Based on the way Bungie had initially presented the game I had assumed it would be more like WoW expansions than really separate games. I knew my equipment would be obsoleted because there would be newer, better stuff, but I didn't think that it would go away altogether. That said, it doesn't actually bother me, because like I said I knew my gear would be immediately obsolete anyway, and I never bought any of the real money stuff. The only things I'm a little sad to be losing are my emblems that I got for doing various things (like the Year 1 Moments of Triumph, etc). And there really is no reason why those couldn't carry over, since they have absolutely zero gameplay effect and are just a background for your username.

So basically for your Joycons to work you have to invent a time machine and go back to the 50's before microwaves were commonplace.

The Switch sold 80k units in the UK over launch weekend. That puts it at double Wii U (which was 40k) but less than Wii (which was 105k). So that's slightly promising, although since it was selling out most places it's hard to tell how close that is to the actual launch day demand for the thing. It could be that they just about maxed out the market, or it could be there's still a bunch of people waiting to get one.

Apparently Crackdown is officially still in development. Phil Spencer confirmed, and they also have a presentation at GDC about the cloud physics.
-
I didn't get to play today because it didn't get here until 630 and we were having people over to watch a movie.
-
I doubt it will simply because the Switch is new and no one owns a Wii U, whereas the PS4 has trillions of units in the wild.

That sounds like the system in Dragon Age... 2?... where I played the whole game without ever really understanding what the symbols meant. So the fact that they're bringing that over does not fill me with hope.

Haven't gotten around to it yet but I'm pretty sure that's one of their worst ones. I know that's the general consensus. I think I liked it because the combat was so much simpler than their other games. I'm not somebody who likes my games to have super involved combat full of special moves and stuff.

Eesh, that's a pretty glaring oversight. At least it appears the scratching is around the border and not on the actual display part of the screen. Not that that makes it okay, it's just not as bad as it could be.

Digital Foundry has an article up now comparing the Switch version in docked vs. undocked modes. It doesn't have the Wii U version, but the Switch in undocked mode runs at 720p just like Wii U so the screenshots can at least show the difference in detail the resolution makes: 900p: 720p:

I can see it, the Wii U version has worse jaggies and blurrier textures (you can especially see it at 0:36 when it's zooming out from the pool, the Wii U version has tons of jaggies at the bottom) but it's not as big a difference as I was expecting.

I have never really liked any Platinum game (Legend of Korra was okay), but the character designs in this game make me want it.
-
Wow, the two versions are even more identical than I thought they were. I would have thought the 900p/720p discrepancy would make more of a difference. Re older Zeldas: I've tried ALttP a couple of times in the last few years (I never had an SNES) and I just cannot get into it. I can see how it would have been amazing at the time, but goddamn.

Yeah, as evidenced in this thread I've been very nervous about framerate issues, especially on Wii U, but after everything I've looked at I'm confident that while performance isn't as good as I'd hope it's not bad enough to really impact the experience. *Edit - omg, just watched that review and toward the end where he said it's clear the "Breath" in Breath of the Wild doesn't refer to our breath but refers to the sheer size and scope of the world I wanted to facepalm so hard. The word you're thinking of is "breadth", dude! It's a completely different word!

Gaming Tropes There Should Be More Of
TheMightyEthan replied to deanb's topic in General Gaming Chat
I think E3 to November is pretty good timing. Long enough to hype it, but not so long that people forget about it/lose interest. -
Wait, was Crackdown cancelled?

I don't understand how it took so long for someone to make a game about killing robot dinosaurs. I mean, that is like the most obvious video game thing ever.
-
@GOH: Oh my god I would stab someone.
-
I think GOH's right about the intentionally limited stock on Wii U. People on Reddit have been having the same problem as Atom. Luckily I haven't had that problem with my preorder, which has said "Arriving Friday" the whole time and just today changed from "Not yet shipped" to "Preparing to ship."
-
I know it's not unique, and I'm even okay with it being a little worse than the Switch, as long as it's not bad enough to harm my enjoyment of the game. After watching that first video I was unsure, but after looking at the second I feel a lot better about it.

This one's quite a bit longer and has a lot more of him running around in the forest, enough to show that it really is just specific places from specific angles that drop frames, and not even the whole forest. My concerns are sufficiently alleviated. Bonus, this one's in what appears to be either Dutch or German, which I can't even remotely read (unlike French which I know a little of) so it's even less spoilery!
-
Well for the most part the rest of it was fine, but when he went into the forest it dropped frames really bad. He didn't stick around though so I couldn't tell if it was the whole forest that would be like that or just the specific spot he was in. Now I don't know what to do...
-
The first hour of the game on Wii U, so spoilers obviously, though it's in French so that helps a little. I'm watching it to see how the performance is, and I'm only 11 minutes in but so far it is not promising. That said, the comments on the reddit thread where I found this video do say that it's bad at the beginning but then gets a lot better, so I'm still hopeful. If the whole thing is like this though I think I'm cancelling my preorder...

Finally finished Recore. Good game, I enjoyed it more than the 63% metacritic would suggest. My only real complaint is that you have to be nearly at max level to beat the last bit of the story, which requires more grinding than I would have liked. I would have preferred that the story be completable at a lower level and simply have more side stuff available for higher levels.

I don't remember any Wii U games that you couldn't play with just the tablet (other than multiplayer ones, obviously).
