One of our wifi routers (being used as a switch/access point) was on the fritz, so I did some research and found this one for $70 that has performance on par with routers in the ~$250 range.

I do have an old HTPC that has been effectively replaced by my Fire TV Stick, so I've kind of turned it into a media server for the house. I just have it put to sleep most of the time, with wake-on-lan enabled so it'll come on when something tries to stream from it. That FreeNAS looks cool though, if I'm ever itching to do a computer project I might try setting that up.
