    So, our own VicariousShaner has his first day at high school tomorrow. That's 9th-12th grade, or about 14 years old through 17 or 18 years old, for those of you in countries with different school systems. Here's the deal: each of us gets to pack him one thing in a survival kit for high school. Post what you'd give him, and why, and a picture to make it colorful.     Wait wait wait... when did you get to play CSGO? If the trailer and early testers' information is sound, it's classic CS gameplay with a few small tweaks. No ironsights, lean, crawl, sprint, etc.

      Actually, when I said that I was mostly thinking of gamers' perception. It's been my experience that pc gaming communities feel that way in general. And if someone knows who Black Isle is, chances are they realise where Obsidian comes from.

       

      And no argument that Obsidian get more hate than they should. I actually consider them to be a good studio. I'm always at least intrigued when I hear about a project of theirs. But the thing about Alpha Protocol is that their first a...

      [cont.] But the thing about Alpha Protocol is that their first attempt at making an original title failed so hard and that makes it look like they're not good at creating a product from scratch as opposed to building upon someone else's foundations.

    Reading the books now, I'm about halfway through the first one, and I really don't see how a TV series could do it any sort of justice. Martin is very, very descriptive while avoiding some of the over-the-top Tolkienesque verbosity traps so many writers fall into, and the backstories and historical references seem very difficult to explain in a television medium. We'll see though. Does the first season cover the first book? I'll probably watch it when I finish AGOT.
