  1. I think with the advent of FXAA and whatever ATI's equivalent is called we're going to start seeing more anti-aliasing on future consoles because it can be applied as a shader effect and doesn't require nearly as much processing power. I agree those, effects like antialiasing, texture filtering, normal/bump maps, etc go a lot farther for me in determining how "good" a game looks than poly counts do.
  2. With stuff like not having to hard-code lighting on objects, instead just letting the lighting engine handle it. The more stuff you can do in real-time the less work it takes from humans hard-coding it. Additionally they can see the results of any changes in real time without having to wait for it to render. Also stuff like making scripting way easier with visual, flow-chart-based coding rather than actually have to write it out in a scripting language.
  3. It's based on the fact that the right always seems to oppose government programs to help them have food and not die.

  5. And from reading the article it sounds like a lot of what Unreal 4 is designed to do is to streamline development some teams don't have to keep ballooning.
  6. When you write a comment at the top of the box there's a chain with a green plus sign, if you highlight the text you want to make into a link and then click that you can paste your URL into the box that pops up and it will turn the text into a hyperlink.
  7. I find that when I can hear then it's more immersive to have no subtitles, but when I can't hear it's much much worse than subtitles. I always turn subtitles on if possible. Speaking about games in general, not DD specifically.
  8. I think part of it was that the videos I saw never showed them running, only sprinting, so I thought it was the regular run animation and that it looked retarded. If it's sprint that's more okay.
  9. I watched [Rec] with subtitles and didn't think it spoiled the tension.
  10. Yeah, they tried to make it look like a comedy in trailers to capitalize on Johnny Depp's recent movies.
  11. A cheaper, larger HDD already appeared in my e-mail inbox this morning.
  12. The Wikipedia page on transportation in Norrbotten County makes it sound very very similar to Kansas: Sounds the same right down to the speed limits, distances involved, and prevalence of freight trains but lack of passenger trains.
  13. Okay, yes, someone who has access to private transportation probably has a higher standard of living than someone in a comparable area who has no choice but to use public transportation, I doubt anyone would dispute that. The reason access to public transportation is considered a factor in (not a determination of) standard of living is because people who lack access to private transportation but do have access to public transportation generally have a higher standard of living than those who have access to neither.
  14. I can agree with that, with the minor caveat that I don't think consumers can know in most cases whether content was cut or not (as a separate issue from the fact that cutting content to sell separately is objectively bad, which I 100% agree with), and that I don't have any problem with online passes.
  15. I wish I could, but it's silver only. For the games I mean, obviously the free month would be silver only.
  16. Alright, I just ordered the following parts to build an HTPC: Case: Lian Li PC-C37U Micro-ATX (includes 300W PSU) Mobo: ASRock H61M/U3S3 LGA 1155 Intel H61 CPU: Intel Core i3-2105 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz with Intel HD Graphics 3000 RAM: 2x CORSAIR XMS 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 1333 HDD: Western Digital 500GB SATA 6.0Gb/s Remote: Rosewill MCE Infrared Remote I intend to install XBMCbuntu as the OS, and I have a couple of 2TB HDDs in my desktop right now with media on them that I'm going to move over to this machine so that it can also be my media server, since it will use less power than my desktop. Also, please don't tell me if I could have gotten the parts cheaper elsewhere, I'd rather just be blissfully ignorant. *Edit* - For the kb/m I'm going to be using this wireless combo I posted in the PYP thread the other day.
  17. Population density of Sweden: 53.8/sq mi Population density of Kansas: 35.1/sq mi
  18. Yeah, making you lose all your stuff like that when they drop you is a terrible design decision. It also encourages people who have to leave for some reason to not log out and instead just idle through the rest of the match. Maybe there should be some kind of penalty for quitting/disconnecting early, but it should be more like a 25% reduction rather than losing all of it. Another stupid thing about it is that when someone quits the points they've gotten throughout the match vanish from the match, which means it ALSO reduces the score of their teammates. That's just completely fucking retarded.
  19. When he said trains I took it to mean light rail like subways. He's right though, at least about public transport being impractical in the midwest. Everything is just way too damn spread out, without enough people in any one area to make it cost effective. The areas that are more densely populated, like Wichita, KC, college towns do tend to have buses.
  20. I'm not afraid to make new topics, I just like to check first to make sure I'm not doubling up.
  21. That's fucking awesome, I've been wanting something like Onlive but to stream from my own PC. What program is that?
  22. Oh yeah, that wasn't really directed at you, more at the gaming public in general (read: vocal minority). It seems like every time a new action RPG comes out people lose their shit about how RPGs are getting so dumbed down. They have a much better argument when it happens to an established franchise (DA2, I'm looking at you). As an aside, one thing I think Bioware did very well with ME3 that kind of got overshadowed by the ending controversy was that they reworked the systems from ME2 to make them deeper. They actually listened to criticism about ME2 being dumbed down compared to the first (the first definitely needed its systems tweaked, it did not need them removed) and responded accordingly. For that I applaud them. Finally, this is getting kind of off-topic. Does anyone know a better thread we could move this discussion to?
