Really? I mean, c'mon! How many gallons of kool-aid did you drink before making that comment? OK, I expect a higher level of intelligence here than I do from the average Kotaku commenter so I'll make the same argument I've made a bunch of times over there in the hopes that you can see where all of us "retarded video gamers" are coming from. I'll make it as brief and civil as possible but I can't make any promises. WE ARE CONSUMERS - As consumers, we have 4 basic powers. We can buy a game, we can avoid a game, we can praise and we can complain. It seems with many gamers, and I think you fall under this umbrella, that if you complain about a game or say you're not buying a game that you're a whiner, a troll, "just raging", retarded or all of the above and more. The fact of the matter is that in many cases, those accusations against the people who complain or boycott a game are entirely false. How and why are patches and balance changes released? BECAUSE PEOPLE COMPLAIN. Nothing will change for the better for the consumer if the consumer sits on their arse and just accepts what is given to them. The opposite will often happen. Left to do as they please, businesses will often ignore and harm the consumer for their own gain. Complaining about and boycotting a game does more than simply provide one with a sense of pride in their principles but it draws attention to issues people have with a game so 1) other consumers can consider the complaint and make a more informed choice and 2) the publishers/developers, as well as other publishers/developers can take note and improve the next time around. Let's look at MW2. I'm sure you had a hearty laugh at the image of the steam group and I bet you think that the boycott and all the nerdrage did nothing. But what's this? Dedicated servers are back in the CoD series? Why yes, yes they are. Why would a developer that supposedly made a big investment in IWnet and denied the importance of dedicated servers go back to using them? It's almost as if someone complained and they listened. It's almost as if there were mass complaints and they listened. We're not retarded for being angry, we're not retarded for complaining and if anything, your willingness to accept a product regardless of any problems you may have with it goes towards showing, to me anyway, a lower level of intelligence than the people you're calling retarded. So what does that make you? A vegetable?....Actually, that seems quite appropriate. In short, no consumer is retarded for voicing problems with a product and no consumer is retarded for choosing to avoid purchasing that product (boycotting) on those grounds. As for the second part of your comment, where did anyone claim that Blizzard should have to cater to every market? Because India was mentioned? Are you saying that only places with an internet connection should be catered to? That's quite a limited market. Not only are you excluding places like India that you couldn't give two shits about but you're also excluding places in the primary markets (North America, Europe, et al) because you're demanding something that won't be a reality for most people for a good many years - an always-on internet connection. No one is asking Blizzard to go out of their way to cater to every single gamer and their mom. What people are asking and complaining about is that basic shit is being taken away from them - like the ability to play a singleplayer game offline, the ability to set up a LAN game without being connected to the internet (And yes, this is, or rather was, a basic fucking feature of multiplayer PC games). You're saying they don't have to reach every single market and I completely agree. There's one thing you seem to have failed to realise however, they're not even catering to the entirety of their core market. Think before you start throwing around the word retarded because I haven't seen you making any good case here whatsoever. All you've done is antagonise those of us that have a problem with this.

The legal threat is bullshit and if Notch gives in, we're in for more ridiculous claims. I'm very interested in seeing how Scrolls turns out. I love TCGs and would often try creating my own. I think it's a given that we're going to have to buy cards if it's a TCG because for a business, that's one of the major reasons to create a TCG in the first place so I can live with that as long as the packs are fairly priced and I don't have to buy 20 packs to have a chance of getting 1 rare card.

It's a sad fact, CyberRat. There's too many who'll give out and say they won't buy but ultimately will and it doesn't help that Blizzard has one of the blindest group of loyalists around. Personally, I won't be buying it and while part of that is because I've already chosen to ignore Activision titles as a whole, I was willing to overlook that if Blizzard didn't do what they've done. it just cemented my stance even more. I'm just one guy and I'm not going to make a difference but I'd rather be proud and principled than play one game.

Game conservation is something I think a lot about and care deeply about. The thought that one day certain games won't be available because the industry and community left it too late to start archiving scares and saddens me. Game conservation, I believe, is the strongest argument for the development of emulators and digital backups. Take old cassette games for example. I've got a bunch of them still but should I ever decide to hunt down a system to play them on, I'll probably find that time has degraded the tape and left the games unplayable. Thankfully, most of the games I have are already archived...I think...they might all be....I should give them a second look. But yeah, I'm as much a collector as I am a player and I wholeheartedly support any drive to archive and conserve games. 200 years from now, I want my progeny be able to fire up Pssst or Dizzy.

With the game always being online, they can't support mods because singleplayer is still played on a server and I don't think Blizzard are going to allow people to run mods on the official servers.

this>this>this>this>this > this>that.

No LAN, no offline play, no mod support, published by Activision = No buy for me. I would have been willing to forget that it was published by Activision but sadly, I'll never forget that Activision published it because it's the same sort of shit that's been pulled with MW2 and SC2.

That just seems stupid. If people don't like Origin, they're not gonna wait for it to come out on Steam - they're just gonna get retail copies instead. I agree, it is stupid. This whole thing with Origin is stupid. Props to EA for stepping up to the plate with Origin but seriously, it's not needed and it's not wanted and it's just going to ultimately cause confusion among customers.
-
I guess so EA get the biggest slice of the pie on release. Keeping Valve from getting their fingers into it at the beginning should mean EA get a bigger chunk of the sales while Steam and other services get what's left.

Dreadmor has been stealing a load of my time since getting it. I still haven't got past level 4 but I'm doing pretty well on my latest build, even managing to defeat a Monster Zoo! Things I've learned: -Multi-class is hard. The purer the class, the easier it is...or so it seems. -Knightly Leap or some form of Teleport is essential if you want to get all the loot. -Disarming traps is a great way to level up.

Holy shit! We need to get mentioned on RPS more often!

Swearing in moderation can help to empower a statement, I believe. I don't believe it to be a crutch for less intelligent folk to use when they can't think of another way to put more bang behind their words. For instance, take a look at the following comment I made yesterday on Kotaku: I was responding to this comment (The article was about BF3): "Yay, one more FPS to add to the bunch. Let's run around and kill each other, again. And again and again and again." and this one "You can't deny that the market is oversaturated with first person shooters. People get sick and tired of it and I'm just here to voice my opinion on the matter.", both from the same person. My comment: "Give it over. "People get sick and tired of it". Bah! Then don't fucking buy them! Don't look at them, don't smell them, just stay away from them. The market is saturated with 3rd person action games, shitty twinstick shooters, MMOs and JRPGs yet who gives a flying fuck? More games of any genre means more choices FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ENJOY THEM. If you don't like them then why cry about them? You're just acting childish with that attitude. "I don't like them so they should just go away!" is basically what you're saying and it can't get much more childish than that." Let's take the first sentence where a swearword appears - "Then don't fucking buy them" - If we remove the "fucking", it loses some of its impact, it sounds like a nice suggestion rather than the strong order I was trying to drive home. The next use of a swearword is for pretty much the same purpose; to help drive the point home: "...yet who gives a flying fuck?". Now, I could have substituted "flying fuck" for "damn" or replaced that last bit of the sentence with "who cares?" but that doesn't quite get across just how stupid I think it is to care how many of a certain genre of games exist. There's no need to go overboard on swearwords but they can serve a purpose and while relying on them too much to drive a point home can make you look like you don't have much to stand on, I believe succinct use can add gravitas to a statement. One last example of where a swearword can change the meaning of a sentence: "Who cares what happens to Osama Bin Laden?" - As it stands, it could be taken up as a genuine question. Add a "the fuck" however and it becomes clear that it's rhetorical. "Who the fuck cares what happens to Osama Bin Laden?"

BLASPHEMER! BURN HIM! I love tea, I couldn't go a day without drinking a cup. It can take a while to find the type or even the strength of tea you like but once you find it, you'll love it. Also, tea tip: Substitute sugar for honey, it's delicious.

Until you get a grappling hook! Also a cheap and easy way to get back up is to just exit the world and rejoin, it throws you back to your spawn point every time you enter the world.

Tea for me is a Lyons Original teabag in a cup with 2 and a bit teaspoons of sugar and then the boiling water, wait for it to brew for a bit and then add the milk. If I was making a pot of tea, I'd use leaves if they were there or three teabags and then let it brew for a while. For a single cup of tea, I see people over here usually wait until after brewing the tea and removing the teabag before adding sugar and I used to do the same myself but then you get lumps of tea-coated sugar in the sugar bowl since nobody bothers to clean and dry the spoon before dipping in. As for mates and chaps, "lads" and "guys" is more common here in Ireland and for women you don't really know but know somewhat it's "that one" or "those ones" or "your one", "one" always referring to women in that context.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on this but man, it's been coming out for quite some time. This actually started as a phone game. Thank fuck they decided to throw it onto the PSP.

Ikaruga Radiant Silvergun Dodonpachi 19XX Aero Fighters And Dimahoo Most of those can be found on Mame. They're probably the ones I remember the most, if not my favourites. Ikaruga reigns supreme for me though. Such a perfect Shooter.

Along the lines of Claymore, I'd say Berserk, unless you've seen that already in which case I'd say Guin Saga. Spice and Wolf....I don't know, that was a pretty unique show in its own right and I haven't seen Black Butler so can't help there.
-
Emmm, let's see. Cowboy Bebop ....and that's all I can think of right now....oh wait! Detective Conan! On another note, has anyone seen Tiger & Bunny yet? I've just watched the first episode but it seems to be a winner.

You might also like StarDriver. It's not as ridiculous or even as awesome but it captures some of the great things about Gurren Lagann and it's worth checking out. On the subject of summer anime, who the hell said there was nothing good but Idolmaster?! There's Gintama, man! Gintama!

A friend of mine is the prime example of this. He bought a low-mid range SSD and it lasted him about 4 or 5 months, possibly even less using it as a main drive. This must have been faulty or something to begin with for that lifetime but it does go to show how much more volatile SSD storage can be compared to the traditional HDD at the moment. Unless you're prepared topay the big money for an SSD, I think it's better foregoing it for the time being.
