Yeah, I was hoping they were going to do a completely new thing but alas...
-
Well, new Wolverine is post-Last Stand (as you're probably aware) while Days Of Future Past is combining present and past X-Men characters, with the same actors.
-
I thought they were all supposed to be connected. Anyway, this looks...entertaining.

That could be a new slogan. "Xbox One: Assume The Worst"

My powers of regeneration must have erased all those mental scars.

For some reason, I'm still thinking a Wolverine film could be good. Anyway, decided to link a load of stuff that caught my eye, even if it's not particularly new. Next film from the 'Drive team'. Kristin Scott Thomas is unrecognisable and friggin' scary. Looks like standard uplifting indie fare, but it's directed by the writers of The Descendants (aka. Community's Dean and his partner). Also...Sam Rockwell. No more needs to be said. Also, this might be good? http://www.nerdist.com/2013/05/new-red-band-trailer-for-the-kings-of-summer/

So, apparently, there's this. http://www.edge-online.com/news/xbox-one-will-require-internet-connection-all-games-must-be-installed/ And it won't work without Kinect. Dead. In. The. Water.

Yeah, he's in the latest batch of screenshots too. And while a pre-rendered trailer is cool and all (like the other Arkham one), it does nothing for me. As long as the game retains what made Arkham City great, I'd still be pleased though. Interesting if they included something like fighting thugs while staying out of Deadshot's line of sight (not that even that is supposed to be able to stop him). Troubling news about the voice actors though... http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2013/05/20/new-batman-arkham-origins-trailer-screenshots-as-new-voice-actors-are-revealed/

Tooth fairy?! I am extremely concerned about the microtransaction system for that game!

REM - Monster. Figured I'd like to hear some slightly different REM (seeing as I'd only heard the sole single release from the album). They can do no wrong. Chuck: Seasons 1-5 boxset. Had my eye on this for a while until it reached a reasonable price. Turns out Zavvi emailed me another 10% off code and were offering far better than Amazon anyway so: sold!

Heh, probably should've checked for an old Overstrike thread but I know Dean wanted us making new threads (or at least not making it so things have to be split). Honestly, I enjoyed the demo. I don't care about the visuals (which, originally, just looked like TF2 anyway), it's still got the same sort of humour/levity, and they've stated how the old weapon concepts actually kinda sucked and weren't fun. I wasn't really expecting anything truly original, but I do love third-person shooters for the most part. If you thought the game was going to play like a pre-rendered trailer (though it still retains a lot of the key aspects shown), then I really don't know what to say... I felt the controls performed well, as I was able to zip about the battlefield quite efficiently, and the shooting was satisfying, whether you were sniping or getting up close with a shotgun. Nor did I find I needed to rely on online co-op; I was quite happy to play alone and be able to switch between characters, with the bots performing just fine. I'd recommend at least giving the first half of the gameplay commentary a quick watch, since it shows completely different stuff to the demo and may allow you to get a better handle on how it plays.

You say that like The Prestige cover is OK...

The only bit I recall moderately disliking was the temple with the 'challenge rooms' where it uses riddle-like names to tell you what things you can't do and resets if you use them.

New game from the makers of the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance series. It had fallen off my radar from when it was called Overstrike (that's still the team's name though), but having played the demo, I'm excited. It gives me a bit of the same vibe as I got from Resistance 2's co-op, but with combat a bit like Mass Effect 3 meets Uncharted, i.e. it's got some different combo-able (that's a word!) abilities mixed in with the shooting, and character movement is quite spry. Recent interview with the Insomniac Game's President and CEO, Ted Price, who even joined IGN Australia for a gameplay commentary. Seems like a pretty cool dude, and clearly pleased with what they've made. So, you've got your tank-y character with a shield (Dalton), your sniper (Jacob), your medic/debuffer (Izzy) and your rogue/has-a-gun-that-creates-singularities-er (Naya) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEKcqT0yX2s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYsNXVGL6W4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9VtYt0vHIk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGGWOgF0-Jg (You may notice that puts Liara and female Shepard alongside once more. Though, now the former doesn't sound irritating, while Hale's Bastila/fake British voice does). It actually works quite well in single-player too, with the bots picking up enough slack if upgraded properly (i.e. needs to be done manually), which is neat and actually means I might grab this on 360.

Star Trek Into Darkness. This one, like Iron Man 3, just nudges itself over 'OK' (and for pretty much the same reasons). Which is pretty good, considering that I thought the first film was boring, and how most people feel about Anne Hathaway is how I feel about Chris Pine. It's got the usual high production values, good cast, etc. but is hamstrung by a big, dumb script and only gets by on the relentless pace and charm. Considering the many incarnations already, there's nothing inherently wrong with it being fairly 'un-Star Trek' and, as far as I can tell, it tries to do something a little different anyway. That said, hopefully, they do a bit more with the premise in future and hire smarter screenwriters.

Went to the cinema, then bought some new clothes, and went browsing HMV for some deals and to finish off birthday shopping for sisters with some 'off-list' DVDs. ...however, I failed on that front. But I managed to get myself the following films: - X-Men: First Class (only £5 for triple-play!) - The Magicians - Catch-22 And I got my sister the fourth Thursday Next book, after I got her onto the series, thanks to a certain member here, whom I shall not and do not need to name.

Mister Jack put it as a status update...but no one seems to have seen it anyway.

Tomb Raider 2 traumatised me so much that I freak out if I know there are deadly things in the water. Should've seen me playing Oblivion, when I discovered a Slaughterfish...
