Could be worse. You could have socialized medicine where you have to wait weeks to see the doctor, and the doctor doesn't even need to be good or give the best of care. Most of my doctor visits have been good. Where I have the most problems is visiting the PA. Those guys know a little bit, but don't know enough. To make matters worse, in CA there have been a rash of bills lately that the state has rejected as law. These bills want to "to expand scope of practice for non-physician practitioners -- physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, optometrists and pharmacists." The reason none of these bills pass is that every knows that using voodoo in place of medicine is the dumbest thing you can do (LOOKING AT YOU MIDWIVES!).

Despicable Me 2. The plotline is predictable, like a typical romanitc comedy, but the minions and the cuteness throughout the movie make up for the obvious-going-to-happen.

Speaking of fires burning in the hills, the idiots in our state assembly (just the stupid ones, not all) have passed a property fire tax on anyone living above 3500 ft. So, the assumption is that fires only happen to anyone living above 3500 ft, regardless of fire hi. And, the state fire department, during the time of this measure going through, hid their $3.6 million dollar surplus. Whoops! Where did that money come from? Idk! Of course, since most of the more influential population of voters live in earthquake zones, we will never see this kind of tax for those who live in earthquake-prone areas, like San Francisco, LA, or San Diego. This will only affect those who make up a small percentage of voters whose votes don't really add up enough to offset anything. Meanwhile, this is being challenged in the courts, because it's a tax increase, and the necessary process for tax increase approvals was not met. No injunction has been made by the courts, and the first tax bills are about to be sent out on the 15th of this month.

Considering that back in college I had some classmates that were gay, but only some of us would spend time with them, society has changed a lot. Of course, that was in the 90's. There are a million reasons to not do tax law. First, you have the letter of the law. Laws are specific in language, yet sometimes even that can be vague. Next, you have the IRS interpretation. They are not always right and have way too much power for a government entity. Finally, you have the court interpretation of said laws and policies. The court rulings are really the best way to practice taxes (should you be a CPA with clients who have deep pockets they need to protect). But, even court rulings get overturned. That's why you pay someone else to do your taxes.

Monsters University. Better than I expected. The film does feel slowish in the middle, but has a nice ending to bring it back to the good category, as it could have easily slid into an okay movie.
