Metacritic for movies are really subjective. When you sit and watch the movie it will go from beginning to end every time. It won't stutter, crash or get stuck at a scene because Brad Pitt got stuck in a wall somewhere. Metacritic for games is in part objective so there is a degree of validity in the scoring system. A universally reviled game is generally scored low because it is in some way, measurably broken. That said, games with really high scores (90+) stray into subjectivity again... My way of reading metacritic: <40: Game is broken, has few if any redeeming features. 41-60: Game has some glaring errors, but also some good points. If you particularly like the franchise, genre, license, whatever, then read further into it, but buyer beware. 61-80: A solid title with no major issues. Chances are you'll like it, but check if there are show stoppers (e.g. a 78% C&C is not going to be for you if you hate RTS games). 81-100: The game is a great example of its type. The only thing that is going to make you hate it is if you don't like the genre, or something subjective like you hate the story. (GTAIV is a prime example of this, I know it is *technically* a brilliant game, I just wanted it to be like Vice City.)

Yeah, I don't really like DM. Conquest / Rush all the way. EDIT: Just to make this more on topic. I find that even in CoD objective modes, everyone plays like it's a DM anyway. Hence why I don't play CoD.

Pretty much sums up how I feel when I see ~{@Sansa@}~. I honestly check how thick the chapter is before I read on. Just to know how much pain I'm going to have to suffer.

Either loads of devs will support it and it will be practically a necessity like a DualShock controller on a PS1, in which case it will be loathed by early adopters as the thing that forced them to buy the 3DS 1.5. Or, no one will support it, in which case it will be an expensive ball and chain to strap to your 3DS when you want to play MH. I'm thinking that this wouldn't even exist if Ninty didn't intend it to become the norm. I wouldn't be surprised if the price drop was in part to pave the way for $250 3DSDS (3DS DualStick).

Fuck Sansa. Every time I see her name head up a chapter my heart sinks. The stuff that goes on around her is interesting, but that's just it, it all happens around her. I tend to get quite immersed when I read, so the feeling that I'm stuck inside what passes for her brain is a horrid feeling, when I read Tyrion, or Jon, there's a feeling of participation in world events, when I read Sansa, I feel like a passenger. You could write Sansa's parts as a third person and it would make no difference, other than missing out on how she decided to choose between the green silk gown and the grey woollen one. She doesn't understand what's going on, so being inside her head is as much use as being inside an empty milk bottle. I've not seen the show, but to be honest if they've hired an actress to play Sansa rather than just stuck a mannequin in the corner of the set, it was a waste of money.

This is why I never play CoD. I couldn't care less about my K/D, I know most people who play it do, so I steer clear.

Generally speaking, consumers lack the will to actually boycott something.They are weak minded sheep who eventually crack and buy whatever it was they were boycotting the very same day it releases for fear of being the only one who hasn't got whatever it was that they were supposed to boycott. The threat of a boycott is far more effective. It shows a unified dislike of a feature that can be heard above the din of the usual forum grumbles. As with any form of marketing, the timing is critical. Too early and the ire will expire before the publisher has to worry about it. Too late and there will not be enough time to make the changes before release. I'd be surprised if a company like Activision took anything less than a million strong hand written petition to boycott seriously these days, especially after the woeful performance the gaming community put in over the CoD (lack of) dedicated server issue, despite MasterDex not purchasing MW2 it was still the biggest entertainment release ever when it launched, so what exactly was the impact of the boycott? 1%? Less?

Couldn't agree more. Though occasionally you will get retailers loss leading on big releases (FIFA 11, or was it 10? Was sold very cheap by UK super markets) so high quality does not always equate to a high sale price. To be honest, publishers are last in line to get affected by this. It's the retailers that will suffer first especially when you combine the lower sale price with reduced volume thanks to the rise of digital sales, depending on how quick digital takes up the slack it may not even hurt pubs at all.

Lucky for them I'm on a no shooting person playthrough and will be back to do things right when I am on a shooty-time playthrough.

Got me some Deus Ex also. After doing the first proper mission I then went back through all the doors, vents and what not that I missed the first time through... I missed a lot of stuff. First mission spoiler follows:

If they kindle-ise the game downloads, then the network cost could be built in to the software purchase. I suppose they could do a PS+ / Xbox LIVE style paid subscription if you want to do online gaming via 3G, but I'd imagine the connection speeds would be rank. That just leaves voice, text and other data stuff. Text is cheap, so that could be kindle style (software purchases could fund it), voice and general web browsing, downloading and streaming stuff other than from PSN would be an issue.
