  1. Offline co-op is great as an option, even if not everyone uses it. Sure, online would be cool, but in games like this local is just better. I've also played Left 4 Dead in splitscreen on the PC, and more recently, Capsized in local co-op that was glorious.
  2. The campaign is short, to be sure. There are dozens of challenge levels, though, as well as a comedy mode that changes the story, unlockable difficulties that change enemy bullet patterns, and a crazy hard Gauntlet mode that challenges the player to beat all five levels in a row with 2 continues. More content would be nice, I suppose, but the quality of the game and what's included are easily worth $10.
  3. It's pretty seamless actually. One player can use the keyboard, one on the mouse, more on controllers. The devs even say you can plug in extra keyboards and mice and use those as separate input devices.
  4. It's a closed console system though, so the R770 may be fine. You can't equate it with PC hardware in any way. That's also just the chip. It's two generations of graphics cards more advanced than a 360, and assuming they modify the specs enough, should be significantly more powerful.
  5. Wow, Revanchist. Just... just wow. Cannot deny the sexiness factor though. 11/10.
  6. ^^ Favorite Dream Theater song. Great stuff. ---
  7. Ladies and gentlemen of TAY, I give you Jamestown. It's a 4-player local co-op scrolling shoot-em-up on the PC set in 1600's colonial Mars in 16-bit graphical style. If your head didn't explode from that sentence, you have no soul. NO SOUL. I've been burning through the campaign this weekend for an upcoming PXOD review, and it's stellar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QV87Qfcsdr0
  8. Jamestown is a delight so far, easily worth the $9 on Steam

The TotalBiscuit video was fantastic. I've played 1942, but I've never really played a crazy bullet hell shooter like that. Really considering it.

Did you get to try any co-op?

Yeah played co-op with my wife. It was brilliant.

Proof I'm on alcoholic: I read that as "Jameson" and was flabbergasted by the $9 until I saw the word "Steam."

  9. The wiimote is only line of sight for pointing applications. You can unplug the sensor bar and still play many games.
  10. About to review Jamestown. Favorite bullet point: "Brave the hostile Martian frontier armed with 1619’s finest steampunk weaponry."

  11. Tens of millions of dollars Twelve years in development 76 on Metacritic Only one DUKE
  12. It's not that classic or Wiimote controls wouldn't work, but it's just that the potential is more limited with only one. Man, it'd be so awesome to have 4-way Goldeneye on four different controllers, no more splitscreen. Big screen could be used for killcams, a map, or a scoreboard. There's just tons you could do... Heck, even with the one controller, with the right development effort I see some potential. I just fear it will be ignored.
  13. Final E3 round table. Now I need to take a nap. http://www.pressxordie.com/2011/06/10/round-table-ea-ubisoft-e3-2011/

6300 words according to Word Press... pop some popcorn and settle in!

  14. The Slag has entered the building, ladies and gentlemen. Everyone clear out. By the way we are moving the domain in the next month-ish so take note! http://board.pressxordie.com/topic/1172-important-readme/
  15. Hi Slag. Good to see you here! Consoles tend to get a higher volume of modern, AAA output because that's where the money is. But the indie development scene on the PC is amazing; plus, for the most part, PCs are entirely backward compatible to 15-20 years ago, so the games library is just staggering. Just re-installed TIE Fighter, in fact.
  16. Not so much different tbh. On 90% of games you're moving around on a 2D plane, so you only need fwd, bkwd, l n r. Apart from space sims n flight sims you're going to be just fine with WASD as you are with a thumbstick. It's less the directions you can travel as it is being able to control your speed easier than holding down Shift to run/walk. It's not a huge deal in most games, other than Splinter Cell-type games where the speed you move at is very important. But yeah, PC supports gamepads too, more types of gamepads in fact. Heck, if you want the best of both worlds, use a gamepad in your left hand and the mouse in your right!
  17. Welcome, Revanchist! It's been a while!
  18. It's just... ugh. So much wasted potential here. Step back for a second: if you like the Wii (which I do, warts and all), this is a brand new HD Wii successor, using Wii Motion + tech. Holy crap, sounds awesome! But... this whole screen controller thing is just souring everything about it to me. I almost feel that had that been left out, response would have been more positive. Ugh. I'm just kind bummed out about the whole thing.
  19. I like how he says porting to the PC is "not too bad," like I'm supposed to shell out $50 for "not too bad" of a port.
  20. PC gaming is easier, simpler, and cheaper than ever before. Is it as "simple" as hooking up an Xbox? Probably not, but it's close. At the same time, console gaming, as a result of taking on many features PCs have had for ages, such as updates, patches, online play, HD graphics, local storage, etc., has gotten more complex and costly than ever before. At this point it almost seems that consoles offer very little advantage over PCs while having taken on some of their rougher edges.
  21. No I don't think it has been mentioned Ahahahaha. I didn't see the new page had started.
