  1. Microsoft's plan with Xbox is explicitly to make it so everything is backwards compatible forever now. That doesn't mean Xbones will be forwards compatible forever, but every console they release in the future is intended to be able to play anything an Xbone can. I imagine we'll end up with a simplified version of system requirements on Xbox games, where they'll say "you need at least an Xbox One Z to play this" or whatever. Of course whether or not that actually happens remains to be seen, but that's the plan.
  2. You should get play Dishonored 1. And Prey.
  3. Yeah, glass is the way to go, plastic ones are dumb because they don't protect the screen from breaking and the get scratched way more easily than the actual screen would.
  4. I've always had good luck with both the included microfiber cloths and the dust removal strips. Although good dust removal strips don't actually have much if any adhesive.
  5. @Mister Jack yeah, a moon pieces thing would have worked too, just anything to make more of a difference in reward between various activities.
  6. I enjoyed that game, but not as much as you guys. After I beat it I went on to go the bonus Broodal boss thing, but since finishing that I haven't had any desire to go back. I felt like the easy moons really hurt the game. It makes it anticlimactic even when you do get one of the harder ones because all you get is another moon, which are littering the ground everywhere so it doesn't feel like much of a reward. I wish they had done more multiple tiers of collectibles, like how you get multimoons for beating the bosses. Maybe like giving you a 3-moon multimoon for what are now some of the harder/more hidden regular moons, and up the boss reward to a 5-moon multimoon. I also think the platforming is held back by the fact that so many of the moves are locked behind motion controls that are impossible or almost impossible to execute in mobile mode. Because of that I played through the whole game basically only using jump, Cappy jump, Cappy throw, and that Cappy dive jump thing. All the rest were impossible to execute in my main mode of play (mobile), so even when I was playing on the TV I didn't remember to use them because I wasn't in the habit. Where the game really shines, imo, is in the taking over enemies. There was such a variety, and it was so much fun in each new world figuring out what they were and how to use them. That's the only thing that saves it from being an actually kind of disappointing Mario game.
  7. Yeah, the screen protectors are slightly gas permeable, so the air trapped in little bubbles will leak out over a few days. *Edit - I definitely recommend lining up one edge with it almost but not quite flat, and then lowering it the rest of the way like it's on a hinge, rather than trying to put the whole thing down flat.
  8. Opus Magnum I beat this a couple of days ago. I agree with people that it's not as hard as SpaceChem (the other Zachtronics game I've played) but I think that's a good thing, I was never able to finish SpaceChem. I really loved it, although I wish it were a little longer. There's plenty of bonus puzzles after the main game though, so I think I'll keep playing it for a while to come.
  9. Yeah, I almost never used any of the motion controls, it sucks that so many moves are locked behind them. It makes playing mobile mode really hard.
  10. We just finished watching the 3rd episode. It's weird as shit, but engaging.
  11. Yeah, staying away from Nyko is always a good policy.
  12. Digital Foundry ran some tests on Meltdown and Spectre, and their results seem to back up initial reports that gaming shouldn't be impacted much if at all. The hardest hit game they tested was The Witcher 3, which they found a 10% decrease in framerate, but all of the other games either had no measureable impact or the impact was 1-2%. And that's in a setup that was specifically designed to be CPU-bound, most of the time your games are going to be GPU-bound anyway, so even a 10% haircut on CPU efficiency shouldn't make too much of a difference most of the time. Luckily both Nvidia and AMD graphics cards are only affected by Spectre, which is by far the less impactful of the two bugs, so GPUs shouldn't see a noticeable decrease in efficiency.
  13. Specs here. The only major change seems to be that resolution is 1440x1600 per eye, up from 1080x1200 in the base model (1.8 times as many pixels). I'll be interested to see how big a difference that makes once people get their hands on it. It should hopefully lessen the screen door effect, even if your PC can't support actually rendering VR at that resolution.
  14. Yeah, after I posted that it occurred to me that female servicemembers surely can get hormonal birth control, which is also a hormone treatment that you have to take daily.
  15. "Big Format Gaming Displays" abbreviates to BFGDs, which I choose to believe really stands for "Big Fucking Gaming Displays".
  16. Oh, and I want to draw attention to this bit at the bottom of the page:
  17. @HydrateStandby here's the study: https://www.rand.org/pubs/research_reports/RR1530.html I did overstate when I said it improves force readiness, the actual finding was that it does not decrease force readiness.
  18. Only hot dogs are called wieners.
  19. It's not true. The reason the military decided to allow transgender soldiers is because they studied it for years and determined that doing so improves force readiness. Then Trump comes along and chucks it out the window because he's a bigot.
