  1. It's an E3 demo. They threw it together to have something to show, it's probably not even going to be in the game. I hope it's nice and open, Far Cry 2, other than the mentioned flaws, was one of the best shooters of this gen, but judging based on that demo isn't gonna get you anywhere. It worries me, though. That article Dean linked touts the "Linear Missions, Open-Ended Environments" of Far Cry 3, and that is definitely not what I want. If they make it a "open world, but then all your missions are linear and scripted" type of thing I will be sorely disappointed. One of the things that was amazing about Far Cry 2 was that your missions took place out in the world, and if one went to shit you could just take a jeep and high tail it out of there to anywhere in the giant open world.
  2. I love Far Cry 2, but I'm still sort of skeptical about this. If they do it right, it'll be a great game, but they could mess it up in so many ways possible. The demo from a little while back (E3 maybe) scared me with its linearity.

Whitney Houston died! The Mayans were right (about Crack being Whack)

  4. I don't know about anyone else, but I haven't really been challenged by a Mass Effect game since Mass Effect 1, so that comes as no real surprise. Mass Effect 2 was really easy.
  5. Magicka. Took me and 3 friends about 5 hours in 2 sittings. And man, that game, even if it is buggy as hell and stupid difficult in parts is just really fun to play with friends. Although I wish the boss battles were a little more thought out. It took us about 15 seconds to beat the last boss after fighting with the one before for a good 5 minutes.
  6. Watched In The Loop today. Excellent movie, like the Office mixed with The West Wing.

You should try 'the thick of it' which is the TV series that the film is based on.

Agreed. In fact, you should try anything on which Sam Bain & Jesse Armstrong have writing credits.

Also, look out for a TV series called 'Veep' coming in April. Supposed to be a lot like In The Loop and with a lot of the same people involved.

  7. Not even sure how to describe this movie. I guess it's a political comedy of sorts, but I feel it doesn't do it justice to describe it like that. It's so snappy with its dialogue, and the characters are all acted so well, it kind of feels like a mix between the British version of The Office and The West Wing. Plus it's streamable on Amazon for prime subscribers. I recommend it.
  8. We're a federalism, not a confederacy. Regardless of how you feel it should be done, that's not how this country was designed, and it's not what the constitution and the establishment of the United States of America was designed to accomplish, all the way back in the 1780s.
  9. Paul? He never had a chance, not against Romney and Gingrich. I wish he did, as he's the only Republican candidate out of all of these I'd vote for, but I think most people have been thinking it'll come down to Romney vs. Obama regardless.
  10. Free to play? Okay, I guess. http://playhawken.com/?ref=7jjekkjl Edit: Added a referral link, and didn't notice yours, MetalCaveman. Should've used it...
  11. Thinking of buying Starcraft 2 on Amazon. Worth $40? Should I take the plunge?

No. Wait until the entire game is released.

Yeah, I kind of decided to just wait for Heart of the Swarm and see if I can pick up Wings of Liberty on the cheap. Terran was always my least favorite race in MP anyway, and I think I'll need the SP campaign to get myself un-rusted again.

It's easily the most solid multiplayer RTS on the market, and if you're interested in online play it's well worth that asking price.

Though if you want to play it for the campaign, you might as well wait for the expansions.

  12. Had this on Xbox back when I had an Xbox, but because it was $5 on the Steam Daily Deal and because I have been thoroughly enjoying Dirt3 I figured I should pick this up.
  13. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I paid slightly more for it during the holiday sale and I wasn't. It's shallow but very, very fun action game. That's what I'm hoping for. If I can get 6 hours out of the campaign + whatever out of the horde mode and mp I'll be happy. Also picked up Dawn of War 1, because, hey, why not.
  14. Cheap, from the steam sale. Had my eye on it for a while, and figured 17 bucks was a pretty good price.
  15. Creative Writing class homework for tomorrow apparently involves sharing first kiss stories. What could possibly go wrong.

It was sweeter than I expected... and it felt like it must have lasted a whole minute. It was just what I needed at the time, I just didn't realize it. To think, I had gone my whole life without experiencing this joy... and that's how my addiction to Hershey's chocolate got started.

If I were to write it, it would be this short: Was 13, tried to kiss her, but fell instead. My lips kissed the pavement. My first kiss was extremely unpleasant and bloody.

      If I didn't care about the class/classmates, I probably would've written a Penthouse-esque sex fantasy.

  16. I must say, that screenshot looks a lot like a more serious, less cartoony version of the environments in Bulletstorm, which I absolutely loved. If they can pull off that kind of environment half as well as Bulletstorm did it'd make the game instantly better. I'm a sucker for living, breathing levels.
  17. I see that as the meat of the problem with the whole "it's a person from conception" argument. Ask anyone here if they think a lump of cells without a heart, without a brain, without arms and legs, and without any sort of cognitive activity is a person, and they'd obviously say no. Yes, of course a fetus is going to develop into a person, but just because it's going to doesn't mean that you're engaging in killing a person. Every time you eat a chicken egg you're not killing a chicken.
  18. Ah, see, I live in the middle of nowhere as far as package delivery goes, so it becomes 2 days instead of 4 or 5 for me. To me, Prime seems mostly worth it for those that have a Kindle or watch a lot of instant video and order a lot of packages. Otherwise I'm not quite sure of the value.
  19. That seems pretty silly to me. It's kinda tough, but it's nowhere NEAR as tough as Dark/Demon's Souls. I feel like Far Cry 2 was a pretty interesting game that ultimately wasn't varied enough. The formula gets too repetitive after a bit, and you get tired of it. The core systems are very interesting, however. The gun upkeep is underused, but fun, the health system is quite good, the missions are fairly fun... it does a lot right. I just wish it had kept things fresh throughout. Yeah, I don't see it completely either, as the checkpointing is completely and utterly different, but the damage, what with you taking as many bullets as the enemy and dying really quickly may be sort of where that idea comes from. Definitely worth picking up for free, though, to answer the question.
  20. Amazon Prime is amazing. I haven't torrented an e-book or a TV show in a long time, just because of Amazon Prime. I don't have Netflix (nor do I have any desire to get it), but I pay $40 a year for Prime with the student discount, but because of the Kindle learning library and the instant video. The libraries for both could be better, but they are growing, and right now they all have I really want. Once again, back to piracy being a service issue.
  21. Doesn't PXoD have some sort of a google docs thing going on? That'd be great for this, perhaps.
  22. I think Far Cry 2 is fantastic, but it's definitely not for everybody. It gets a lot of flak on the internet for a few things, one being the amount of driving, plus the amount of checkpoints that you usually have to drive through that keep respawning, and the second being the amount of bullets that the enemies take is the exact same amount that you take. To put it simply, you die with 10 bullets, and your enemies die with 10 bullets. I personally think it's a really neat element, and makes the game incredibly challenging at the end, with you having to check and scout every area before you attack, making sure you eliminate snipers and grenade launching vehicles before you run in and attack everybody. I've heard it called the Dark Souls of FPSs, and I think that makes some sense. Of course, I recommend it, but if you want a nice, happy, open world where not everybody is hostile to you, it's not that game. It has its flaws.
