  2. It's not just that though. It's the overall tone. For the most part, Uncharted games are much lighter, zippier. In Uncharted, if something you're climbing on falls apart you think (or Drake will say) "Oh, crap!" and then something chaotic but generally harmless will occur. Whereas, with Tomb Raider, you're thinking "Oh, crap, what do I have to avoid being impaled on now?" If pushed, I would actually say I preferred Tomb Raider to Uncharted, but I still think those games offer something that TR can't.
  3. Obviously comparisons can be made, that's not my point. Just that I got different things from both games/series. I can go away from an Uncharted game thinking back on the adventure, the setpieces, the characters and overall charm. I go away from Tomb Raider appreciating the gameplay, animation and mechanics while thinking the characters and story were a bit crap.
  4. I wouldn't say it's better than Uncharted because it's a different kind of experience. Uncharted delivers a charming, Indiana Jones-style story, with adventure and bigger setpieces whereas Tomb Raider has a cool metroidvania style, with more refined gameplay (dat cover system). To make an odd analogy in terms of general gameplay, it would be like comparing God of War to the Batman: Arkham games.
  5. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows I saw the first one not long after it first came out and actually quite liked it. It was a fresh, exciting take on the characters and a very entertaining, if only slightly flawed, watch. Downey Jr. and Law make for a really good double act. This one maintains a lot of those elements to great effect, though at times I think it goes a little bit far with the stylistic touches. It was good and I think the ending was well done in a Sherlock style, even if it was a little too clever for its own good when it came to minor details. Just a shame it was lacking in its amount of Rachel McAdams, and Noomi Rapace's character never really made an impact. I do hope they make another though.
  6. So, usual slow start to the year, but I'm looking forward to a few games now, even though some may not be definite day one purchases. In no particular order: - TMNT: Out of the Shadows - Fuse - Watch Dogs - GTA V - The Last of Us - Beyond: Two Souls I've probably forgotten something too.
  7. There is a map. You have to pull from the left of the screen to show it (from the right brings up Action Replay). Problem is those controls aren't shown from the main menu. While in a race, pause the game and hit the '?' for that explanation, along with some other things it would've been handy to know beforehand (like repairing and recovering). Unlike the original though, you can't continue playing while the map's up; the original put a little moveable window that showed a shrunken view of the action. That might be due to not all control schemes allowing, I don't know. The 'spinny camera' is something you just sort of get used to. I feel it adds to the tension of when you get turned around during a scrap so you're not sure if someone's going to come smash into while you're trying to reorient yourself, but I can see how it might be annoying for general racing. As I said before, the AI does seem a little more aggressive/suicidal than in the original (and your own car a little tougher). Before, you'd have the smaller, weaker cars more focused on actually racing and it was only when you attacked them that they might start fighting back. When police along with huge dump trucks/SUVs/jeeps start showing up, that's when things get a little tougher. I know the sequel made it more apparent with an aggression level indicator or something, and it worked a bit better there. Overall though, I find it a good port. It captures a lot of the essence of the old game and they've ever so slightly tweaked the controls to make it a little easier to steer (it's still very physics-governed rather than arcadey though).

No, they're actually going to expose four turtles to nuclear waste.

  11. And now the thread's mine. ALL MINE! MWAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!
  12. Oh, really? If I go to 'Topics I've Started' in my profile I only see one. I just assumed some housecleaning had taken place.
  13. It's better is why. I still think the first 'section' is too long though. In personal news, I gave Warface a go. It seems pretty fun, nice feel to it, and a cool aesthetic going on. Only done some pretty basic missions, so I assume it gets hectic and harder later on. I just need to figure how to do anything in the confusing-ass menus except change the colours on my weapons.
  14. I beat Borderlands 2 yesterday. Got a bit tired of it by the end so was only playing in short sessions. I think I would've preferred playing as any other of the characters after all that, because there's never enough friggin' sniper rifle ammo and the melee tree is pretty useless until you get to a higher level. Ultimately, it meant I had to play fairly cautiously most of the time, and go scavenging for ammo whenever I didn't have easy access to the vending machines. And it was especially annoying when I went through the whole slog of the final bit to discover I couldn't beat the final boss thanks to a glitch and had to completely replay it another evening. Fortunately, that formerly-glitched part was fairly easy and I think the final boss was an OK challenge. Now I have about 57 golden keys and not sure whether to try and get to level 50...
  15. I don't think it's quite the same, but Brutal Legend has that really cool menu screen.
  16. Oh, I remembered the other one from the first time I made this thread: inFAMOUS. That was a really cool opening, with that splash screen, then you press Start and BOOOOM! And then mystery!
