  1. Firstly: Not a "Games as art" thread, I think we have one of those already. But a thread to discuss the visuals in gaming, the good, the bad, the ugly and so on. Here's the article prompting me to start the thread: http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/EricSchwarz/20120728/174833/How_Much_is_Too_Much_Detail.php A decent article about how keeping things simple, or at least visually consistent, can be much better for a game than creating a game with intricate touches of detail all over the place. Something I can certainly agree with. I know and hgely appreciate the reason why most games have explosive red barrels. Cos we know as people, and especially as gamers, that red barrels go boom. And we know that in a split second. Same as you know you can crawl through vents and small units about 5 foot off the ground and sticking out the wall are going to recharge us or similar function.

    Apple

I dunno. Fair bunch of judges already told Apple n co to fuck off when making patent cases. I think currently US is one of the few places left that's entertaining the idea of these cases anymore, and in the grand scheme of things that won't matter because Apple have a somewhat decent-ish foothold in the US.

    Apple

Yeah I'm gonna guess that Samsung would have to use that in a later counter case.
  4. http://election.twitter.com/ Well this will go well.

    Windows 8

http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/ It's now RTM. And with a timeline heading up for full release.

    Valve

http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/linux/faster-zombies/ So they've being giving Left4Dead a spin between their Windows version and their Linux version and the OpenGL Linux version is running a fair bit faster. It's running 315fps on Linux versus 270fps on Windows. Something they didn't quite expect. I wonder if this would change their choice of API in future.

    Apple

It's not being used in the case because Samsung don't own time travel devices and therefore the F700 at the very least can't be based on the iPhone because it was produced before the iPhone was a thing.,

    Apple

So Apple are still suing every other company under the sun, and especially true of their main competitor Samsung. You see Samsung have done the most heinous evil of copying Apples "black rectangular touch screen phone with a button underneath it" design. So they've taken Samsung to court (and for other stuff too) citing a bunch of phones where Samsung copied Apples iconic iPhone design. This includes the Samsung F-700. Problem: The F700 came out before iPhone was announced. So Apple withdrew this from their court case. Samsung had a press release on this, and now Apple are moaning about that to the Judge and want to automatically win their case cos of this press release.
  9. Well that took them long enough. I don't get what was so hard, unless they assume "put it in a tech video, no one watches tech videos". Shame for a engine tech video they still had the enemies bodies sliding through each other. (And all that Gamestop content they're working on during the games certification process....).
  10. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1523379957/oculus-rift-step-into-the-game I'll save folks the bother: "It's a scam" "Well couldn't you do this by just taping two TVs to your glasses?" "Pfft as if they'll get Final Fantasy or Grand Theft Auto on that". In all seriousness it's a VR headset. That's really all that needs to be said. It's one of those products that is nice in theory cos it's a bit like the Holodeck, just in practice it isn't. And until we get the Holodeck it's a bit of a shitty technology hardly anyone will care about or use. How are the sales for that Phillips Ambient Nature(or whatever it was called), Razr Wands, or Kinect PC n all that lot? Sure there will be games that supprt it. Dig through and plenty of games support all sorts of obscure devices. Don't mean the consumers do.
  11. It's only just August, it'll be a few months off yet. Won't have a date until a month or so before start. I'd say it'll finish a month or so before Xmas. So as not to have the Xmas one right in the middle of the series and to give a bit of breathing room between the finale n the nice n lovey dovey Xmas special.

  13. http:// may get hidden on browsers these days but you'll find it a fundamental part of a URL. I'm gonna take a guess that it's not as obvious as "The Daleks kill Amy Pond". Cos they wouldn't put that in the trailer.
  14. Wiggins, Tour de France and Olympic gold in the space of a fortnight. Not bad.
  15. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-08-01-lost-humanity-6-killing-pirates And article on EG on the topic of "killing pirates". First step: Get rid of the term "pirate/piracy".
  16. Chocolate philly? Don't be silly. (I hear it's good, but Kraft are cocks for doing it. They said they'd leave Cadburys alone)
  17. as promised, my haul from the other day. Panda rug is cos my aunt is a Panda nut.
  18. As in to drink? It's for making coffee cakes n stuff. At least that's how it has always been used in my family, like vanilla extract n such.
  19. So what's with the badminton disqualifications. What purpose would it serve for those teams to be throwing their matches (by the sounds of it it has been both sides, so not like someone is trying to rig the matches cos you don't have both teams lose). Also WWOOOOH ROWING GOLD IN YO FACE!!
  20. My 9 year old sister has seen the last harry potter and still doesn't believe me that harry potter dies.(I may have told her many films ago...)
  21. When video is uploaded and when video is produced can be two different times. Especially given that video had to become unclassified. In some cases, like for Boston FBI, the video might be uploaded before it's produced.

    Ouya

Given the similar origins I'd expect GTAIII to come merrily skipping along soon. Both have android ports, both had controller support in past lives(in fact I think it's still built in)
