http://www.ouya.tv/game-developers-how-to-get-started-on-ouya-now/ They've a post up that gives a fair bit of info on making games for it, mainly in the "what specs to aim your game for". Also stated it's gonna be Jelly Bean too (Jelly Bean came out like right before or right after their KickStarter so it was at the time listed as ICS). Probably one of the biggest tweaks to their game devs will need to take into account is that there's no back or menu buttons, which could prove to be an issue. Mainly at the moment saying to test run it on a Tegra 3 tablet should give you a good idea of where your game will be at with running speeds n such on the Ouya.

Apology not accepted. Mainly cos if you'd read stuff you wouldn't have had to say the next line, There's a reason the thread title is "in quotation marks like this".

I recommended a fair few here: http://deanbmmv.wordpress.com/2012/08/23/my-recommended-android-apps-for-august/ I could recommend a ton of games though. I'm currently playing with Skitch from Evernote guys, should work well for my Note, replacing the in-built S-Memo app with double bonus of having it sycned with my desktop. Wacom knocked out a sort of note making app too for the Note n S3 but it was woefully shit. Had a nice feel to it, but it was sub-par in usability.

Was gonna post about this, guess it answered my question of whether or not they're in contempt of court. That won't put Apple on the right side of judges for a while. Though I've a feeling after this they won't touch UK courts of their own will for some time.

I heard Okami HD is okay, a decent reason to use a PS Move. It'll probably review well but not sell in reflection.

Funnyjunk sucks for hotlinking btw.

To be fair it's not Hitman. They'd have to really narrow the scope of the game. Like think to Witcher n how relatively small it is as far as RPGs go. Yet it has stuff like you described, for example in one quest you're trying to find a killer, and if you just go along with it all, then you point to the wrong man. But if you buy and read a book on forensic anatomy (this is something you do off your own back, not part of the quest) or something like that, then during the autopsy instead of Geralt nodding along he points out specific things he's observed, and from that you get the right guy straight off. Can mainly only do that in games that don't cover whole cities with tons of characters and variables all over the place. With how open GTA IV is (And likely V too) you'd need to put a shit ton of work in each mission to make everyone have a phone number to call and distract them, or a timetable that you can drop in on them to get rid of them without raising any questions. Instead they make it so it's scripted with specific missions using specific functions. You make it open, you lose control.

I've a Note. Love it. It's great for media, apps, all sorts. Pretty good at making Notes too weirdly enough... (hehehe). As far as size goes it's not an issue at all, though I guess depends if you make a habit of wearing skinnies trousers or not. It's quite nice for making calls on actually(though my previous phone was a wildfire, a bit too small in that regard). About the only major issue is the screen is larger and thus bit more of a battery drain than other devices. The Note II has the side-by-side apps too I think which is neat. Reviews all round have been good (especially after they got over mocking the original Note)

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with Metro style/window 8 look/whatever it is now. I use Outlook.com over Hotmail for example. The issue taken to task is FDS's assertion that in Windows 8: "Colors help you tell things apart easier. Colors are very useful.". When they're not. It's just a smattering of random colours for the sake of making pretty marketing screenshots.

With regards to brightness it doesn't really matter if it's in the Charms menu since as we've already established at this point most folks use the hardware keys. Apart from it seems on Macs, which means Windows have managed to make an OS feature for Macbooks. *Clap clap* I'm using it as an example of how you can make a new OS (if you could call old phone software an "OS") and still retain the same workflow for basic things. Like turning off a computer or phone. Simplistic doesn't make it simpler. Most granny computer training courses are also built on the same Windows of the last 12 years. The new interface takes all the elements of computer use they've been taught and throws it out the window. The 3 year old who had been shown how to use the computer already? If daddy has sat him down and even talked him through the names of all the new elements then no wonder he knows how where those bits are. Come one, it has been dismissed already. No their money lies in enterprise. How many hundreds of computers, OSes and software packages do you buy? Joe schmo on the street doesn't have anywhere near the purchasing clout of a company with hundreds if not thousands of employers. Yes that's the Show Desktop that you were repeatedly adamant " Show dekstop was removed as a shortcut in Windows 7." Soo..hmmm. No it made perfect sense where it was before. That's why it's in pretty much the same place on every desktop OS except Windows 8. How you can continue to justify Windows 8 changes to putting it within Charms - Settings - Power is insanity at this point, nevermind saying it is any more intuitive. Colours tends to be used in a variety of ways, reds as warnings, greens as okays, and so on. I'm not your school teacher so I shouldn't really be needing to tell you how colour works. No other OS has plastered itself with such a garish range of colours before, or tried to say that "Colors help you tell things apart easier. Colors are very useful.". As demonstrated: no they're not. The only use they have, as Fuchi has highlighted, is as a fix to the fact most of the icons are now just solid white symbols in solid colour squares. So it just fixes something that is only broken because of change for the sake of change. Form over function. A list holds a lot more in the same space, especially as Microsoft have seen fit to put a hard cap on how many tiles a screen can show regardless of how large your monitor may be. Hence the increased functionality, especially if unlike yourself, you don't know of every program installed on your PC. And yes a proper Windows for Tablets would have been fine, Windows RT is already locked off from the X86 side of things as is. People are used to their iPad not running the same stuff as their Macbook, why would Windows be any different? Then just have Windows 8 as the natural progression on the desktop side of things. No frankenOS, no need to make website that tell you how to do simple things like shut down a computer, no need to split components of the OS all over the place. Just a proper, usable, functional upgrade and successor to Windows 7

"Hey cousin, want to go bowling?" Oh and that sniper mission where you call the guy so he'll stand at his window.

Been a while since I've played SR2. Main point was given the features of current games, expect a smartphone. Wouldn't be surprised if it comes with some games built in it too.

@Jay: The point isn't if tablets and phones provide a AA experience. I'm going to re-iterate again: The core, aka "AAA's biggest fans" are likely to remain on console. Especially as when you even mention mildly frustrated avians they see red. As for how much these kinds of games make, I'll go into that below (cos I'm totally editing this response in after the fact cos I noticed I missed out your post ). But it doesn't really matter too much if there's not a single game pulling in the $1billion of COD. It's that there's many hundreds of thousands eating at the corners. As far as X-COM goes I'm to understand there's a few games about that are looking to emulate the experience of the originals. @Ethan: Wooh. @Excel: 5million*$40 = $80million income. Rovio report a $100million yearly income on Angry Birds, and that's not taking into the fact one of these games is much cheaper to develop and practically free to distribute(that part is important). In case your'e wanting to know the number crunching. And that's one game up against another. The Nintendo line-up quickly dwindles once you leave the realm of Mario or WiiBlank games. With the overall line-up (unfortunately that's all apps, not just games) they've a turnover on iOS alone of about $7billion, which even slashing in half(most paid apps are games though) makes $3billion income on iOS alone. Super Mario is a first party title, compared to the likes of "Carnival Games" they're pretty "AAA". @Atomsk: Google did a report on tablet use, and found 50% of tablet users play games, with it being the second most common use after checking emails. (Social networking in third). As already noted in my response to Excel most of the time the top paid for apps are games. If you're looking to sell an app, make it a game (of course you can also make your game free and put ads on them or IAP). Also it doens't matter much on how much the "AAA-like" tablet games are selling since those aren't exactly the games pulling in the casual crowd. I kinda wish the WIi U was out. Makes it much easier to look at where things could be going if we could compare a new console up against the era of tablets than the 6 year old pre-android/ios consoles. Especially as upcoming console has a tablet of sorts.

I imagine it'll be much further played upon this time. iPhone was relatively new back during GTAIV development. The phone in use within the game is still and old fashioned bar phone with buttons n such (SR3 brings in a smartphone). Quite a lot changed between then and now actually (of which the recession seems to be the biggy of GTAV)
-
Yeah while it took longer than preferable, Steam at least lets you set the tiles without having to go and get some third party tool.
-
Excel have you followed this thread from the start, including the kinda prerequisite article right at the top? It's not "Mario has drop dead", and no one expects Mario to be offset to negative billion sales. That's just stupid. The point however was that Angry Birds is proving to be a much wider phenomenon, aided by it's high availability, wide range of platforms, and low price. The only way you're going to buy Mario is if you go out of your way to pick up a Nintendo console. And 5million is still waaaayy less than 1billion.

Well this: http://steamcommunity.com/id/deanbmmv/wishlist Plus I guess AC3 for PS3, but it'll likely be a rental since it's easy beaten in under two weeks and I don't care for the MP. Oh and Far Cry 3 too but that's an "unsure". Certainly have nothing at the moment I'll be diving onto ASAP. In the far flung future there's also Last of Us and Watchdogs. Oh and I guess Cyberpunk too but there's still so little info on that game beyond it being CDP.

The thing with the Nintendo games being only available on the Nintendo consoles is it means it only applies to those who like the Nintendo games in the first place. And it's worth pointing out a fair chunk of their recent influx of players don't see Mario, they see Mii (their latest Mario game even has Mii's in it). Anyway, it's the same with all first party games and consoles, it's not really a thing exclusive to Nintendo. (Though as already mentioned investors would love if it wasn't the case). And yeah, t-mobile example was stupid. I just remembered them being used for marketing stunt and grabbed it when it popped up as t-mobile one. Wait which is it? It's not any more popular than Mario because Mario is a Nintendo power house, or it's more popular than anything? dammit folks have wrote stuff. *edits stuff* Exactly. Consoles become the sole home of COD. If you're not COD or COD-like then you can kindly fuck off. (Unless you're Minecraft in which case you can be a PC game then a mobile game, then be a console game and take CODs crown). MS have put Halo 4 as one of their most expensive games yet, and I'd wager most of the games released this month and into early next won't be cheap to make and develop. The non-AAA just can't cope with those kinds of figures consoles require and the small amount it gives back in return. But PC and tablet certainly provides a home for that; cheap to nothing for the "devkits" (where required) and a massive userbase to draw from and next to no external pressure from competing with the marketing the big AAA studios throw at a single game. And a long tail too, with PC and phone/tablet being almost wholly digital your product is kept constantly "in stock" so you're not even needing to focus all marketing efforts on making your game do well for just a couple weeks. So you were being silly/pedantic? You know full well the discussion is about modern phones, tablets and PCs. Though you did at least provide an instance to show a stark juxtaposition between the kind of products on offer in previous generations and thus why they can't be used to wholly base the future on. I don't think you meant to call those apps a dime a dozen, unless one of us doesn't know how to use that phrase. Surely you mean the cheap simple games are a dime a dozen. The games like Horn and such aren't exactly common (though getting more common as time goes on). And I'm not aiming to even show these as "gamers games". As I've said several times now, consoles are there and will continue to be there as a "core gamers" platform. btw Infinity Blade is currently only at 2 games, and the first game grossed $23million, the second game has no sales figures listed (and iTunes unhelpfully doesn't list any on the app either).

Your Nokia 3310 ran games like this When consoles had this Compared to now where a tablet games is like this: Or this: (And this one was a PITA to find cos I couldn't be sure it wasn't the console version screenshots I was picking up in my search) edit: This one is by the way. It's yanked from the Unreal site, it's one of their featured mobile games. Or this Using a 3310 as a "well this is a phone and didn't win over gamers despite it's lack of games market, SDK, hardware, ability to even be compared with a console, etc etc" doesn't really work as a modern comparison.

I haven't had extensive use of many laptops but my laptop's(netbook's) brightness settings are controlled by the firmware, and works regardless of the OS included. It's a button on the keyboard itself. Yeah, I already learnt how to use Windows (and by extension KDE too), why should I need to relearn Windows, and why did Windows have to " update their shit eventually", you've made similar sentiments several times now but never expanded beyond them (though you did highlight OSX as a reason why, despite OSX being the fucking same for over ten years now). My Android point is that despite being a new OS, it still uses the old "turn phone off" paradigm as phones of yore, thus requiring zero retraining in that aspect of modern phone use. Despite the fact you'd seemingly want the off settings for a phone where they intuitively belong in the Menu - System Settings - Battery- Power Off and Restart. Or fuck it continue using Windows 7 and not have to install anything. Windows 8 doesn't do anything to make Facebook any easier to use. And I also don't see the point in making an OS that doesn't appeal to enterprise or gamers either. Enterprise is huge business for Microsoft, and gaming is a big edge that MS currently still retain over other OSes. My "Show Desktop" image is still there for me, and I'm guessing it worked for others too. But here it is again. It'd be nice to not use Task Manager, but that's not really the reality of the world we live in. Programs hang, apps hog up all the resources, and so on. Ethan made the point of the irony that the Orb used to be called "Start" and you use that to "end" your PC. Something Microsoft fixed 7 years ago. He still points out "it's a lot simpler than the Win8 method.". Fuchi expanded even further on this point with the fact the "unnamed orb" houses everything. The Start Screen that replaces it, doesn't. Saying Windows 8 is to Windows Phones as iPad is to iPhones doesn't win many points Especially when people would prefer if the comparison that could be made was to Windows itself. Colour would be useful if it wasn't using all the colours of the rainbow for no reason at all. Let's see shall we. Weather today is cold, something is wrong with my photo collection(too much of my RDA?), my calendar, mail and stock apps are still running, internet explorer is also cold today as well as the store, and I have only Purple Rain in my music collection. The colours of Windows 8 tiles mean diddly squat and serve only to distract rather than inform.
