  1. I am certainly frightened and confused by it. I've tried to play it before, but quit when I realize I don't know how to do anything. At all.
  2. Whenever I say stuff like that my fiancee's always like "why do you always want a video game version? why not just play the real one?" The answer is: 1) I can't play the real version against a computer, and it's a PITA to try to get a bunch of people together to play certain games, like Risk. 2) It's easier to let the computer manage crap like card decks and dice rolls, so I get to focus on just playing.
  3. There are plenty of games I like, it just doesn't seem like any of them are universally hated.
  4. I thought the combat was fun too. Sure it's not as deep as other games, but it's enjoyable. And the fact that the game doesn't take itself seriously isn't a "bad" thing, it's just something that maybe you personally don't like. I love that it doesn't take itself seriously. That said, Fable III was a disappointment.
  5. This. I love it too. I'm huge on turn-based strategy games though, of all kinds, from Civilization to Risk to Valkyria Chronicals to Advance Wars.
  6. Burnout: Paradise Bioshock. I know, I know. The atmosphere is fucking fantastic, but the actually play just blows too hardcore.
  7. Holy crap, that's a fantastic deal.
  8. Yeah, people will say "a little bit" but almost never just "a bit".
  9. Is that at El Mez on 23rd street?
  10. I wouldn't ever say "I ate a part of pizza" referring to a slice, but if someone was like "Hey, what happened to the pizza?" I might say "I ate part of it." Usually that would mean I had a few pieces, though. Part = "component" or "fraction"
  11. I'd eat a piece of pizza. But what Battra was saying is that outside of a drill bit, a horse bit, or a binary bit, we almost never use the word "bit"... Well, it's also the past tense of "bite" I guess...
  12. You just wanted to post a picture of you with that hot girl.
  13. But that's what he's saying, in America you don't have a bit of cake or pizza, though you can be "a little bit" whatever, though usually in that case you'd leave off the bit and just be "a little drunk." In America (these are just the ones I can think of, others can add more): Tipsy Drunk Wasted Crunk/crunked-up Hammered Soused *Edit* Sloshed Plastered
  14. They drill this into us at Law school, tell us never ever ever write in legalese. The point being that you'll be a less effective advocate; the judge isn't going to be impressed by your big words and complex sentences, but he will have a harder time following your arguments, and therefore be less likely to rule in your favor. Most lawyers apparently don't get the message though. I know I still struggle with keeping sentences short. Whatever your field though, engineering advice to live by: KISS
  15. That's similar to how I look at it. I basically think of it as a retcon: if I really got shot, I obviously wouldn't still be going, so it must just have been a near miss that freaked me out. The ones that kill me/incapacitate me are the only "real" hits. This. So much this. And also the game saving you in an impossible situation because you simply do not have enough health to do what needs to be done (mostly only an issue when there are infinite enemies). Yeah, that's how Halo: Reach does it too, and I like it a lot. Your health is divided into 3 blocks, if you lose a whole block it's gone until you pick up a health pack, but if you only lose part of a block then that block will regen. That's of course in addition to the shields, which regen completely, though in a game where shields don't make sense, like CoD or whatever, I'd still be perfectly happy with the block system. Basically it means that as long as you don't actually die, you can regen at least up to 1/3 of your total health, and that's enough to give you something to work with.
  16. They're not. Being an Xenomorph is awesome, but the controls are too wonky. On to 3D Dot Game Heroes!
  17. In the order I thought of them: Super Mario Galaxy ilomilo Fallout: New Vegas Mass Effect 2 Darksiders Call of Duty: Black Ops Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Heavy Rain Read Dead Redemption Splinter Cell Conviction Brutal Legend GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony GTA IV: The Lost and the Damned Ico Dead Space Fable III Risk: Factions Limbo Enslaved Batman: Arkham Asylum Halo: Reach Moonbase Alpha (fuck you, I'm counting it) Flower PixelJunk Shooter This isn't counting games I've beat before.
  18. I was playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2, but fuck those choppers. So now I'm going back to AvP. Didn't think too much of the marine campaign, but maybe the Alien or Predator campaign will be more to my liking.
  19. Marked off Bad Company 2. Fuck those choppers. I hope the people responsible for those choppers die in a fucking fire.
  20. I am very much pro regenerating health. If you feel invincible, just crank up the difficulty so if you get shot twice you die, and that's no longer an issue.
  21. This. A million times this. I still haven't beat ME2 on Insanity because of those goddamned scions.
  22. Like I said, plenty of people call me Ethan IRL, so whatevs.
