It was before October. I think I could be forgiven for not expecting the guy to shell out the kind of money that is needed to get certified.

Well it's true that unless gay characters are all ding-a-ling-a-liiing~ then they tend not to be detectable at all, but that isn't really something inevitable. I'm not aware of any game that pulls off a non-player "straight gay" (i.e. a gay character who doesn't really act in a stereotypical gay fashion). It's possible there's something out there I just haven't played, but you never really have a normal party member who just happens to be fighting to save his boyfriend or anything like that. You could say "Well why bother if it's barely going to be touched on?" but I would say "Would it really be so bad if it's like that?" Of course, I imagine the business standpoint is probably "Conservative America dislikes gays, so there's no reason to risk losing money when we're not making a statement". I don't really give a whole lot of credit to player characters who have the option to be gay, since that's more about player choice than open-mindedness.

Oh really? It has a certificate now? When was this?

I notice that for the most part this thread has been about black people, which is fine, but do any more hispanic characters come to mind? How about jewish or gay characters? Asians? Of course, I mean asians in western games when I say that.

Pheer, I'm having trouble getting Windows 7 64-bit to recognize the dualshock, even with MotionInJoy. Any tips?

Can't say I'm familiar with it. Maybe I'll check it out sometime.

Hey Tali, I'm a fucking liar. Is it possible to show when a forum post is made from a mobile device? I tend to make shorter posts when I'm on my device and I don't want to seem dismissive when I reply to people.

Maybe he's too young.

I liked the characters, but I guess that's just something we'll have to disagree on. And the beginning of Up was certainly brilliant, you'll get no argument from me. I'm not trying to tear down Pixar, I'm just saying that a lot of their movies---and I did mention that Toy Story 3 was an exception to this---use standard genre conventions in their storytelling.

AFI 100 Years of movies - How many have you seen

Oscars are bullshit anyway. I made up my mind about that establishment after they snubbed both Dark Knight and Wall-e for best picture nominations. -
Yes, I like the Lonely Island. Their first album is one of my most played. I hope the new one has "To the ground" on it. Or whatever that song was called. The digital version had a bunch of videos so I'm hoping to get the video for that one, as it's one of my favorites.

There was comedy in that game?

In other news, oxygen is good.

Well I say fuck that. If I want to use a pad, like you have an option in your game to do, I should be able to use a fucking pad. I take it this means you tried and had a problem. What did you try to use? What happened?

I don't know that I would say Cole is a racist character, just not a very deep one. Gears is a very macho game, and Cole is just as macho as all the other characters. He's not really unintelligent or unlikeable, unless you don't like loud, boisterous types in general. Gears 3 is going to have another black character who is supposedly more subdued and down to earth than Cole, so it will be interesting to see that.

I'm not sure whether to use a keyboard and mouse for the sake of aiming or use a gamepad for the sake of ease of movement/ability access.

Actually a friend of mine won't shut the fuck up about how I need to play Company of Heroes, even though I keep telling him that I don't like RTS games and probably never will because they're just not fun to me. Sorry, but I don't like their gameplay style. -
I really didn't like Megamind, or Despicable Me. I thought Megamind "borrowed" waaaaayyyyy too much material from other sources, and that from the minute the movie begins you know how it's going to play out. It just wasn't very fun. The animation was amazing though. My top animated films this year are still Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon. Haven't decided which I like better, but I'm leaning towards TS3. Really, just because they have 15 years worth of my emotions to play with, and they do it ever-so painfully. I'll give you Megamind, but why didn't you like Despicable Me? When it comes to family movies, not liking one because you know how it goes seems like it might be a tad unfair. There's only so much you can do with these movies and still keep them family friendly. There has to be a happy ending, character development has to be age appropriate for young viewers, and only the ballsiest of family films will kill anybody besides the villain. Even most Pixar films, with some exceptions, don't have a whole lot of surprises. The fun isn't really in being surprised most of the time with movies below a PG-13 rating. It isn't ALWAYS the case, but by and large that's just how it is (unless you go back to old movies, when the G rating meant something totally different). Did you feel the movie just had no charm or likeable characters? I would personally disagree on that point, but I could understand it. And I did love How to Train Your Dragon. I thought it was better than even one or two of Pixar's movies, but it's another case of knowing how it will play out. Boy finds dragon, boy befriends dragon, his dragon hating dad finds out, boy and dragon save the day, dad becomes more open minded, happy ending. It's been done a million times, but that doesn't stop it from being one of my favorite movies this year. Toy Story 3 was incredible, of course. And that one actually couldn't be predicted so easily. But Toy Story 3 tends to be the exception, not the rule.
