"If you don't like it don't buy it, but either way don't complain about it." This is stupid. 1) Not every problem is so huge it justifies not buying something you would otherwise enjoy, but that doesn't mean it's not a problem at all. 2) Maybe I'm not buying it, and by explaining why I'm not buying it I can give the company information about how they might change it for the better and perhaps get more sales in the future.

Yeah, I don't feel as close to my dad as I do to like my uncle on my mom's side (mom's sister's husband, so not even blood relative), and feel less of a sense of obligation to him as well. And it's not like I'm especially close to this uncle or he's some father figure or anything like that, I just feel about him like I would expect anyone would in a family that lives mostly in the same town and gets along well.

I guess I'll get EarthBound and probably never play it. *Edit* - Oh wait, this isn't for the rank you reached last year, I see. *Edit 2* - No, these are supposed to be for last year. I'm really confused now, cause I could have sworn I was gold...

Do they? The only Abstergo product I can think of is Assassin's Creed: Liberation, which portrays the Templar's in an overall good light unless you get the secret thingies that unlock the "real" cutscenes, and the explanation for those is that an Assassin hacked the software to show the full memories rather than the edited versions Abstergo produced.

Yeah, I'm sure there's some kind of penalty for losing a customer, and that's why he sounded so desperate. When I cancelled my Cox TV the conversation went like this: Me - "I'd like to cancel my TV, but keep the internet service." CSR - "I'm sorry to hear that, can I ask why?" Me - "We just don't watch it enough to justify the cost." CSR - "Would it help if I offered you a discount to $X per month for 12 months?" Me - "No, we really don't watch it much at all, and just want to cancel." CSR - "Well I'm sorry to hear that. I've cancelled your service. Is there anything else I can help you with?" Me - "Nope." CSR - "Please have a nice day and thank you for calling Cox." It was way more painless than I'd imagined it would be.

I'm not saying it's definitely going to be good either, just that whether or not it's directly based on the comics doesn't determine whether or not it's good.
-
Just cause it's not going to be based on the comics doesn't mean it's going to suck.

Yeah, I fucking loved that game, got the platinum, but I can't remember like anything about the plot.

I started playing The Witcher 2 last weekend. Two hours in so far and I'm enjoying it WAY more than The Witcher 1, which I abandoned after 8.5 hours (watched the official video recap so I wouldn't be lost for 2).

Scratch that, Amazon seller flaked out on me.

Axis & Allies -- Roll 1 or Die
TheMightyEthan replied to P4: Gritty Reboot's topic in Event Planning
It's quite a bit more complicated, but fairly simple compared to most computer strategy games. -
Just because there are a few counterexamples doesn't change the fact that for the majority of games the narrative is secondary (at best) to the mechanics. I do think it's possible going forward that we might see a growing distinction between games as, well, "games", and games as interactive narrative entertainment, similar to the sports/movies distinction you made in another thread (which is not to say it will be quite that cut and dried, there can obviously be some crossover).

I like how people's definition of "us" expands as necessary.

I'll put it this way: I don't mind there being secrets, but something about they way they're often handled in Japanese games, particularly RPGs, gets on my nerves. They're stuff that's so ridiculously specific that there's almost no way you could stumble across them on your own.

Wouldn't Civilization be a Top-Down Alternate History Turn-Based Strategy? Turn-based is a mechanic. I get what you're saying but I don't think it needs to be as formalized as you're making it. You're basically just adding some more descriptors onto the mechanics description, which people already do anyway. I also think that while mechanics may not be the most important factor for you, I believe they are for most people. The mechanics are the primary way of interacting with the game, and if a person doesn't like the mechanics they're just not going to be able to get into the game. I do agree that traditional genres are also important, I'm getting just as sick of the modern military setting as everyone else, but I think it's secondary to the mechanics.

Yeah, that was weird. -
I think Vecha's finally lost his mind...

Betrayaaaal, Be-trayal! Betrayed Me!
TheMightyEthan replied to TornadoCreator's topic in General Gaming Chat
Well according to the Entertainment Software Association as of 2013 58% of Americans played video games at all, and 51% of US households owned a game console. Compare that to the percentage of homes that own at least one TV (99%). I can't find data on how many people actually watch TV or movies, but I would guess all of those 99% that own TVs are using them for something, and so we can assume the percentage of people who watch TV or movies on a fairly regular basis is approximately 99% as well. Sure 58% is high enough to be called mainstream, but it's not ubiquitous yet. -
I really liked that game, but couldn't make it through all the special stages.

It took PS2 one weekend to surpass the Dreamcasts lifetime sales... sixth months is hardly a death knell... similarly, the PS3 was considered dead in the water and had similar sales figures to the Wii U in its first year; now it's arguably the most successful console of the last generation. Fair point, but he said that Nintendo wasn't doing any worse than the others, when it is.
-
Thanks Obama!

No, I wasn't claiming I didn't see those articles, I did, what I was asking for was something to back up your claim that they were all wrong. I did try to google actual figures and couldn't find much, which is why I was asking for you to provide your sources.

Before I respond I'm going to admit that I only read the tl;dr version and not the whole post. So, that out of the way: What do you mean Nintendo's not doing any worse? I'll give you that the 3DS is doing fine, but it took Sony and MS less than 6 months to surpass lifetime Wii U sales when Nintendo had a year head start on them.
