Wait, how does that work? If you paid someone to make it for you don't you own it and can do whatever the hell you want with it?
-
Yeah, I hate that too. And I was partly kidding too. I almost continued to say that my kids will grow up watching Batman: TAS, Angry Beavers, etc, like kids should. In reality I'm going to do my best to just keep in the back of my mind that older generations always think the newer generation's stuff is terrible.

I don't know that I've ever seen a Ronald Reagan movie. I think the closest I've gotten is in BttF when Doc asks who's president in 1985, Marty says it's Ronald Reagan and Doc goes, "The actor?" and refuses to believe him.

I thought XII was the MMO.

I personally doubt I'll be willing to pay more than $300 (£195) for the console itself. If they had a bundle though with games I actually wanted (read: not NintendoLand, or not only NintendoLand) that brought it down so the effective price of the console itself, without the games, was less than that I'd get it.

I'm guessing just because he was on the air from 1968-2001, and he's one of those things that every kid watched at least a few times.

@Battra: The solution is just to get an HTPC and download the proper shows.

He was the host/star of a kid show called Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr_Rogers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w9xk4hUKoQ

Yep, characters are randomly generated: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/06/07/zombiu-is-all-about-survival-but-failure-is-pretty-cool-too/ This game is sounding really cool.
-
I really really really hope that's true. This is probably the game I'm most excited about from this E3.

Except back then people didn't move around much, so the fact that you and everyone you know has never heard of this guy or these events doesn't really matter if they're taking place more than a few tens of miles away.
-
I don't think anyone is taking this one example as an overall design decision, we're just saying that since it's all we've seen it makes us worried because the game has so much potential beyond the shooting.

I was actually specifically thinking of Assassin's Creed and the numerous times I've stealthed in and killed the guy without fighting my way through guards. I mean sure there are other times that they make it so you have to fight your way in, but it's a design decision not an inherent requirement of assassination missions.

Just because your mission is assassination though doesn't mean you have to fight your way through body guards head on like that. It just means you have to kill your target somehow.

Yeah, I don't see what's so amazing from that demo that people think must be scripted.

I don't think anyone has a problem with shooting being an option, but I'm worried about whether there will be other options. From what I've heard about behind-closed-doors demonstrations of the game shooting your way through the body guards appears to be the only way to take out your target, and that's a shame because everything else about the game is so much more interesting. Like Dean and TFG said we're not opposed to shooting in general, we're opposed to it being shoehorned in to every game. I don't think Mirror's Edge is a good example though. I think the shooting was executed perfectly in that game: it sucked, but it was supposed to suck, it was supposed to be a last resort and if you ended up doing it much then you were doing something very wrong.

Yeah, I paid $7.50 and was happy, but for most people I'd probably agree that $5 should be the threshold. I thought they had a lot of great ideas for puzzle mechanics, but they never developed them far enough. Each time a mechanic started to get interesting in the puzzle complexity they abandoned it for a new one. I would have liked to see them put the various mechanics together.

The first time I tried to DL it it said 14, but the second time (I didn't have enough HDD space the first time) it said 15. @FDS: In my experience Wireless G tops out at about 1.5 MB/s, though in theory you should be able to get about 7, but even wired my PS3 never exceeds about 750 KB/s anyway, so really it doesn't matter. For reference on the PC I can sustain downloads at about 3 MB/s, so it's not my internet connection.

We don't have any stores in town that carry them so I had to order them from Amazon so haven't had a chance to read the second one (read the first one a few months ago).

It's 15, actually.

A good RPS article on that response: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/06/06/hmm-ea-on-steamorigin-mega-sales/#more-110982

Though he was talking about Splinter Cell, not Watch_Dogs, I think this quote from Penny Arcade nicely captures my thoughts about the shooting in this game and whether it's going to be rare or prevalent, mandatory or optional:

Watched it again, and it looks like they're only visible when flattened when viewed from an extreme angle, which is basically irrelevant for normal use. But if you want to see it watch the keyboard part from like 0:25-0:30 when they're going up and down you can still see them when they've flattened. They're not clearly outlined, but the surface is distinctly wavy.
