  1. I have nothing to do on Wednesday, does anyone want to do some Dota 2/Civ V/other tomorrow night(GMT)? Newbs welcome as always.

Tomorrow is tuesday.. Actually I have no idea what day it is in England right now, but either ways if you're referring about playing on Wednesday I'm sorta interested if others join.

And Tuesday night is before Wednesday. As I've nothing to do I can play games, with Americans, on Tuesday with no repercussions on Wednesday. Every other day this week I have something for 10AM or work.

So to absolutely clarify: Is anyone interested on playing games on the night of 27th November?

  2. Today has been pretty busy, but it has been a good day. Also very wet.

  3. You can hit the on the recommendations for stuff that's irrelevant and it'll fill in with new ones. The main aim is to recommend DLC and sequels for you to buy. Unlike stuff like Netflix where it'll crunch massive algorithms and you're paying up already so their incentive is to keep you watching, get hooked on new TV series. Play Store is equally sucky recommendations for the same reason (You grab the preview of 50 shades for your mum once and that's all it ever throws at you. And unlike Steam there's no "I don't care for this" either.) Because steams recommendation engine is so simplistic having 300 games only makes it worse for you, rather than refine it. I played Dota 2, therefore I must like CS 1.6. And 5 of them are "content for your game". Nor has it taken into account I've already got Dishonored on my wishlist. (which it normally goes "Wishlist item is on sale", but I guess that fucks up during these events.)
  4. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20492908 So UN Habitat are having a bit of a marketing stunt with Minecraft and "Minecraft Modelling Firm" Fyre UK ( ) to make some urban regeneration projects in Minecraft and let residents walk around the virtual environment. Because up to now no one has ever made a proper architectural design software that can create higher fidelity than the 1M2 blocks of Miencraft.
  5. Added Wii U/Nintendo ID thingy. Same with PSN if anyone knows a profile site I can add it as a clickable link.

    Wii U

Done. Is there any website associated with them? (like there is for Steam/PSN/Gamertag)
  7. What rest of us that stone folks to death? At least on here most of us highly recommend 360 pad for PC n those that don't mainly play grand strategy. And yeah big screen is neat, shame as soon as beta hit I ended up having to put my tele in living room So not much use from it.
  8. Runespell: Overture. It's a bit shit. Could maybe do with some proper form of levelling up (instead of "pass story point B get HP+ card B") and maybe some balancing; Enemies tend to be stronger than you, and require less "RP" to pull off more powerful attacks than you, thus the only thing between you and them is pretty much the luck of the draw. Most wins will be narrow. Because there's no levelling up there's no incentive to do any battles beyond those in the quests, and the storyline is pretty short n flimsy.

    Sim City V

A Sim City Q&A. I'm liking the modular stuff. I hadn't realised Terraforming had been cut :/
  10. Might it be best to add a section for GOG profile too if folks are also maybe to be adding stuff via GOG too? (Maybe a option for preference too, like if same game is on GOG n Steam, would they like DRM-freeness or steamworksness)
  11. LotR day! (also Doctor Who's 49th birthday)

  12. Errm, no one, not even the ever critical FDS, has said that.
  13. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009FQSICM/ref=kinw_myk_ro_title My first ever eBook purchase (normally just grabbed the public domain ones). Cos it is/was 20p
  14. I've being playing Puzzle Quest 2 on my phone again. It's good, I played a crap ton of the first on my PSP, and it's a game well suited to the touch controls over having buttons. There's nothing too deep to the story but there is one. Main gameplay is in the battle system, and there's a fair few unique battle types (I hate looting though, you end up with the advancing wall eating sooo many treasure chests :/) And in the similar vein started on Runespell the other week which plays out pretty similar to the original Puzzle Quest, but you're using cards and aligning poker sets instead of gems. Which also means the gameplay is much more simplistic. Unlike Puzzle quest where your special attacks requirei certain amountso f gems, with Runespell you build up MP(or whatever) by completing card sets, and then your special powers just have a certain amount of MP to use, nothing like "double Daggers: Requires Two Pair" "Dragons Breath: Full House" or something like that.
  15. http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/the-perils-of-greenlight-how-towns-enraged-a-community-by-selling-a-game-th I mentioned about this on Twitter a week or so back, now PAR have a nice article up about it. Basically Towns was put up on Steam a couple weeks back via Greenlight. But it's not finished yet, and doesn't point this out (beyond the recent addition of "Towns is continually being developed and updated to bring you the best experience possible!"). It all kinda sucks because it's a game I've being following on n off, as it sells itself as a bit of a Dwarf Fort like game (just a bit simpler/prettier), and turns out the devs are a bit iffy. Though that does tend to happen with devs having no PR shield between them and consumers. This also comes as a: Hold out on buying Towns until it's cooked (which is what I shall be doing, also on sale too)
  16. I'm trying to remember where I read it (and it was only recent), but the knack to writing strong female leads is supposedly you write it as a male, then swap the gender. Which is probably why FemShep is lauded so much; she's exactly the same dialogue, attitude, situations as her male counterpart. All that changes is the avatar that acts those scenarios out. Also in regards to Samus there's plenty of male characters that are pretty much blank slates too. It's mainly due to how games ave been made over the generations, and she's pretty old. Hence the "outside of Other M", that being the most modern Metroid it has the touches of modern games in giving the protag personality and background.
  17. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-21-far-cry-3-review EG have given it 10/10. I am hyped. I think this may be picked up with my first pay check. Thankfully it seems like the scripted parts that get shown in the trailers and such are pretty much just at the start of the game (which was true of FC2, and that quickly opened up). Seems they've taken on board the criticisms of FC2 as well, so no respawning guard outposts and repetitive slogs back n forth. Just you and the jungle. And mercenaries. And sharks. And the odd bear or two.

  19. Okay I'll spell it out (because Mass Effect doesn't appear in the article), but Faith is the exclusively female lead of...Mirror's Edge.
  20. You might want to re-read my post. There's context clues.
  21. http://penny-arcade....nt-support-them A timely article. Though I'd like to have a look at what data they have (kinda funny to put Faith up top when ME has sold over 2 million copies, not a number to be snuffed at. Though not as high as stuff like COD), like the raw numbers, and what games it is that they're comparing. Especially as you're definitely going to have high marketing budgets on first party titles (like InFamous, Gears, Uncharted, Halo, etc), and they tend to be the games with male protagonists(Heavenly Sword is all that comes to mind that isn't), there's not much comparative data to be had in that sector. Compared to third party stuff where you've got much wider spectrum of games so more diluted marketing budget for many.
  22. https://twitter.com/...202320606457856 ...Or from an ex EA executive. Also gotta say I'm surprised a thread about a game that doesn't exist has gotten to be 6 pages long. edit: make that 7.
  23. Baton down the hatches. Steam Sale!

Yeah I either own the games already or they're not cheap enough for a "I'll give it a shot". Should be good to go for Xmas sale though, will have wages then.

I'm jumping on The Witcher 2, even though my PC will cry and hate me. I'm thinking about Xcom too, I'm just worried I'll see it even cheaper during the coming weeks.

  24. Kinda. Given it's "Aaron and his sons". Remember, it has quite a bit to say on women and their olde-worlde place in society. However for the most part this is CofE law stuff and they're free to interpret and ignore the bible as they see fit. Hence female priests and gay priests n such.
