  1. Oh, I agree that it's not there as a bit of money while you're doing nothing more than applying to 'dream' jobs (if that is indeed the case) and I never got the sense she felt it was irrelevant. I'm going to have to plead ignorance to a lot of the JSA stuff since I've never used the scheme, but surely if there are these available jobs out there, then it should be putting these people in work. That's what I think needs an overhaul.
  2. I really, really liked The Last Wish, but Blood of Elves has a lot less substance since it's the first part of a massive saga. With the rate of the translations it might be quicker to learn Polish.
  3. I see what you're saying, but she already states that she had a relevant work experience placement with which it would interfere and that she was always seeking paid work. She says quite clearly: "I would grab a paid job in Poundland with both hands". I don't see it as her saying that people shouldn't be made to work, it's more why these available positions aren't being treated as actual employment. Isn't that what the system is for? EDIT: Meant to add a little more but was interrupted by work. One does get the sense of 'righteous indignation' from the piece but, regardless of personal circumstances, it sounds very much like the scheme needs looking at.
  4. It's tough to say. I'd never played a 3D Sonic and did not like the idea. Hell, I was even a little put off by the demo, at first. As I saw a bit more about the game it grew on me, though, and I actually wound up liking it for the most part (still, fuck, Crisis City Zone). For me, there was just a fairly long adjustment period. I think the effort that has gone into the level design really helps it though, and you can't really fail at the game (a Game Over just puts you back to the start of the stage with 5 lives). If they're dead set against 3D Sonic though, I'm not sure I'd recommend it based on the 2D stuff alone.
  5. T-Next, I'm sure you'll appreciate that not everyone is in the same position as you. Hell, in your own case you're talking about 3+ years ago; I'm assuming pre-recession. She even says she has always sought paid work and was already doing relevant work experience. I know my sister has been looking for exactly the same kind of job but it's tough to find anything. She has found work with my mum in the meantime; not everyone is that fortunate. Beyond that, Cait is making a much bigger point: the scheme is a complete fuck-up. These are not the companies to which labour should be going and this is not the right way to go about it. I'm not sure what her overall working hours were but £53 a week sounds low. It's like Dean says, at the very least, minimum wage should be in effect. I'd encourage you to read the entire thing again because you're a smart guy and it just seems odd to dismiss the overall argument based on the same misconceptions as Jan Moir and Vanessa Feltz. Quite frankly, I'm surprised at the vitriol.
  6. That sounds like a very good question. One definitely worth asking them.

  9. Hmm, well, in the case of 'Nokia' it's more like 'nokky-uh'. I think the 'r' sound is more of a dialect issue.
  10. I might have phrased that a bit poorly. I meant that Overlord was alright/good compared to an OK for Kasumi, although I have not played the latter. Kasumi sounded a bit more playful and interesting but short and inconsequential, while Overlord was stronger, as you said, but only became interesting towards the very end.
  11. If that's a discounted price, it might be alright. I don't have it (not gonna see a price drop on PC) but I seem to recall everyone who played it saying that it's not really worth it/full price (except maybe Ethan). The only DLC considered a must-have is Shadow Broker. I believe Kasumi is considered OK, and Overlord is alright but nothing special.

  13. Nope. He didn't. He's just a fan.
  14. Got around to pre-ordering the Collector's Edition of Mass Effect 3, and it's nice that it saw a £10 drop from before. Bit silly that it's referred to as the 'definitive' edition yet there are a couple of weapons you only get via pre-ordering on Origin. Nothing major but still dumb.
  15. Ha. Another friend of mine finished Arkham City yesterday too.
  16. Actually, that was a 1900 article on what 2000 would be like. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-16444966
  17. 'Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content.' Read as: 'Steam allows PC users to buy DLC at discounted prices during sales. Potentially, people could be paying half price for two-year-old DLC. THE MADNESS!'
