  1. What Modern Family pushes is a message of "our family is different and wacky and you think it's funny but it's every bit as equal and good as your family." That's a liberal message one which evangelical Christians would not agree with. The fact that you don't see that as the message of the show is a reflection of your own bias. Well again, there have been many good scientific books written on the subject providing evidence. The things you're referring to are examples of adaptation or if you must use the term, microevolution. It's all changes within a species. Also, breeding dogs has not been something that's really increased the effectiveness of the species. Bred dogs are less intelligent than wolves and other wild animals and pure breed dogs specifically have many more health issues. Also as far as the elephants without tusks go that would be an example of jumping to conclusions. Any faith can be distorted and used for evil. I agree with you on this. Everyone is pushing there own agenda too. I agree with this as well. My point was that it's false to say that only christians push their beliefs on others (clearly shown from this thread and the US politics thread). I mean I saw many many people telling me that I need to mind my own business but they weren't exactly minding their own business by telling me to mind my own business and now I'm not minding my own business by telling them that telling me that minding my own business is oh I don't even know what is going on anymore.... @6264: I didn't forget about you, just been too busy to prepare a good response. Don't worry, it's coming. Yes, that's the message of the show, but it's fair from a "liberal" bias. If anything, it's an intellectual bias, and if there's one trend I've been seeing over and over again in the conservative, evangelical sector recently, it's been a frightening strain of anti-intellectualism. Children and adults are being taught that it's preferable to be stupid and left to their own prejudices, and it's not only sad but also a big warning light that should be flashing throughout the nation. People are too afraid to go out and educate themselves properly because they're worried some bearded man in the clouds will smite them for thinking differently. It pains me to see people like that, because I know that if there were some way to free them from their shackles, they would not only become more productive members of society (ending the aggressive bullying of people who are different and focusing on progress, not keeping some book of outdated rules sacred), but they would also be happier people in the end.

  3. Would you argue that pushing family values is pushing the conservative agenda? I thought most people on both sides think that having strong family groups is something to be pursued, depending on your definition of family of course. I think a family can be fine, but I don't really understand stressing a giant importance on it, especially when so many of these dumb "family advocacy" groups are hate groups in disguise.
  4. Tyler Perry's movies aren't as overt as something like Fireproof, but they feature heavy gospel themes (several of the movies/plays feature prominent gospel musicians, and many scenes take place in a church) and preach about the importance of family. Madea has a daughter, Cora Simmons, who is a devout Catholic and lays it on pretty thick. She's in almost every Madea production.
  5. The main conflict in The Incredibles is between this super-powered family and a man that wants to make sure "no one is special" by giving everyone in the world access to gadgets that would essentially give them the same powers a superhero would have. The reason Mr. Incredible and his family are so down and out at the beginning is the government essentially "regulates" them, so they aren't allowed to fulfill their potential. It preaches the dangers of awarding mediocrity, and these people are so much better than humans, so why don't they get to be better than humans in public? The movie practically sets up these gifted individuals as the true heroes, and anyone attempting to reach their level "unnaturally" is considered a villain.
  6. Yant, I can name many movies that push a conservative, Christian agenda. First, let's get the obvious one out of the way and say Atlas Shrugged: Part 1. Then there's Seven Days in Utopia, which is all about finding God in golf. There's Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof, and Courageous, four movies made by the same Christians that are all about finding Jesus and living a conservative life. I only saw Facing the Giants out of those four, but I can say that it was the most bullshit sports movie I've ever seen. All of their problems, even infertility, were solved by just saying a few prayers. You don't suddenly become an ubercoach because you threw up a few Hail Marys. Anything Tyler Perry and anything Madea. Since you used Recess as an example of liberals indoctrinating our youth, I thought it was only fair to include The Incredibles, the granddaddy of all conservative, Randian cartoons, made by none other than Disney and Pixar.
  7. I think the chances of that are about nil unless you decide to move to the Muslim world. Ignoring your first bit, I'll have you know that most gay people I came to for advice warned me to expect violence. Almost all of them have had their lives endangered at some point because of their sexuality. That's hardly something limited to the "Muslim world", especially with the number of nutjobs blinded by what some angry man in a pulpit orders them to do.
  8. So what exactly are you advocating? Violence? Hardly. Your side has been constantly suggesting that there's been a "war on religion", even though the only aggression has been religion against everyone else. Well, guess what? We're no longer going to be nice about it, let you go about your business saying "We believe what we believe, and leave it at that." We have left it at that, but it's been the church that has attempted to force their beliefs on everyone else, going as far as raping, killing, murdering, and convincing others to commit suicide. Next time someone uses God as a justification to do anything, I will not let it slide. I will let them know with my voice that what they're doing is wrong because what they believe is wrong. We will not use spears, knives, or flames like the religious do. Our weapons will be reason, facts, and an inability to allow unspeakable acts to continue unpunished. Our actions will not be with that of violence, but of common sense. Though of course, if my life is ever endangered by religion, I may have no choice but to stoop to their level and truly fight fire with fire.
  9. Ever thought that there's no way to disprove evolution because evolution is real (even the rational members of the church agree), and arguing otherwise is only something someone completely out of their minds would do?
  10. Wait wut? Dude do you or any of your family take the yearly flu-vaccines? You do know what you just said right? Not like a typo or something? I shall refer you to one of my favourite quotes from Dara O'Brien: http://www.youtube.c...3R6vjIoE#t=143s You guys are pretty much proof of the indoctrination if you believe that evolution is a proven fact. Who is believing what they're told now? @6264: I'm not saying we should be preaching creationism in school. I'm saying we present things as facts that are anything but as evidenced in this here thread. OK, then, where are your facts? We have ours derived from centuries of study and countless research from cultures all over the world. You have yours from a musty old book thousands of years old that's more of a collection of Aseop's Fables, stories to keep the wee ones in line and following the marching orders of their parents, the church. Our older ideas and theories have been disproven, but from those ashes came facts and evidence more concrete than the last. We're open to change and any sort of new discovery. Your "good book" has never been properly updated when facts came around that disproved its theories.
  11. Evolution is anything but a fact. Really, if anyone is indoctrinating the youth these days it's the liberal bias in classrooms and certainly in universities. All the while talking about tolerance and fairness. "Indoctrinating the youth"? Right, because WE'RE the ones pushing Creationist textbooks in classrooms.
  12. Yeah, Rolling Stone is so horrible it isn't even worth using as toilet paper. Still, it can be used to start your chimney starter for your grill. Funny, because based on that National Review post you shared, I could say the same thing about that garbage.
  13. Shouldn't the proper response be to end harassment? you want to fight harassment with more harassment? We've tried ending harrassment before, but that just leads the bigots to get worse and worse. It's time to fight fire with fire, to show those evil, heartless bastards that we won't tolerate their hateful attitude anymore. I am tired of the good individuals being punched to the ground by these inhuman monsters who wield religion as a weapon of pure hate. These suicides, this bullying, this horrid abuse of life sponsored by "family" and religious groups... it will stop and it will stop NOW.
  14. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/one-towns-war-on-gay-teens-20120202?link=mostpopular1 Not gonna lie; this article had me in tears by the end of it. Probably the saddest article I've ever read.
  15. The Weather Man. It was an intense drama, filled with dark comedy, incredibly depressing moments, and one hell of a performance from Nicolas Cage. He may not be perfect in some (hell, most) movies he's been in, but he was born to take on some roles.
  16. Probably because they're not very good at defending themselves.
  17. Finally beat The Darkness II proper after I temporarily lowered the difficulty at the end. It's a fun shooter with a great visual style, but it's nowhere near as groundbreaking or as touching as the original Darkness.
  18. I like LMFAO's music videos because of how dumb and ridiculous they are. Not too big of a fan of the songs, but I can appreciate incredibly dumb music videos.
  19. You know your game is a smash success when images like this featuring your characters start popping up... (Bastion, in case you don't recognize it from the cog/white hair combo)
  20. http://youtu.be/sgm06iMF4uE Even Fox News' own figureheads like Bill O'Reilly are on the right side of things once in a while. Howard Stern weighs in, too.
  21. "Marriage (or wedlock) is a social union or legal contract between people that creates kinship." Not sure how homosexual relationships redefine that.
