stuff, but it's just so much fun that you forget about looking for something new.
  18. Skyfall was pretty darn amazing. Lived up to the hype There's one glaringly obvious gaffe in it though. It won't affect how you see the film, though, as it's really only a minor detail. Won't say what it is because ***SPOILERS***
  19. To be fair though, I'm kinda glad Kotaku's not weighing in on this, because, Kirk Hamilton maybe aside, I don't think any of their regular staff are really good at "news" news, per se. The above picture's really unwarranted juxtaposition, especially since the article in question hadn't even been posted at that time (Oct 22, when the Halo thing got posted in that screencap), and while I don't hate them as much as I used to, using that particular image to call them out is more than a tad unfair to them.
  20. I remember watching RhinoCrunch's video explaining how it's a scam and that scared me off it. He can be a bit of a douchebag, but good to hear he's right.
  21. Seems 8/8:30 GMT seems to work for pretty much everyone, so I guess then.
  22. Bumping for maybe Thursday/Friday? How does that suit people? (null)
  23. This year was a pretty awesome for game music, but my 2 favourites would have to be "Triumph" from Frozen Synapse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnlQvdvIiZo And "The Sole Regret" from Bastion. Hard to pick one song out of both those games, but those 2 had the best soundtracks this year for me, personally.
  24. If I can afford to over-spec it at the time, i usually do. If I can't afford everything I usually tend to buy the fully-customisable suspension and gearbox first, then if it's particularly heavy (as pickups tend to be), weight reduction. It doesn't really matter whether you win the race or not, I've never been one to worry about win% so might as well finish losing battles. Money's money, not worth restarting/quitting just because you're not in 1st when you cross the line. In B-Spec I always go for the overpowered option (X2010 excluded, except endurance races), just to be on the safe side. but if I'm driving myself, I like to rotate my cars and give everything a drive, as long as it's reasonably competitive PP-wise. By right, there should be experience bonuses for competing in cars closer to the average PP of the rest of the pack, or have a par PP so there's a definite over/under point at which you'll get more/less XP per race. Forza has this to an extent, with less driving assists resulting in more money, and it's something I really like about that series and would love to see carried over.
