  1. I had some gift card money left, so instead of some video game I won't have time for I got the Back to the Future Trilogy for $20 and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Extended Version for $26 off Amazon. Sometimes waiting 6+ years helps out!
  2. If you told me that I would actively listen to Christmas music during the holidays, I'd call you insane. If you told me it was also original work, I'd think I was insane. Well, I guess I'm muy loco en la cabeza!
  3. I collected all the runes with a video walkthrough because some are quite out of the way. Not to mention that some only give you a single chance to collect them whereas other you'll be able to pass multiple times. And it wasn't for the trophy. You learn some interesting Norse mythology, like Ragnarok which plays a big part in the game's narrative. All you get for finding all the runes is dialogue from Senua's friend (I forget his name). My memory is a bit rusty, so I can't quite remember what he says to Senua. I believe it's about what one will do when they not only confront their darkness, but also confront themselves. And definitely one should take a break during the game. It gets quite stimulating on your mind with all the visual and audio hallucinations. Of course, that's what makes it such a memorable game and one I'll always recommend.
  4. Just saw Thor: Ragnarok. Absolutely loved it, which is amazing given how I've never really cared about Thor and neither of his movies have interested me. Haven't ranked the movies in a long time, but here goes: GotG Thor: Ragnarok Spider-Man: Homecoming Captain America Iron Man GotG Vol II Avengers CA: Winter Soldier CA: Civil War Avengers: Age of Ultron Doctor Strange Ant-Man Iron Man 2 Iron Man 3 The Incredible Hulk Thor Thor: The Dark World Maybe I need to see Winter Soldier again, but it doesn't rank as high for me as it does for you guys. I don't really have tiers either, though I would say Doctor Strange is the gatekeeper to the "OK" realm of Marvel movies. Most of my basis in this ranking, or even just my personal philosophy, is that which would I rather watch and how often. I've seen Guardians of the Galaxy over a dozen times, and even though Thor: Ragnarok came out recently, I've seen it and I want to go see it again. Not kidding, I was hoping someone would join me tonight after I just watched it last night. I admittedly haven't watched Homecoming as much as Captain America, but it's such a great telling of Peter Parker and Spider-Man, it deserves high praise. Captain America is very much a fun re-watchable movie for me. Seen it something like eight times and it always has my attention.
  5. @Mal Hey, I'm happy too that you've got Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice! Just make sure you play with headphones on for the best experience. Finally, Nier: Automata went on sale for Black Friday. That's the only game I'm picking up this year. I also got a new controller, so that took the place of another game.
  6. Scout rushing is what made the game feel like Sonic. You'd get a high rank just by getting Alicia to run alongside the map, kill 2-3 guys, and done!
  7. Take what Blizzard did with Overwatch when pressed by Chinese law on in-game transactions. Blizzard needed to include in-game currency as a given with any lootcrate purchase. However, they made the amount of currency so minimal that it only serves to fulfill the law. Basically, there's a bit of a loophole in current law that even should a developer include usable currency, there's no way of measuring the amount that should be offered. What I'm driving at is that developers can agree to follow along, but they're going to be obtuse about it. EDIT: Oops, forgot to say what game this happened to!
  8. I got near the ending of VC2, but I got pulled away as I wasn't as invested as I was with VC1. Since it was a portable title, the maps are much smaller and so you're always dealing with close quarter engagements and funneling. I'll give VC4 a chance, but I don't think any other game in the series will ever come close to the impact and excellence of the first game. And true soldiers get through the tank mission without any fancy PC changes. Back in my day, you got through it by the skin of your teeth and no mid-save state!
  9. You know, with Sonic Forces having been out and the collective consensus being a resounding eh, I was itching for playing a Sonic game. So I ordered Sonic Colors off Amazon for $18 and it's pretty good. Only problem is it's a Wii title that's upscaled to 1080p on the Wii U.
  10. So Reddit is tearing into EA over Battlefront II. Can't say I'm not surprised, but #1 Most Downvoted comment is excellent (most excellent).

I hate toxic communities as much as the next guy but that doesn't mean EA should just get a pass on implementing something that completely ruins the game and will probably also ruin every game they make for the foreseeable future.  Battlefront 2 went from a "might buy" to a "never ever" for me as soon as I learned there were pay2win crates.  If people encourage it then it will only get worse by spreading to other companies.

Don't get me wrong, guys. I realize the overlap in groups and I dislike micro-transactions and predatory practices as much as the next guy. I mean, I loved the Dead Space series and I still haven't played DS3 because they ruined with with micro-transactions. I get it. I'm also not saying it's an either or situation, which is why I think it's so pathetic that only one of them gets people this riled up. I just don't think they're anywhere near the same level of problems and certainly aren't the absolute evil some gamers make them out to be.

At the end of the day, I can choose to simply skip a game (or wait until it's dirt cheap). There's already more great games out there than I'll ever have time to play. One more or less really makes no difference to me. Not exactly as easy to avoid those other problems I mentioned.

To clarify I was merely suggesting that the people spitting blood/howling on reddit/sending death threats over the MTX thing are in the most part the toxic part of the community. The people who are disgruntled by pay to win or MTX in general and have voiced their complaints politely or just skipped the game I don't consider part of that toxic group.

  11. Since browsing all the Black Friday deals, and seeing most recent titles going for $25-$30, it struck me that I haven't finished some games I got on Black Friday a few years ago. Those would be Shadow of Mordor, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and The Evil Within. I almost finished Wolfenstein, but something pulled me away. The Evil Within didn't really grab me, but I know I put a few hours into it. My biggest offense is Shadow of Mordor as I only had 4 hours into the game, and it is a fun game to boot. For some reason it didn't hold my interest over some other games at the time. Point being, before I can even think of getting Shadow of War, Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, or The Evil Within 2 at such a deep discount, I've got to finish the respective first game. So I've jumped back into Shadow of Mordor and I know I'm doing better than I did originally. Thing is the game seems to know this too and in my first hour, the game threw three Captains at me in the same fight. I barely had any abilities unlocked and ultimately faced my first (or second) death.
  12. I haven't played the game yet, but I thought it was obvious. Rabbits from the moon is highly referenced Asian folklore. Monster Carrot in Dragon Ball and Yumigami from Okami come to mind. Well, also the Jade Rabbit in Destiny lore, but right now that's basically a symbol.
  13. I'm getting thirsty for some Black Friday Deals. Been meaning to get a second DualShock 4 and there's always good deals on controllers.

I'm hoping for a good sale on Prey.  Playing Death of the Outsider has given me a hankering for some more Arkane Studios immersive sims.

  14. I also had some G.Skill RAM. Can confirm, it was RAM.
  15. Got Alien: Isolation from Sony's Halloween Sale. Never been a big Alien(s) fan, though I like the Xenomorph. Thought I could use something spoopy right now.

@Spooky Scary FLD Yeah, I really didn't.  It was basically the first serious encounter with multiple enemies, where I had to get through a door.  I was sneaking all around trying to take them out so I could get past, and then got ganked because you have no environmental awareness, and lost like 15 minutes of progress because of the bad checkpointing.  So at that point I said "fuck this" and quit the game forever.

Lol geez. The large open room with a second floor going around the sides, right?

That's way too early to drop the game, imho. You missed out!

      TheMightyEthan

Well they shouldn't front-load the game with frustrating parts with bad checkpoints.  :D

  16. Seeing more videos on Destiny 2 PC, specifically PvP, has got me envious of the experience. Originally I was fine staying on console because the game felt like it would be an optimized port for PC players to get into the game. But seeing how well veterans are adapting to the game in PvP, and going as far as to say it's a different game all together, has me doubting I made the right decision. Like, I wouldn't have felt comfortable buying the game again, and I did get a big discount on my console copy. So assuming the game would be roughly similar on either platform, I hunkered down on PS4 and even used some left over money to get the Season Pass. So I have made my bed and will have to lie in it.
  17. With the amount of time I've put into the PS4 platform, I couldn't imagine starting over on PC. Maybe if I had a few upgrades for my PC I would have stopped working on my characters on PS4 and waited till PC. It's a great game, just don't expect it to demand your time at the endgame. There are those who want a chase/carrot, and to extent there needs to be more incentive besides Weekly Reset. However, I firmly believe going back to the RNG riddled fallacy of "content" is not the direction D2 should take. The way I see it is that right now D2 is a framework, much like D1 ended up becoming after its updates. If you end up enjoying the gameplay, classes and some subclasses, along with the story, you'll have hours of content and be interested in any further DLC that progresses the story and gear you can obtain.
  18. Cuphead is tough, but to be honest part of it is there are random elements to the phases.

  19. I do hope that we can eventually customize our weapons with perks instead of just shaders. Legendary Engrams just aren't as special once you have most gear and weapons. I enjoy most of the changes, but don't tell that to the diehard player base because they want the old D1 Y1 grind back. Baffles me why anyone would want to go back to resource farming for perk unlocks. The major complaint I have is the Crucible. I don't like how it's two playlists and you're at the mercy of fate on what game you'll play. I hate Supremacy, even though I'm Gold ELO in it. I haven't touched Competitive in weeks because it's too slow and once someone leaves, you're guaranteed to lose. Overall, I wish abilities charged faster. Using guns 90% of the time gets boring and you don't have all the crazy moments like in D1. Not to mention you get your Super a maximum of two times IF you collect Orbs of Light from teammates and use your first Super once it's ready (or around it). EDIT: But to add to Hot Heart's comment, if you guys were scared of grinding and this eating your life away, it doesn't have the extent to do so with the QoL changes. If you haven't visited r/DestinytheGame in the last few weeks, you'll see a trend of "hardcore" players going off about how they don't have a grind and that there's no endgame. There is one, but it's admittedly finite. Once you have a Legendary weapon, you have the same one everyone else does as perks are fixed. There's no grind for godrolls or elusive materials. So once you're done with the Weekly Reset and Milestones, you're left with doing the Raid some more, some Trials of the Nine, and whatever else you want to personally do. I'm being harsh on the dedicated players a bit, but for the majority of people they've got their money's worth. It's not blasphemous if you play other games between sessions and putting in a damn RNG-based grind will not be incentive for most to stay in the game.
  20. When you find out your flash drive is corrupted because all your programming files are missing half their functions and variables.

I have backups, but they're not here at home. So, yeah, so much for doing work.

Nothing on the cloud? Even at uni (nearly a decade ago for me) "loss of files" wasn't an accepted reason for delayed work purely because there was like half a dozen major cloud storage companies and "if Google is wiped out in the next term there's probably bigger issues than your missing files".

I put them on Google Drive. Not making excuses, but basically the current ones hadn't been uploaded. So either download old ones, rework shambles, or just pick them up in the morning.

  21. Wonder Woman I'm being honest here when I say I got bored during the film. I'm starting to wonder if part of the movie's praise is that it's actually good compared to BvS, so let's elevate it a bit more because it didn't turn out a failure. I think one of the main gripes I have with the film is how it resembles Captain America: The First Avenger during its second Act. The problem is you're basically tagging a ragtag ethnically diverse group to a Greek superhuman. I mean, she's not just 10x strong, she full on has powers. Hard to make the group dynamic work aside from them introducing her to the world known as Planet Earth. And then you find out: And I saw the twist coming, though I didn't know who would be the true antagonist. I enjoyed the first Act as it's self contained and interesting to have Diana's origin shown to us for the DCCU. My only gripe is that a few times Diana's mother mentions to her how she's different from the others, but Diana never follows up on that assertion. Maybe we're suppose to rationalize it as Diana thinking it means she's a princess. The acting itself is good, but the writing gets lazy near the end. Things start being convenient for our heroes until they hit a power wall. And I mean a massive power wall. Not to mention Diana ends up at times acting like a child rather than a grown woman. I get perhaps they meant for it to be about Diana learning more about humanity, but it comes off immature. Overall, if someone was forcing me to watch a non-Batman DC film, it would be this one.
  22. "It's true; there is little that is as pointless as Destiny." It's true; there is little that is as pointless as 'err_missing_game'. What value does 'err_missing_game' provide besides relative entertainment? I think we would all be better off if we went outside and helped build our local communities rather than 'err_missing_game' so called "communities." And another thing...
  23. I've gotten Orpheus Rig to drop twice, which is the best Hunter PvE Exotic Armor. I also have Mechaneer's Tricksleeves, which are really only for Sidearms. Still, there are some impressive sidearms in this game, so I use it for PvP. Today though I got the PS Exclusive Borealis from an Exotic from Shaxx. Being able to change the element type... Oh baby!
  24. I got it for the Wii, and I cherish the IGN watermark cover! Actually, got one of the replacement covers Capcom sent out way back. Like, you had to wait for them to send it out to ya, and if I remember correctly, it took quite some time before anyone got their's in the mail. It was basically the PS2 version with motion controllers and the absence of the paper filter that was originally used. I still immensely enjoyed and think the motion controls added to the experience. Wonder if you can use Move for the PS4 version. Wait, does Sony remember Move?
