  1. Goddamnit, why is it only 3? I want to throw The Last of Us in there, but I can't figure out which one to take off.
  2. Saw Cabin in the Woods last night. It was not at all what I was expecting, but it was good.
  3. Yeah, that's retarded that someone would think that chocolate milk thing would offend a black guy. "OMG! You said black!" The most ridiculous usage of the term "Africa-American" I've ever encountered was in a documentary I saw some years ago (maybe like 10? I was in high school at the time..) that referred to black Africans, living in Africa, whose ancestors had never left Africa, as "African-Americans". Re: the Redskins thing: My wife, who's part Native American and usually fairly sensitive to negative references to Native Americans, doesn't have a problem with that one because "redskin" is a (rough translation of a) term the Native Americans themselves came up with themselves to distinguish themselves from Europeans. Obviously the fact that one person is okay with it doesn't make it generally okay (see the "I have a black friend who doesn't mind..." type comments), but I just thought it was interesting. @Wally: I agree to some extent that it's the intent of the person using the word that should determine whether it's offensive, but when you're using racial/sexual epithets as insults, the implication is that whatever negative characteristic you're insulting is shared by the group the epithet refers to, which is insulting to that entire group.
  4. When you put it that way, it is possible it's a regional thing to some degree. I do sometimes hear reporters on national news (like when talking about votes, which is why your example triggered this thought) refer to "blacks", but it's always seemed really weird that they would say that, rather than something like "black voters".
  5. Offensive to the black people I know. *Edit* - And I did say it's "a little" offensive. It's not like the worst thing you could call them.
  6. "Black" is not offensive as an adjective, it's offensive as a noun. "That guy is black" is fine, "that guy is a black" is not. I'm not saying you need to call them African-American instead of black, just that you should not refer to them as "blacks". I also know black people who prefer the term "black" over African-American. Also, "black people" is the plural form of black people. "Black person" is the singular. I know the "we are all from Africa" is beside the point, that's why it was in a parenthetical, where I was saying it is beside the point. And this is the first I've heard anyone say pacific islanders are black.
  7. This game's save system blows. When I hit "save game", it's never even remotely clear how much progress will actually get saved. #TLoU

Yeah, but I've had it happen a few times now where I finish an encounter and then go scavenge equipment, save, quit, then when I come back it's put me after the encounter but before I scavenged. It's just irritating.

I don't mind if they want to use a checkpoint system, but if they do they need to make it really really clear when the checkpoints are occurring.

I thought it was alright, though I also never bothered to manually save because there are MANY checkpoints. If I felt like I needed to start over, I would because you can guarantee you'll hit a checkpoint after an encounter.

  8. Unless you're counting Australian aborigines then all black people are descended from people who are from Africa (recently, obviously if you go far enough back all people everywhere are descended from people from Africa), even if it's by way of another country (I know Africa is a continent not a country). And yes, calling them "blacks" is a little offensive.
  9. It's 2013, why do we still have NPCs constantly blocking doorways?

Hmm... been a few months so I can't say I remember that. I remember the characters being good about getting out of your way though. Just maybe not during certain scenes?

In my experience they're eager to get out of your way if you're in a big open space where it doesn't matter, but as soon as you're in a tightly confined area they just stand there.

Skyrim has that issue but at least they tried solving it by making them stagger back if you spring towards them

  10. You can deposit money through your phone too. The only reason to go to the ATM is to get cash.
  11. I had no idea Blue Moon was so popular. Of course I live in a Bud Light state.
  12. Yes, what I'm saying is it's ridiculous this wasn't already a feature.
  13. I think "this idiot" is a Microsoft spokesman, demonstrating the new features of 8.1.
  14. Yes, but he's talking about Windows on a PC. If you can do that on your Windows phone also then I'll grant that is pretty cool, but that's not what he's talking about in the video.
  15. Holy shit, you can have multiple apps on screen at one time?! It's almost like each one is some kind of "window", that can be resized at will. Revolutionary!
  16. Yeah, it's just Flower at 1080p60. Not that that's not nice. That is quite nice.
  17. I hope so. It already looks like Virginia is going to have a Democratic governor (election is this November).
  18. I think it was supposed to be, but this is the workaround. Obviously Sony was already planning to manufacture PS4s to go in those bundles, so the fact that the game is delayed isn't going to make that manufacturing capacity vanish, they'll just stick them in non-bundle boxes instead.
