Alpha colony failed to hit it's goal of $50,000 by $28. Ain't that a kick in the nads. Also RPS did a roundup of succesful Kickstarter game projects n where they are now (like released, ocming soon, missed the mark etc) http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/11/28/the-kickstarter-successes-where-are-they-now/

Nothing out of the ordinary is kinda the point. Especially given the imagery they oculd have pulled from. And giant steampunk robot/men isn't exactly a common cover art trope.

Someone complete a game that no one else has completed this year please. Also as it currently stands between us we've beaten 345 games. (The 343rd game beaten been Scribblenauts Unlimtied not Halo 4 ) and unless 3 people(or 2 for a draw) beat Mass Effect 3 or Saint's Row The Third in the next 29 days then Batman Arkham City is this years most completed game. edit: Has no one beaten Borderlands 2? Also I forgot to check for dupes, need 4 people to beat a unique game no one lese has played this year. edit 2: If anyone wants a browse https://docs.google....LVFuN0FZd0t6RkE (Check second sheet for numerical order. Tab at the bottom)

Well then they should show us the nice looking "you don't need an advert on your home shelf, you've already bought it" reverse cover then. Bioshock 1 & 2 didn't feel the need to have generic as fuck cover and they obviously sold well enough or 2 and Infinite wouldn't exist. There's always the Terrible Box Art thread to show what happens when the cover is treat as an advert.

PXOD Secret Santa 2012 -- Targets Assigned!
deanb replied to P4: Gritty Reboot's topic in Event Planning
On sTeam you would gift by goingto the games page, hitting "Add To Cart" then click "Cart" and you'll see two green buttons "Purchase for myself" and "Purchase as a Gift". Pick the gift option, pick your giftee, add apprioriate message and they'll get a pop-up (and email) saying that they have been bought a gift. And it's Anonymous up until the part where they get the gift message. And it's generally the done thing to post on here who your Santa was and what they picked up for you. -
That post has "TheMightyEthan" in it 9 times Main reason I didn't stick it in the user profile field is because: 1. Many of you have repeated names across all services, it starts to look a bit silly. Ethan being a prime example 2. There's no working link, thus you can't really just click the ID on the side and see how folks are getting on, add them as a friend and so on. I had been debating on adding in Darkadia/Playfire but that'd bring up the count to seven (I'll likely remove Xfire though since afaik none of you have added that in)

Well I completed Runespell the other week, and that'd be a game that I would say was "too short", and its shortness was apparent rather early on. It's a game that would have thrived off being super long as it's basically Puzzlequest but with a sort of solitaire/poker instead of Bejeweled for battles. There's no leveling up system, so there's no reason to do any of the random battles. So it gets beaten in under 10 hours (And that's with my habit to alt-tab n make a cuppa/chat etc). If it had had a leveling up system of sorts it would expand replayabilty and given the player a reason to do the non-mission battles scattered around the map. Sam & Max are games that I'm surprised were under 3 hours to beat because they felt much longer, they really drag on with the need to dash back and forth between two areas (with the loading screen and animations that entails) and the stupidly slow walking they have. Probably one of the better paced short games is Portal. Beatable in under 4hours, if that, and it has really great pacing; combining tutorial with main game seemlessly, and providing plenty of variety in the levels. There's next to no story, just pure game. There's also those games where the pacing just gets so frantic that the game suddenly endings and you're like "wait, credits?, but there's surely another half of the game still left!" I've done one like that in the past year and I can't quite remember which. Maybe SWFTU II....actually on closer inspection likely Deathspank. Only 11hours long for an RPG-ish game.

I had a similar discussion on this topic a month or so back on Twitter. I feel that the quality/quantity stance can be pretty bad as it assume that games of 100hr+ lengths are shitty and a game 10 minutes long would let you see god. And that's clearly not the case. For one if games of long length were shit then people wouldn't play them for 100hrs+. As I'm someone who has had somewhat limited funds for a while I can't really be splashing out for games that'll last 10hrs then be done with. And we're not really in a world where price is no object. And even then, if the games are £10 instead of £40, you'd likely still go with the longer game. A game being "repetitive" is of no problem if the thing that is repetitive is good. Puzzle Quest is pretty much just a string of "battles" carried out through bejeweled-like puzzles with a spell system on top, the missions being "battle this person" "unlock this door" all through the same battle system. But the battle system is enjoyable. No game will be constantly unique throughout, and when they try it you'll likely find people dislike it; see the Tower Defense mode of AC:R and the love that receives. And filler is fine so long as it's not overly obvious filler. Like Borderlands 2 having you just go back to main mission areas to kill off a new boss there. That's shitty filler. But I'm currently having fun blasting about hunting wildlife to upgrade my items in FC3, and that's something that could be removed and just have my buy them. About the only issue with long games to short games is they can be much harder to complete. Longest game I have that I've finished (as measured by Steam) is Witcher at 60 hours (followed by DOWII at 40 hours, but that's including expansions). And the shortest are the Sam & Max games, which I'm forcing myself to complete (whereas they should be around 60 times better than Skyrim).

PXOD Secret Santa 2012 -- Targets Assigned!

Why not assign everyone a number, then use a random number genrator to pick who goes with who? Then you're not picking for yourself. -

Steam Wishlisht Country: England Background I'm primarily a PC gamer, but kinda straddle between the two. I'm more a PC gamer due to the fact the games are cheaper, and I'm mainly on my PC so it's much simpler to boot up. I like controller-based games so I won't turn my nose up at some games that pretty much require it. I like slower paced games, I'm not the fastest of gaming reactions (and do play games on normal/easy). What are your favorite genres? I would say RPGs, but Raptr says "Action games". One game type I definitely like is money making games, but there's not as many of those around. Like SimCity, Themepark (oh god EA what did you do to it?), Assassin's Creed, Dwarf Fort and so on. So if there's elements of money making/empire buidling(business or otherwise) I'll likely enjoy it. I also kinda like shooters, but the wierder ones instead of the modern military/world war types. Stuff like Bulletstorm, Crysis(1), Bioshock, Far Cry 3, etc. Oh and I hate horror games (and movies) and don't care much at all for "arty farty" games. What are your favorite games? FFIX is always one to immediately throw out there. Not much sure on others. I've got InFamous, DXHR, Minecraft, Defense Grid, DOW, n Civ V on my Darkadia favourites so I guess those too. Steam would also imply Bethesda games too. Are you okay with getting games not on your wishlist or other digital gifts? I guess, there's likely plenty of games I'd like if only I had it shoved in my face to play. I'm playing Avadon: The Black Fortress at the moment and I'd likely never given it a look if it hadn't been in the Humble Android Bundle. As for "other digital gifts" I would say unles it's specifcally on my wishlsiht, no to DLC.

PXOD Secret Santa 2012 -- Targets Assigned!

With regards to Wishlishts on steam, you can click and drag them around in order of preference. Remember to hit "Save" at the bottom when finished. Also afaik regional restrictions only apply with the buying, not with the recieving. E.g if you wante3d Far Cry 3 and I was your Santa, you're fucked. Whereas in reverse it's not as much of an issue. -
Wait is that a random offer, or like Portal 2 with the "buy on PS3, get it on PS Vita free"? Also Seth Green as Nolan North is not good
-
It's likely a bit of both. I can set it up to show on posts if folks want, though it'll look a bit out of place without a link.

It's worth noting most guys can eawsily be gotten via the PXOD Steam Group. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/PXOD#members -
btw is the poll worth removing, no one would object?

It's likely just a patent and will remain that way. If you dig about there has been quite a few posts about sony patents over they years and the only one of any existince is the software emulation of the Emotion Engine chip. The rest, like the emotion tracking n stuff, stay on the paper.

Yeah ethan that's an error page. Sorry I should have specified; fingers crossed on UK Steam release.

PXOD Secret Santa 2012 -- Targets Assigned!

Also be adeding other people to Steam too, so as not to arouse suspicion of who you have in particular. (I kinda figure maybe P4 will send off the list of folks a bit before he sends out the specfiic secret santas) -
Fingers crossed for English workers this time around.

I don't think it comes out here until 6th. Maybe came out in Russia early since I've seen Maritan playing it.

So I've being playing about in this, definitely gonna see on grabbing it (though I'm to understand it's currently tied to Ubi store for downloads, so fingers crossed on Steam release). It's pretty great. You feel very much like a survivor, trawling through the jungle taking out any one and anything in your path and leaving no trace. I especially like the scavenging/hunting and crafting mechanic. You use pelts to upgrade your equipment; wallet, ammo pouches, quiver, gun sling etc, and plants to make health potions or enhancement drugs. So if you liked doing that in RDR you'll love it in FC3 because it doesn't have a stupidly long animation (you slit the knife once and dump the hide in your bag). Oh and like RDR you too can be hunted, up to now I've been killed by sharks and tigers. I've seen a lion wandering about too I think. I'm currently playing the role of the new Oliver Queen origin story. And it's fun as fuck to do so (though seems a tad OP that arrows one hit kill compared to bullets). It pretty much takes all the awesome things they bigged up about FC2, while taking out the shitty things like frequent guard posts (now there's little bases and roving guards) and the naf story (this one is feeling a bit more fleshed out, none of the rubbish civil war stuff of FC2). You can see from the above shot that fire is still there (though a bit harder to start, in that case I stupidly drove right off a cliff and my car burst into flames), though the green grass instead of dry grass jsut looks like it's in shadow instead of burnt to a crisp. Oh yeah there's also fast travel, and none of that conflict diamond stuff which got pretty dull, just plenty of crates with random junk in them. Like Oh and it has stolen two parts from Assassins Creed; climbing towers to open up more of the map, and zip lines. There's also vines and ledges to climb too which weren't in FC2 either. Adds a bit more range to the angle of attack.
