  1. While competition is always good for everyone, I can't help but be glad to see Rock Band and Harmonix win this one. Their product is a whole lot superior and their heart is obviously into it. Though it came as a surprise that Activision isn't doing all they can to make Guitar Hero into a money maker again. But I guess that would require some creativity, and they seem to be firmly opposed to that. I wonder if anyone in the company will realize that the genre isn't dead, and that they simply drove the series into the ground themselves. And considering how they keep opening up new studios to work on COD, I can see that series going down the in the coming years as well. Of course... COD just might be the exception. The one that keeps selling
  2. Figured out why I got the old layout earlier. I just went back and it was the new one. But sometimes when I go to "www.kotaku.com", once the site actually loads, the address says "ca.kotaku.com". So I went there and sure enough the old layout appeared.

  4. Uh, what? Just went on Kotaku and the old layout loaded for the main page. But when I click an article, it loads it in the new layout. I even had the notification that I had 11 replies (only one of them was new, though).
  5. Oh, stupid me. Yeah I've been reading that wiki for some useful info. Can't believe I didn't think to look it up myself
  6. Must go out to brave the snowstorm if I want to get Dead Space 2. Funny, I'm nowhere near as hesitant when I need to get to class.... yet even though it is obvious that Dead Space 2 > class, I'm still hesitant.

      Dead Space 2 > hesitance.

      Fixed it for ya.

The quest has been succesful! For defeating the snowstorm (and parting with some cash) I have been rewarded with Dead Space 2 and a PlayStation Move bundle! Hurray!

Now which one to try first...

  7. Hehe, yeah the bosses' souls were the reason I restarted the game the first time. I had exchanged both Phalanx and Tower Knight's souls for currency souls to level up and then found out I should've kept them to forge weapons. Now I'm keeping them and will make sure I use them right. As for the scraping spear, does it have any special properties? I was actually thinking on investing in the Evacuate miracle in case I ever get invaded. Though I think it was pretty expensive.
  8. Nah, I get it. I figured that was how you did it, but I asked just in case there was a simpler way I didn't know of. I'm in 3-1 right now. That place is creepy as hell! And I just got killed by a freaking mindflayer so now I have to go find my blood stain... oh joy!
  9. What the hell... I could swear I had replied but now it appears to be gone... Not the first time this happened in the last few days either... Weird. Anyway, as I had previously posted, so far I'm focusing my character on magic strength, so the Crescent Falchion you mentioned sounds like it could be useful, so thanks. Also, now that you mention coop, I've been wondering about something while reading this thread. How do you coop with someone specific? I was under the impression that it was basically random since there's no way to communicate with other players directly.
  10. I restarted this for the third time tonight. Every single time I defeat the first demon (Phalanx), then Tower Knight and then just fail miserably at whatever other level I attempt. Which makes me promptly stop. I don't think I've ever played the game for more than a few days to a week before shelving it again every time. This time, though. It's happening! I am kicking that game's ass! I definitely feel more prepared. Without reading anything spoilerish or too detailed ( that would be cheating) I looked around for some advice for beginners. So my new character is a Royalty, which seems to be unanimously accepted as the most beginner-friendly class ( and holy shit is Soul Arrow useful so far O_O...). When I stopped playing about 20mins ago, I had just defeated Tower Knight. So far things are going pretty smoothly, but I know the first two levels pretty much by heart at this point since they're basically the only ones I really played. I attempted some others, but I never finished any of them ( except for the one with the Armored Spider boss, but that was on my first game back when the game first came out, in like October 2009). Anyway, perhaps some of you guys have some advice? In what order would you suggest I tackle the early levels? In this case, after having completed 1-1 and 1-2, where to next? What kind of weapon/shield should I go for? I've often read that finding something that fits your playstyle is most important, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to know what exactly to look for and where. Right now my equipment is the wizard's robes the Royalty starts with along with a +2 scimitar and +1 buckler. I'm pretty sure the buckler's gonna have to go soon, but I haven't come across anything to replace it with so far.
  11. Rock Band 3 I know how that sounds, but when I beat the last Road Challenge a few days ago, I got a message that said like "Congratulations on beating Rock band 3" and then the credits rolled. So there. What's weird is that the Road Challenges felt more like kind of a side thing. They're tour that your band goes on, from local venues to eventually worldwide ones. But they're found under the Quick Play menu. The "proper" Career mode, on the other hand, is basically just a list of challenges for every instruments, difficulties and game modes. They almost feel like achievements/trophies at times. Like "Hit x% of notes in x amount of songs" or "5 Star x amount of songs on Hard Difficulty". Though by playing them you receive unlockables and fans. Feels sort of backwards, if you ask me...
  12. Watched Paranormal Activity 2 the other night. People who enjoyed the first one should enjoy this one as well. It's a bit unoriginal in the sense that it pretty much constantly tries to emulate and one up the first one, but at least it does it well. Plus, I thought the ending was pretty good. It ties the movie nicely with the first one.
  13. Ah you're right... The buttons to show all comments or only featured ones still aren't there. Nevermind, then. I was in TAY when I noticed them and thought it applied to everything, but I guess not... Wonder why they would have them everywhere but in speakup?
  14. To update on my previous post, now that the proper version is live, I'm seeing the gray, non-star comments like before. So I guess there's that... Still not sure if I'm going to stick with it yet. I usually don't have difficulties adapting to change, so I'll probably get used to it, but meh... Just so damn ugly.
  15. I haven't tried the new stuff when I played yesterday. Though I'm curious about the new game mode. It's called Chest Capture. From what I understand, it's basically CTF. One weird thing I noticed though is when you go into the settings to set what DLC you want to play with (for matchmaking, I assume), you can turn on and off both Animus Project Update 1.0 and 2.0, but you can't have them both on at the same time Plus, there's a grayed out option for Animus Project Update 3.0, so I guess that's on the way. Anyway, if someone can convince D-K to give it another shot, and if we can find a few more people, it could be cool. I know there's a thread about the game on the other forum, so that might be a good place to recruit people.
  16. I have something like 60 DVDs. Only about a dozen blurays, though, so I'll list those I have. Total Recall The Running Man StarGate Sweeney Todd Sleepy Hollow V For Vendetta Pan's Labyrinth Dawn of The Dead (the 2002 Zack Snyder remake) Batman Begins The Dark Knight Dr. Strangelove and unfortunately Near Dark (Got it for 10 bucks at Best Buy because I had heard it was good and had wanted to see it for a while. Turned out to be a huge mistake since it was a fucking piece of shit) I haven't bought any in a while, but I've been meaning to grab A Clockwork Orange and 2001. Also very likely going to grab Inception since Nolan is among my favorite directors. I also need to get Watchmen. And a ton more... I couldn't possibly list all my DVDs, though. It's mostly sci-fi, horror and action. Some Star Trek. The Terminator, Alien and Predator series. All three seasons of Arrested Development, Firefly and a few seasons of South Park. Evil Dead, X-Men 1&2, some Tarantino. The usual.
  17. So, uh, aren't you guys getting a bit sick of Uncharted 2 all the time? We need to get some stabbing going on again! Since the last time we played, there's been a new free Animus Update (2.0) so new maps , etc... You can get it from the PS Store. And I just went to play just now and found out there's been a patch (1.04) so perhaps the network issues have been fixed. So come on guys, let's get murderin'!
  18. Oh, so then I guess I was seeing comments made by non-stars. But they were all among the hidden replies. Every thread I see is either started by a star or a promoted comment, but I can't see any non-star unpromoted threads, so I'm wondering if the promoted ones are only there because they were promoted on the old site and once the new one goes live it'll be stars only... I still can't get over how horrible that new site is. My dislike for kotaku in general has only grown over the past year, but this just might be what makes me stop visiting altogether :/
  19. So wait, they've re-banned you recently Dean? Man, they really have it in for you... You'd think you did something horrible to them, like running over Crecente's dog with a car or something Anyway, as for the speakup link you posted, I have a star and all I'm seeing are posts from other stars and promoted comments. Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but I don't see any way to "show all comments" or anything of the sort. Though when clicking to see replies, some commenters have an empty star (just an outline, it's not colored) next to their avatars, and if I mouse over it (or a regular star), it says "toggle star" The hell is that?
  20. Started smoking during my last high school year but quit like 3 or 4 years ago. I quit both weed and cigarettes at the same time. Weed, I had been cutting back a lot for some time in hopes of eventually stopping, but I quit cigarettes cold turkey. Considering the amount of people around me who keep trying to quit with various kinds of pills, patches, etc.. and still fail, I'm not sure what should amaze me most: how easy it was for me, or how hard it seems to be for them. Maybe I just have strong willpower. B) Nowadays the mere smell of cigarettes digusts me, so I don't really see myself relapsing. Oh, and even when I was a smoker, I supported the ban. Smoking is a personal choice, not something people should have to endure because of others.
  21. I'd love to be excited about this, but I have yet to even scratch the surface of Demon's Souls... I finished the first level and defeated, I think, 2 bosses beyond that. Worst part is... I've had the game since launch :'( I spent a week getting my ass kicked when it came out but then Uncharted 2 came out so I put it aside and just never got back to it. Every single time there's an "all-white" event, I tell myself I should take the opportunity to get back into it while it's easier, but I never do Though lately I've taken the initiative of going through my PS3 backlog. I've taken out all my unplayed and unfinished games and put them on a special shelf right above my monitor, so they're always there just above me and they bring me much shame. Demon's Souls is among them, though, so there is yet hope! Other notable titles on said shelf include Disgaea 3, Valkyria Chronicles, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Eternal Sonata.
  22. Well if you don't like Star Wars then it's no surprise you didn't enjoy the story of a Star Wars game... But regardless, I'm not saying it was like, better than Empire Strikes Back or anything. It was just enjoyable. I had more fun watching this story unfold than the mess they call the prequels. Mind you, I'm not the kind of crazy fanboy who goes around reading every expanded universe novel he can find, so I have no idea if this contradicts stuff that was already established or not, but I enjoyed seeing how the Rebel Alliance came to be.
  23. Completed God of War II a few days ago. And I just completed the first Force Unleashed about an hour ago. It's... just... man... what a fucking shitty game. It probably looked awesome on paper, but every single important aspect was executed poorly. It's like whoever was in charge never made sure that the various aspects of the game worked well together. Level design was atrocious. I stopped counting how often I fell to my death because either a] it wasn't clear that the ground ahead wasn't meant to be walked on and I just started sliding towards a cliff, b] I just fell while fighting because there were no invisible walls in a very small area where I was fighting strong enemies or c] I was just swarmed by enemies and when hit, the character's animation caused me to fall off a cliff. There was some fun to be had with the combat system, but it was nowhere near as polished as other games (like God of War, for example). Plus, it really, really sucked how the enemies didn't get sliced up when hit by a lightsaber. I mean, what the hell?! At least the story was pretty good. That's the only aspect I really can't complain about.
  24. I've seen people saying it changed yesterday, but I'm still seeing the old version on my pc.
  25. Yeah, I enjoyed the puzzle levels in the demo a lot, but the ones in the demo are so short that it almost feels like their sole purpose is to come between the "interactive novel" type moments, like they're only there to mix things up, almost like an afterthought. Hopefully it doesn't feel like way further into the game.
