  1. Yep, he's over at Polygon being one of the reasons they're shit.
  2. Settings>Voice>Download offline speech recognition
  3. The nexus devices are some of the few with virtual buttons.
  4. Now that I think about it, I think the long press of the menu key was how I accesssed it on my EVO 3D. Though menu keys should not exist anymore.
  5. It should be a much quicker shortcut than that. Doing things that way seems so... 2.3.
  6. I've just read some stuff recently about some of the manufacturers versions not having stuff like Lockscreen Widgets or Google Now despite being on the proper Android version. I can't remember specifically so don't take my word for it.
  7. You have to do all of that to get rid of S-Voice and use the much better feature? Does the S4 even have Google Now? That's like half the point of buying a new Android phone. Also, in many aspects it's better than Siri, but Siri is better at more conversational commands. The number of commands is pretty huge these days.
  8. Holy shit you can follow people without actually having to follow them! GOTY! I always hate that in games. I should probably put that in the tropes that need to go thread.
  9. For hardware buttons I do believe it's tied to the launcher since you can change what the long presses do. Haven't messed with it on virtual buttons though. Apparently one way to speed up the response time of the home button on the S4 is to disable S-Voice so you use google services instead. I'm actually a big fan of how it's handled on the virtual buttons on my N4. You swipe up on the home icon to go into Google Search/Now and then just say "Google" to start voice actions. Also allows for easy searching without voice of course.
  10. Who said anything about manufacturer stats? There are websites that do these tests you know and they do it before some idiot installs a bunch of battery raping apps. Anyways, do you really use your phone that much that you need a spare? Even on phones where I could remove the battery I never bothered to. It's a hassle to have to keep two things charged instead of one. I just carry a charger with me instead.
  11. Actually, yes. These do more harm than good. They'll kill apps which automatically restart and do this endlessly. It's simply unnecessary on Android. If you have an app that has wake-lock issues or drains battery because it's also pulling GPS (facebook comes to mind) then uninstall it. Also, powering up your 3g/4g radios constantly is also terrible for your battery life. That's only necessary if you're moving around a lot. Keeping your radios on when moving with the screen off shouldn't be too much of a drain though. The only battery saving app I would recommend is Greenify (requires root) as it doesn't really kill apps. It just handles those few apps you might want installed but don't want doing something like getting GPS data all of the time. Greenify just hibernates apps like how well written apps should behave or you can make any app behave like that.
  12. If that's all you use your phone for then I'd be surprised that anything was killing it. Probably a case of what you have installed.
  13. I've never once heard complaints about HTCs not scaling down enough or having wake-lock issues. Things like that are going to be dependent on what is installed and enabled which would also include carrier bloatware if you're not a phone that can disable. The HTC Ones power save mode really takes what you want (longevity when idling) to the extreme from what I've heard. Personally I actually like to use my phone so I don't bother with things like that. Which is also why you see people throw around the "Screen on time" as the primary thing you want to look for in battery life.
  14. Add up the price for the DLC and work out what's the better deal. Also you have to consider the legendary edition going on sale, too.
  15. Well let's consider frequent Kotaku topics: Homosexuality, women in games, women in the games industry. There's not much in terms of law to change (obviously gay marriage is the big one for homosexuality) but rather those changes need to be cultural. Where do you focus if you want to prioritize on those? Most of what people are doing is raising awareness that these things are even issues to begin with because so many people are aware or won't admit to it.
  16. Fair enough. I'm not exactly a fan, either. I'm just glad that someone is bitching about these things.
  17. This all varies widely depending on what the issue at end is. You're only talking legally and not culturally which greatly misses the point.
  18. Bingo. @Ethan. I disagree and you're just proving my point. If you only care about "big issues" then you probably don't care much at all if you're okay with the smaller issues or think that they're non-issues. In many cases they're representative of the whole. The Blood Dragon article seemed to be exploring if it was bad or not. My conclusion was that it wasn't. She just took fucking forever to get there.
  19. Those cheap sensationalist articles are often pretty long and in-depth and involve multiple people talking about the issue. I find that people like you just hate talking about these hard issues because you likely have some of these prejudices and you don't want to own up to them. If people are sick of it then they don't really care about fixing the issue to begin with. All she's doing is driving away the people who don't really have a problem with these things.
  20. Yet the HTC One has been said to have better battery life than the S4 and has more options for increasing its battery life. What you don't get is that people's personal stories don't matter, W&S. They never have. Everyone uses their phones differently. Everyone installs different apps. Even different versions of Android allow for different levels of battery life saving. Some processors and screens are more battery efficient, some people use them in a way that's not efficient anyways, and there's different battery sizes. It's not as simple as listening to a bunch of your idiot friends.
  21. What makes you think every single phone from a company is going to have bad battery life? What about how its used? That's utter retarded shit.
  22. We're starting to get there, actually. HTC One comes at 32gb at its minimum and apparently there's a 64gb version (or one upcoming.)
  23. Nothing retarded about it. But yes, you did show some confusion when you didn't understand why it didn't save the the microSD. Google wants to eliminate that hassle to begin with. They want the days of installing app2SD, widgets not working because the app is on SD, etc, to be gone.
  24. Hmm... essentially it's just a pretty looking Paypal-esque link in this case.
